Chapter 24: The Fujino 7

When I reach the front doorstep of the Todoroki household, I am still smiling from the car ride. Mitsuki was very nice and slipped me her business card before I left so I could call her if her "shithead of a son" bothered me too much or if I just wanted to talk. She seemed pretty excited to have another girl to talk to "around the house." I guess she thinks I'll be over all the time.

Yeah, right. Like Bakugo would allow that.

I knock on the door, bracing myself. For what? I don't know. Maybe the door will catch on fire or fly off the hinges.

Instead, it opens calmly. I stand face to face with a woman with white hair and red highlights. I recognize her as Todoroki's sister who I saw back in the restaurant.

"Hello," She speaks in a quiet, reserved voice, "I knew my father was expecting a UA student today, but I wasn't sure when."

She steps back to welcome me into the large house. The entrance hallway has dark wood floors and muted green walls. I walk in, taking off my rain boots and putting my umbrella in the rack next to the door.

"I'm Fuyumi by the way. His office is just down this way," she says, leading me down the hallway. She stops just in front of a door and lowers her voice, "Don't let my father get to you. If you need some help just give a shout. I'll be right out here."

Thanks for that vote of confidence, Fuyumi. I nod and let her knock on the door. She opens the door and addresses the man on the other side, hands clasped behind her back.

"Father, she's here," she says evenly.

"Let her in," his deep voice says.

Fuyumi turns around and places her hand on my shoulder. "Good luck," she whispers, barely moving her mouth, as she walks out. I enter the large home office and she closes the door behind me.

There is dark wood paneling on the walls, giving the room the cold, dark feeling of a cave, despite the stifling temperature. Endeavor stands from his desk at the far end of the empty room. There's an area rug in the middle of the room, looking shockingly out of place and as if he was trying to fill space.

Why have such a large room for just a desk?

I walk forward into the suffocatingly hot room. "Koto Yamada," he booms. I feel a chill go through my body as his cold eyes examine me. I shrug off my backpack and reach to unzip it when he cuts off my actions. "I am aware that your quirk allows you to communicate, so use it when you address me. Writing is impractical and a waste of time. Understand?"

I quickly return my bag to my shoulder and fold my shaking hands together in front of me. "Yes, sir," I illuse my mother's voice just in front of me, as if it were coming out of my own mouth.

"Good. Now this meeting was supposed to discuss your quirk and its abilities, but your loudmouth uncle postponed this for so long, I decided to do some digging of my own."

My body tenses at his words. "Let's just say I understand the conditions for your sudden move to Japan..." he says with a small smirk at my pained expression. "Onto more important business, you are in the same class as my Shoto, correct?"

"Yes, sir," I reply, a bit apprehensive of where this is going. He wouldn't hesitate to force Todoroki into a quirk marriage. I can only hope that's not why I'm here.

"The other day, I paid a visit to your uncle at his party. Of course, I brought Shoto with me. However, he ran off on his own and disappeared for the majority of the night. I did not wish to stay for four hours, but I wasn't about to leave without my successor."

He doesn't even call him his son. He calls him his successor. I didn't know just how bad this was.

"When he appeared out of nowhere, hours later, I figured he had found you and spent that whole time with you. Now I'm not here to pry about what happened, but just know I do not approve of a relationship between you two. My Shoto is training for bigger and better things."

Even though there's nothing going on there, it still hurts to hear he would never approve of us. Not that Todoroki would listen to him anyway. Ugh, why is everything surrounding that boy so complicated?

"Having said that, I still think a friendship between you two could be beneficial to the both of us."

That spurs me into speaking up. "What exactly do you mean by that?" I illuse.

"Well, I would be willing to compensate you for your time if you could deliver me updates on his training in school and his relationships with the other students. I need to know who to be wary of and if those incompetent teachers are properly doing their jobs."

I feel myself get more angry the longer he speaks. Reign it in and think through what to say before you say it.

I take a deep breath and illuse in a voice that is much more confident than I feel, yet still soft, "You know, it's funny that you think I would do that."

He blinks, his eyebrows furrowing. "Excuse me?" He spats out.

Seeing my words getting under his skin makes me more confident. I move my hands to my sides, not shaking anymore. "If you had a normal relationship with your family, this would be something you could ask him yourself. Whatever it is that's going on here, 'I'm not here to pry, but...'" I make air quotes, mocking his own words, "I find it rather odd that someone who is so concerned with his son can't make the time to actually know him."

Endeavor pulls himself up to his fullest height, looming over me. "Now, listen here-"

"No, you listen here," I snap with a judgemental glare, still using the falsely sweet voice my mother would use when she was getting frustrated with me, but didn't want me to get too upset.

Wow I must have been a terrible child if I'm using the same technique on Endeavor of all people.

"Todoroki is going to become a hero. Sure, your paths may be headed to the same place, but you cannot force him to follow in your footsteps. His will is too strong to listen to whatever 'advice' you have to give him. He may be strong, but you either don't see that he's suffering, or you just don't care. Frankly, you are a despicable human. So, if you want to know what's going on with your son, why don't you try to be a father for once and see how that goes for ya, huh?"

