I close my work locker and wave to no one on my way out. I'm always the last to leave.
I grab my thermos and jacket and start my walk home.
I get outside and find out that it's snowing. Great.
I still don't like it when it snows.
I continue walking through the cold until my cheeks, ears, and toes feel numb.
I ran out of coffee a while back, so I've just been toting around an empty thermos.
I start walking over the bridge where my favorite spot is and stop at the middle, looking over the railing that's slightly up above my waist, and the ledge leading down the the trail and just past the fence where the creek water splashes.
I sigh as I stare at the scene, cold winds battering my side and blowing my hair toward one side.
I cross my arms and lean on the railing, staring down at the graffiti works on the ledge.
I watch my breath circulate around, before moving up and away.
It reminds me of when Craig or Kenny would smoke around me.
I smile slightly at the thought.
Then, I hear a beep, and I turn around to look at the road behind me, where an old beaten up pick up truck sits next to me.
The passenger window rolls down slightly, and slowly like a hand operated window, to show Kenny, smiling at me.
"Hey," he says waving me toward him.
I wave slightly before walking to the car and opening the door and hopping inside.
I close the door and roll up the passenger window, which was hand operated.
"Whatcha doing out in the cold by yourself? You look freezing."
I shrug, quickly realizing that Kenny's car isn't much warmer than the outside.
I wrap my arms around myself and pull my feet onto his seat.
"You going home?" He asks, to which I nod.
He smiles slightly as some song I don't recognize comes through the speakers as he clicks on the radio.
I guess sitting in silence with me is uncomfortable for him.
Maybe that bothers more people than I think it does.
Kenny stops the car outside my house, I turn to him and nod as a thanks, to which he smiles.
As I open the car door he calls, "Wait. Tweek?"
I stop and turn my head back to him, "If you need anything, I'm here. Just call me. Okay?"
I nod and he smiles again, "Bye."
I wave and watch from the yard as he drives away.
