It's an awkward downhill slope from there.
No one seems to do or say anything for quite a (very awkward) while. Bebe refuses to look at either of us as she tries recollects herself and Craig just watches her as I look between them.
This is awkward.
Craig finally steps toward Bebe and raises his hand as an offer to her, but takes it back as he rethinks his "comforting" actions.
Bebe pushes her hair over her ear again and looks up at Craig. I can see the way they split off from the rest of the world. Spinning in their own galaxy far away from me and the dining room.
Bebe's eyes are red and some emotion passes over Craig's face quickly before he sighs and looks down.
"Bebe," he starts quietly, "I'm not sure what we should do from here."
Bebe doesn't say anything, but she nods ever so slightly along with him. She sniffles too, while running her fingers through the bottom of her hair, combing it silently.
Craig looks pained as he watches her do so, before saying, "But I don't think us being together is something that we should continue."
"What?" Bebe and I say at the same time, "Craig, I still want to be with you," Bebe says, clambering up to her feet and taking a step toward him.
Craig shakes his head, "We shouldn't be together if you're in love with someone else. If I were in love with someone else, I wouldn't want to drag you along with me in some version of pining hell. You don't deserve that, no one deserves that."
Bebe smiles as tears drip from her eyes once more, "You're a good guy, Craig."
