Taylor's POV

I woke with a start this morning, realizing that the alarm I had set hadn't gone off, and I had woken up a half hour late. I sat in my bed, confused for a moment, until I heard snickering coming from outside my door. I immediately jumped out of bed and quickly opened my bedroom door, only to see the backs of two young boys' heads running away. I sighed and re-entered my room. I know what my parents are doing is amazing and selfless, but I hated sharing my house with 12 other kids!

I should probably explain, my name is Taylor York, and I just recently turned 17 and graduated from high school. Ever since I can remember, my house has been full of kids, orphans actually. To put it mildly, my family is wealthy, but they're also extremely kind. A prime example is my parents' decision to open an orphanage out of their house. A year after they opened the orphanage, they found out they were having me. I've grown up with many "siblings" over the years. I was only ever close with one, a boy named Jeremy who was five years older than me. He came to the orphanage when he was twelve and I was seven. He taught me all about cool music, and clothes, he actually introduced me to my favorite band, MeWithoutYou. Jeremy was here for a total of six months before some nice old couple from Arkansas adopted him. I am an only child, so it hurt to lose he only person who ever really felt like a brother to me.  Since then I've just tried my best to be polite, but not socialize too much. I was currently the oldest kid in the house, since my friends Josh and Zac got adopted last year by the Farros (one of the richest families in Nashville). I wasn't too close with Josh and Zac, but I still considered them friends. They reminded me a lot of Jeremy, but I knew not to get too attached. Now the oldest kid was Liam, who was twelve. For some reason, the kids' enjoyed tormenting me, and Liam always seemed to be the ring leader.

I pulled on a pair of black skinny jeans, and one of my MeWithoutYou shirts. I looked out of my window, seeing that it was raining outside, so I pulled a sweater over my shirt. I walked down the stairs and into the kitchen. I went to the pantry beside the fridge, and reached down to the very bottom shelf. This is the shelf where the canned vegetables are, so naturally all the kids avoid it, making it the perfect hiding place for my Cap'n Crunch Berries. I reached to the very back of the shelf until my fingertips grazed the box. I pulled it out and poured myself a small bowl before returning the box to its hiding place. Just before I could take my first bite, I heard my mother call for me. I groaned quietly and sat my bowl on the counter, walking towards the sound of her voice.

When I entered the living room, I saw my parents standing in front of all the other kids who were sitting on the floor. I approached cautiously. My mother held out her hand, and gestured for me to sit out on the couch...next to Liam..great. I sat down and my parents shared a quick glance.

"So, kids, Mr.York and I have an announcement. We will be having a new young lady come to stay with us."

A quiet mumble came from all of the kids, while I just rolled my eyes. Great, another little brat to deal with. And a girl, no less. Girls were always worse than boys, they cried and whined about everything! My parents asked if we had any questions, and I saw Liam's hand shot up.

"How old is she?" He asked.

"She just turned 16 in December." My mother answered.

That's just great! She'll probably be even more of a brat now! I bet she's one of those bitchy chicks who's all into One Direction and other bullshit music that means nothing! (A/N: no shade, I actually like some one direction songs 0_o)

"When is she coming?" Another kid, Melanie, asked. She was 13 and had a really creepy crush on me.

"She should be arriving shortly, actually. We would've informed you all sooner, but this case was...urgent." My mother answered, looking uncomfortable and glancing into my father's eyes, which seemed to hold despair in them.

"What does "urgent" mean?" Joel, the youngest kid in the house, asked.

Before either of my parents could answer Joel, the doorbell went off. My mother straightened out the dress she was wearing and went to answer the door with my father. As usual, all the kids waited about five seconds before they ran after my parents to get a look at the new kid. I usually hang back, not caring very much, and I thought this time would be no exception. That is, until all the kids started to gasp and whisper, which they never usually did. I began to break my way through the crowd the kids had formed, in an attempt to get a look at this new girl, and find out what was so shocking about her. I finally got to the front of the pack and took a look at the girl in the doorway.

"Holy shit..." I whispered to myself.