With that, I turn on my heels, ignoring his deadly blue glare on my back, and walk out the door. The moment I exit, slamming the door behind me, Fuyumi is at my side.

I send her a confident smirk as she smiles at me with tears welling in her eyes. "Thank you," her voice cracks as she chokes out the words and pulls me into a hug.

I stumble, not expecting this show of affection, but return the gesture nonetheless.

"You should get home before the storm gets bad," she mumbles, pulling away quickly and righting herself. I nod as she accompanies me to the door.

"Fuyumi, what's happening out he-" Todoroki's voice dies in his throat as he sees me standing at his front door, smiling with his older sister as I put on my rain boots. I look over to see him standing in one of the doorways, wearing a white v-neck with an open blue shirt over it. I have to stop myself from staring.

"Yamada?" He asks, his eyebrows shooting up in the mildest surprise.

"Bye!" I illuse chirpily before grabbing my umbrella, waving to the two and rushing out.

"Thank you again!" Fuyumi calls out from behind me as I dart down the path. I open my umbrella and head home, a stupid grin on my face.

I really just did that. Not exactly wise to make enemies with the number two hero, but he needed to hear it.

I board my train with my headphones in, feeling some of the weight lifting off my chest.

Anger directed in the right places can really make a difference. And now, all that's left is a stress free night with Ochaco. Speaking of...

I pull out my phone and send her a text, letting her know I'm on my way home.

Me: Hayy!! On the train heading home! Eta 15

After a minute of looking out the window, my phone buzzes with a response.

Ochaco💕: Kk! Reina's brothers are battling robots at hers tonight u in?

Me: Ya ofc!

Ochaco 💕: Coolio! Come over whenever

Me: So ur already there?

Ochaco 💕: Yee

Me: U knew I would cave that easily?

Ochaco 💕: Yee

I put my phone down for a second to scoff at her response.

Something to know about Reina is that she has a pretty large family. She had six siblings, all in the same house. You would think it gets hectic, but their house is actually freakishly orderly. Her four older siblings, three sisters and one brother, try to keep the house in line while her younger siblings, twin boys, try to wreak havoc. Her parents are rarely around, but they are very sweet people, who just don't have enough time in the day.

Mieko Fujino: Chief Marketing Manager of Kikuchi Enterprises and mother of the Fujino 7 (as they are so affectionately dubbed by her childhood friends who she still makes time to see). Becomes very strict when she is stressed, but has a kind heart. Quirk: Preemptive Speech. She can anticipate what someone will say moments before they say it. This saves much time and makes her an effective manager.

Daichi Fujino: Head of Engineering at Kikuchi Enterprises and father of the Fujino 7. A welcoming man who would willingly adopt every homeless child he comes across, but is often wrapped up in work and knows he couldn't make time for them. Formidable staring contest opponent. Convinced the CEOs of the company to make generous donations to the children's shelters around Japan. Quirk: Mental Blueprinting. He can create holographic blueprints of his concepts that other people can see and he alone can interact with. The effect is gone when he blinks.

Ruri Fujino(26): Oldest child and daughter of the Fujino 7. Quirk therapist for young children. Quiet and caring. Has a very dry sense of humor. Often appears flighty, but it's just due to the distractions caused by her quirk. Stays at home to take care of her younger siblings and keep the house in order. Quirk: Foresight. She can anticipate movements just moments before they happen. In high motion environments, such as a crowded street (or a busy household) she becomes easily distracted from all the sensory input.

Sayuri Fujino(24): Second oldest child and daughter of the Fujino 7. Psychologist. Living in the crowded Fujino household until she can make enough money to move into the city to be closer to work. Desperately wants to fall in love and start her own family, but is often too forward. Generally perceived as desperate (because she sorta is) but it's mostly because her quirk causes her to dig too far into her partner's psyches. Quirk: Emotional Aura. She can see people's emotions as a visible aura around a person. She has tried to explain what the auras look like, but it is complicated to understand. The closest comparison she could get was like the distorted air above a toaster when it gets hot.

Yasu Fujino(20): Third oldest child and oldest son of the Fujino 7. Musician. Decided against going to college, instead performs around the city, waiting for his big break. Takes care of the house during the day while songwriting. Loves gardening, but would never admit to it. Claims he is bored and somebody has to do the yardwork, but genuinely feels at peace and gets some of his best ideas in the garden. Quirk: Mental Blueprinting. Same as his father, though he never uses it. When his siblings were younger, he would use it to make mobiles, unicorns, and other various things to entertain them.

Kayda Fujino(18): Fourth oldest child and third oldest daughter of the Fujino 7. Mechanical engineering major and her father's apprentice at Kikuchi Enterprises. Tends to keep to herself as she has practically no free time outside of classes and her apprenticeship. Has always been a bit of a loner. Doesn't really enjoy spending time with people, but puts up with her family. Doesn't really want to follow in her father's footsteps, but she isn't confident enough in her artwork to pursue that. Gets annoyed and snippy with her siblings easily. Quirk: Internal Blueprinting. She can mentally visualize a blueprint with extensive detail, but can't project it. She has become an amazing artist to be able to communicate her ideas.

