Chapter 16

Hope looked around the terrain in wonder. The hot sun beat down on on the people working there, but it was strangely cool on the sight. "We placed a special spell over this place. It keeps us cool all day." Bill whispered to Hope. There were rows of pyramids lining the sandstone paths, workers going in and out. Most of them were holding large stones that had a strange aura around them.

"Those, are the stones that may have curses in them. Those workers have put spells around them so they can't get cursed and now are going to attempt to find the curses in the blocks." Juliane explained.

"What do you do?" Hope asked.

"Bill goes around and finds magical artifacts. I do that sometimes but I mainly chip away at the blocks or enter the pyramids to find them." Juliane informed her.

"Oh. Where am I going to be staying?" Hope asked after a while.

"Ahh. Just over here. You're going to stay with Bill and I, in the apartment. We have two rooms, and share one so..."

"Alright." Hope looked excited to be there.

"Well, I hope you don't mind apparating again. We live on the edge of the camp. Near the sea." Bill said.

"I don't." They grabbed the witch and turned on the spot, disappearing. Hope walked around the apartment when they got there, whilst Juliane and Bill put her things upstairs. Seeing a door, Hope entered and gasped at the sight. Inside the room there were various pictures hung up on the wall, and what looked like artifacts. The walls were a deep purple, almost brown looking, with small designs drawn all over them. At a closer look, Hope realized they were hieroglyphics. There was a desk pushed up on the wall with a plush chair behind it. The desk was a mahogany wood with gold trim, that were also little symbols engraved into the wood. It was messy, with papers sprawled all over it, and half filled ink pots. The pictures on the wall, Hope realized, were all pictures of Juliane and Bill. Some when they were in school, and some from Gringotts. The one that sat in the middle of the frames, was the picture Hope took at the World Cup, earlier that year. The massive window behind the desk showed rocks the soft looking sand of the beach.

"So you've found my office." Juliane said from behind her, startling the girl.

"Oh! Is this your office! I'm sorry, I didn't realize-" Hope was cut off by Juliane's chuckling.

"It's alright. Just where I do most of my at home work." Juliane brushed the subject off and walked over to the desk, tidying up.

"What do those mean?" Hope asked, pointing to the symbols on the wall.

"The ones on the wall mean, 'Never loose your fire' and the ones on the desk mean, 'Work hard and have fun while doing it'. Just some little quotes I picked up on the first day here. Hand painted them myself. Took hours." Juliane explained.

"That's so cool." Hope said, moving closer and examining the gold phrases.

"You should get up to your room. Then we can head to the sites for a little while, and then we can have some dinner." Juliane suggested.

"Sure! Where is my room?" Hope looked around.

"Come on." Juliane led her up the stairs to a room. "Bill and I are across the hall if you need anything." Hope pushed open the door and gasped. The walls were a lot like the ones in Hope's office, but this time it looked like random letters and phrases, and they were also printed in gold, which stood out against the black walls. The bed had a black and gold comforter and a black bedpost with gold designs up the wood. There was a black and gold chandelier hanging from the ceiling. The dresser was golden, with black trim around the mirror.

"This is amazing Jules! How?" Hope turned to look at the girl.

"I had a lot of time on my hands when we got here... I kinda redid the entire house." Juliane shrugged. "You should see my room." Hope followed Juliane to her bedroom. It was similar to Hope's room, just with a few more clothes. The walls were still black, and gold, but there were dozens of paintings and pictures hung up around the room. Posters were plastered to the wall, and there was a single ruby jewel, about the size of Hope's fist, sitting in a glass case. She approached it carefully, and peered through the glass. "So you've found the jewel. That was the first thing I ever found at work. The boss let me keep it." Juliane said.

"It's so pretty." Hope breathed.

"It is."

"But-" Hope was cut off by Bill calling from downstairs.

"Juliane! Hope! It's time to head out to the pyramids, when the workers aren't there!"

"Alright! Alright! We're coming!" Juliane called back down.

"Hurry up! We need to get there before the sun sets!" Bill yelled.

"Oh, now he wants to get a move on. When it's just me and him, no! But as soon as guests come over, Boom!" Juliane made sure to make her voice louder. "Let's go do this! Let's go do that! Well guess what Bill? I never liked the painting of the giraffe you brought home! That's why I never put it up! And I didn't accidentally light the kitchen on fire! It was on purpose!"
