Chapter 23
Bill stood in Dumbledore's office, awaiting his reply. Dumbledore was silent for a few moments, as if contemplating what Bill had requested. "You wish to adopt Hope?" He asked after a while, his eyes were twinkling wisely as he looked at Bill.
"We do. Hope only has her siblings, and they have their godparents. Hope doesn't get as much attention as she deserves because of her siblings, and we talked to Hope about adopting her over the summer and she wanted to be adopted." Bill pleaded. It was true that Bill and Juliane loved Hope, just not in a parental way. At the beginning, both Bill and Juliane had thought of Hope as a younger sister, but over the summer she had become more of a daughter to the two. Juliane was someone that Hope could tell anything to, and Bill was like her father. He did feel a wave of protection anytime Hope was in trouble, and neither Juliane, nor Bill, would hesitate to help her in a time of need. Especially with the events of the Triwizard Tournament just last year.
"What about her godparents?" Dumbledore asked.
"Remus and Ren? They would have to share her. They don't live together, and they also don't wish to adopt her in the fear that she will get harmed during one their transformations." Bill exclaimed. He had already talked to the two about adopting Hope, and they were both okay with it. Bill stared at Dumbledore desperately.
It was surprising for Dumbledore to see Bill say as much as he was now. It was very clear that Bill cared for the girl as much as Juliane. Bill was usually the person that sat silently and listened. Only speaking until he had to, or to comfort Juliane. Now, Bill seemed to speak more. Especially when it concerned people he cared for. "I suppose. Just know that Hope is going to come of age in a few more weeks. Then, you will still legally be her guardian's, but she isn't obligated to live with you."
"I know that sir. And thank you." Bill's entire face lit up as he walked to the fireplace. "See you at the next meeting." And with that, he was gone. Dumbledore let out a chuckle, and muttered something about 'young love' between Juliane and Bill, before moving to his desk and picking up some papers. The same twinkle was still in his eyes.
Juliane sat in her bed, cradling Rebel in her arms with a soft smile on her face. The little boy stared back at her with wide eyes. He could pass as one of the Weasley's with his eyes, Juliane decided. She knew that they would have to tell him that he was adopted. It just wasn't fair for Rebel to grow up living a lie. "Hey." Bill's voice was just above a whisper as he walked behind the two and took Rebel into his arms.
"What did Dumbledore say?" Juliane asked, staring at the two. Rebel finally falling asleep, and Bill holding his son close.
"He said yes. We can adopt her." Bill whispered, going over to the crib in the corner and placing down Rebel before getting into bed.
"Really? Oh I can't wait to tell her! Nous l'adoptons finalement, et elle voulait adopter, et je ne peux pas attendre! Nous devons lui dire maintenant! Oh, ça va être tellement amusant! Et-"
"Little Anne... You're speaking in French again." Bill smiled.
"Pardon." Juliane apologized, looking down sheepishly.
"Don't stop. I like it when you speak in French."
"Oui?" Juliane giggled, crawling over to Bill.
"Oui." Bill repeated, looking into Juliane's eyes.
"J'aimerais pouvoir rentrer à la maison." Juliane muttered, rolling onto her back.
"What did you say?"
"I wish we could go home."
"We only have a few weeks left here, and then Hope goes to school, and we go back home, and set up a nursery for Rebel... Speaking of which, what are we going to do about work and home?" Bill asked as Juliane curled into his side.
"I was thinking about that whilst you were gone... I can take some time off of work and take care of Rebel? I was thinking of quitting anyways." Juliane shrugged. It was true. Ever since about the beginning of the summer, she had been contemplating quitting so she could spend more time at home. Juliane loved her job, she really did, but wanted to focus more on her home life and not so much of work.
"Is that what you really want to do?" Bill asked. It was news to him. Juliane seemed to enjoy getting up and going to work every morning. But Bill noticed, that lately, Juliane was more prone to sleeping in and spending more time in the house, and less time at the pyramids after work. "I don't want you to leave your job for this, love."
"I'm sure. I want to spend as much time at home as possible. I don't know what's going to happen during this war, and I want to spend more time at the house, rather than working." Juliane sighed.
"Nothing is going to happen to anybody in our family. I promise you that I won't allow you, or me, or Hope, or even Rebel to get hurt in any way." Bill whispered, pressing a kiss to her forehead, and then her nose, and then, finally, her lips.
"I love you. So, so much Bill." Juliane whispered.
"I love you too Juliane. Go to sleep."
"Night Bill." And with that, the two fell asleep in a blissful moment. Neither of them knew what was going to happen, but they had each other, and that was all that mattered at that moment. Family, love, and hope.
The next morning, Juliane was up before everyone else. Well, except for Rebel, but he was the reason she was awake, and preparing his breakfast. "Rebel, so much is happening." Juliane sighed. Rebel said nothing, but stared at her with his chocolate eyes wide and awake. "You'll have a sister soon. But the war is beginning." Juliane used her wand to heat up the bottle, and tested it out, before giving it to Rebel. One of his little hands, wrapped around it as he drank, and the other wrapped around Juliane's pinky finger, gripping it tightly.
"Morning." Hope yawned, entering the kitchen.
"Hey Hope." Juliane looked up with a smile, her excitement from the night before returning.
"Well if it isn't Rebel. Hi baby." Hope cooed, looking down at Rebel, who finished his bottle, and babbled away in baby talk.
"He's very chatty this morning." Juliane laughed lightly, wiping off his face.
"It's because of me. I make everyone fall to their knees and praise me." Adria said, entering the kitchen. "There's my godson." As soon as Juliane got home and told everybody, Adria was appointed as Godmother with Charlie as the Godfather. Adria and Juliane were still extremely close, and it had been a promise that the two had made whilst at Hogwarts, that for Adria's first child, Juliane and Bill would be the godparents, and then for Juliane's first child, Adria and Charlie would be the godparents. Now, Adria was pregnant, and Juliane had a son, and a soon to be daughter. That is, if Hope still wanted to be adopted. Juliane worried about Hope suddenly changing her mind about the adoption, and wanting to stay with her siblings. But it didn't seem to be the case, yet. Juliane and Bill had decided to ask her after they went to Diagon Alley later that day.
"It's never because of you Dria. It's always me." Hope said, mockingly flipping her hair over her shoulder.
"Settle down you two. We both know that it's me." Juliane grinned, shifting Rebel in her arms. The boy had still not let go of Juliane's pinky, as he looked between the girls in the kitchen.
"No way. Let me see my godson now." Adria said, taking Rebel out of Juliane's arms and carrying him out of the kitchen.
"Sleep well?" Juliane asked, sitting down on the stool, and grabbing her mug of tea.
"Eh. I know that Harmony and Harry aren't expelled, but it sure feels like it the way they're both acting."
"What do you mean?" Juliane was instantly concerned, as she stared at Hope over her mug.
"I dunno... Both of them are acting... Different. More clingy." Hope sighed. "You would think that I was never going to see them again."
"Maybe, they don't think they'll ever see you again." Juliane said.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean with everything happening with the war, they know that either they might die, or you, and they're worried." Realization crossed Hope's face, as she pondered Juliane's words. "I'm sure that's not the case though." Juliane hurried to assure the girl, even though it was probably the case.
"I hope its not. I really don't want anything to happen to both me, and the twins." Hope bit her lower lip anxiously.
"Everyone will be just fine." Juliane assured her.
"Promise?" Hope asked, looking up at Juliane with sad eyes.
"I'm sorry Hope, but I can't make a promise to you, I don't know for positive that I can keep."