Reina Fujino(15): Fifth oldest child and forth oldest daughter of the Fujino 7. High school student and one of Koto's best friends. Very outgoing, bubbly, and cheerful. Focuses greatly on her studies, but is always welcome to a fun distraction. Is obsessed with rollercoasters and every type of thrill ride. Loves visiting other countries and meeting with the locals. Has a natural talent for understanding a person's personality after only just meeting them and will tone her personality down to not scare them away if necessary. Quirk: Enigmapath. She can understand any language whether real, made up, or secret code. Uses it to communicate with Koto and serves as the family translator when they go on trips to other countries. Plans to become a professional translator or a decoder for the government.

Uka Fujino(12): Sixth oldest child and second oldest son of the Fujino 7, supposedly (their parents refuse to say which twin was born first, so they can't use the "but I was born first" argument, but everyone assumes Uka is older because he acts more mature). Very intelligent, quiet, and calculating. Generally lost in his own thoughts and is always scheming something with his twin brother. Loves building robots and using them in combat. Quirk: Blueprint Telepathy. He can mentally visualize a highly detailed blueprint and also share it with others by broadcasting it into their mind. He uses this method to wordlessly communicate with his twin.

Yuta Fujino(12): Seventh oldest child and third oldest son of the Fujino 7, supposedly (for the reasons mentioned before). Loud and cocky, but extremely intelligent. Occasionally clumsy, but this is only when he is hyper focused on something else. The biggest troublemaker in the household, as he is generally the one to execute the schemes him and his brother concoct. Has developed the talent to easily talk himself out of anything. Quirk: Preemptive Speech. Same as his mother's. He mainly uses his quirk to more easily win arguments, presenting a counterargument before the other person can even speak.

The Fujino house, however, is one of the most orderly households I've ever been in. One might think the mischief the twins get up to creates a sense of insanity in the household, but their pranks are few and far between. That being said, they're very well thought out and creative, but the boys generally play them outside, so there isn't too much of a cleanup.

Speaking of cleanup, their parents put in money to build a barn behind their house so they can do experiments and build their robots away from the house. A literal barn. It is made out of reinforced steel, so they can go wild with their robot fights. They have dubbed this building "The Garage." There is a sign over the door and everything. One side is designated to designing and building the robots, while the other has been turned into a fighting ring.

A while ago, they tried opening up The Garage to the public, collecting money from people to spectate their robot battles, but Ruri quickly shut down their whole operation and made them give the money back. Yuta claimed they were trying to repay their parents for the barn, but she wouldn't listen to his reasoning, knowing it was dangerous.

When Ochaco and Reina were little, Ochaco's parents often had to work overtime to pay the bills. Of course, Reina's parents, living right down the street, offered to take care of her (or for the older kids to take care of her) after school. With all the time she ended up spending at their house, it was like she was permanently adopted. Especially by the other kids. To them, she's their honorary sibling.

I step off the train, going home to change before tonight's robot battle. I'm excited to see what the twins have prepared for tonight. Last time, Uka's won because his had a hidden compartment with glue to get Yuta's robot stuck.

These two are heading straight for UA's support program.

I change as quickly as possible into leggings and an oversized green hoodie to hide the bandages, then head back out, shooting Mic a text about where I'm going. He texts back almost immediately, telling me to be safe. He doesn't exactly trust the twins from the stories I've told him.

I board the train only to get off at the first stop, just in the outskirts of Musutafu where Reina and Ochaco live. It's just barely too far to walk. I approach the large grey house excitedly.

"Hello, Koto!" Ruri greets, opening the door as I walk up the front steps. Her face is covered in a thin layer of soot. She must have had a session with that one kid who has that smoke screen quirk she told us about last time I was here. "I just got home. Everyone else is in The Garage. I'll be out soon!" She says, heading back into the house and up the stairs, probably hoping to get a quick shower.

I make my way through the pristine house. The white walls have minimal decoration, only a few silver hangings. The pale wood floors extend between the open rooms, making the whole place seem brighter. I walk through the back door into the well manicured lawn and through the rain towards The Garage. The colorful building is already bustling with rowdy conversation and laughter.

------Author's Note------

Hey guys!

I know this chapter was a bit different, but I wanted to properly introduce my other OCs. I've been wanting to introduce them for a while now. They're definitely some of my favorite creations and writing their scenes remind me of my own family.

Comment which member of the Fujino household you feel you most resemble. I'll go first! I definitely feel like Kayda! Most of the time, I'm pretty high strung and busy, but I really appreciate my time with loved ones.

I'm so excited for you guys to read what I have in the works for the Fujino 7!

Be sure to comment and vote if you enjoyed! I appreciate all of the support you guys show me! It always makes my day ❤️
