Epilogue

Peter sat in one of the many seats in the Benatar. Nebula was prepping the ship for flight, and Tony was trying to find Earth's frequency to get in touch again. Peter looked at the empty seat next to him, he had adjusted it to make it look like someone was sitting there. If he closed his eyes, and imagined, then someone was. (Y/n) was there, smiling and assuring him that everything would be okay. That whatever happened, they would go through it together.
Needing an escape, Peter pulled on his mask, formerly discarded on the table. He was hoping he could talk to Karen and get his mind off of things.
"Hello Peter."
"Hi Karen," Peter answered numbly.
"What seems to be the matter?"
"Thanos won. He snapped his fingers and (Y/n)... she saved me."
"Has she died? My sensors tell me her systems have stopped. There's no trace of them."
Peter cleared his throat, tears springing in his eyes. He was going to talk to Karen to get his mind off things. Not to get reminded of them.
"Yeah. She's gone."
"I have a video on file. Would you like me to play it?"
"A video? A video of what?"
"Miss (Y/n) put a video in my files per her request to Mr Stark. Shall I play it?"
"Yes, play it!"
A video of (Y/n) appeared on the screen. She looked nervous as she began speaking.
"Hi Peter! My dad said it would be a good idea to make videos in case I ever... Y'know. After he suggested it he started crying so my mom took him out for ice cream. I guess that doesn't matter though does it? It's just my dad being... Well my dad." (Y/n) laughed slightly, before getting back on track with what she was trying to say, "I know there's risk in the hero business, and someday, that risk could become a reality. And if you're seeing this, it has."
"Hey, kid, you alright?" Tony asked, causing the video to pause automatically. Peter looked up at the hero. Tony was tired, mourning, and hurt, but he was still standing. Peter would have to ask him how he managed it someday.
"I'm alive," was all Peter said. He didn't feel like talking through things when they were still so fresh.
"I lost her too Peter, you know you can talk to me."
"I know Mr Stark, I just want to be alone right now."
"Alright kid, I'm gonna go help Nebula with starting the ship. Let me know if you need anything."
Peter waited until Tony was gone and started the video again, leaning back in his seat to get comfortable. The progress bar on the bottom told him the video was around five minutes long.
"First off, I'd like to say I'm sorry. I don't know how I went out, what happened, but I hope it was with a bang," (Y/n) laughed then cringed, "Probably shouldn't have said that if that is actually how I went out. But, I really am sorry. I didn't want to leave you, I never want to leave you. I want you to know that I died for a good reason, I died being a hero. And that, is exactly how I wanted to go out."
Peter smiled, it was just like (Y/n) to want to go like a hero. Whether she was 80 and had made a difference in the world, or 17, and fighting against a Mad Titan. Going out without making a difference was meaningless to her.
"I want you to know how much I love you. We're young, I get that. People would say we're too immature to know what love is, that we would have broken up as soon as high school was over. But is that really true?"
"No," Peter mumbled as though (Y/n) was really there having that conversation with him. The seat next to him truly was occupied by her presence, "I would've married you someday."
"Have a seance and tell me if I'm wrong, but I feel like we would have lasted a lifetime. All the people that say we wouldn't last haven't been through what we have. Us young heroes, even if we can't legally vote, we have to be mature, and be adults. We have to grow up before anyone else our age does. So even if we are technically young, I think we're old enough to cherish love, and truly feel it."
"Spider-Thing."
Peter sighed and paused the video, looking up at Nebula. She was awkwardly standing in the doorway, arms crossed.
"The ship sustained damage on landing. Stark told me you had a substance that keeps things together. We need it."
"Yeah sure, just show me what I need to fix and I can web it."
Nebula led Peter to what he assumed was the ship's main engine. She pointed out two pipes that had snapped in half. Peter webbed the first pipe, pulling it to the second one. Nebula inspected it before telling Peter he could go back to mourning.
Peter sat back down in the seat he formerly sat in. He asked Karen to pull up the video again, and he continued where he left off, almost halfway through.
"So, don't forget how much I loved you Peter, I really did. Even through the complications and misunderstandings, I knew I would come back to you. Next, I wanted to say thank you. You showed me the basics of New York, how to survive a public high school, and you helped me meet some of the best people in the universe. I need to remember to make videos for them too, actually.
"To end this, I wanted to read you something. I started writing it a while ago just in case and I got some help from MJ since I'm not super poetic. She's surprisingly deep," (Y/n) pulled out a piece of paper.
Peter could faintly see marker written on the other side, so he waited to see what (Y/n) would say, anxious. This entire video was a recipe for tears and forced mourning. But he couldn't hold his emotions in, live in denial that he was upset. He had to face his sadness at some point.
"You won't hear me read this letter, or see the video I will read this in, unless I'm gone. If it had been possible for me to, well, not die, then I wouldn't have. But I guess it wasn't possible. Without doing the things I've done as a hero, I wouldn't really be one. I don't need to tell you how awful I feel from the thought of..." (Y/n) cleared her throat, taking in a deep breath to calm herself, "Leaving you alone, in this big world when I promised we could take it on together, when I know that you'll blame yourself for what happened. When I died, whether it was fast or slow, I went in peace knowing that you'll join me someday. So, goodbye, Peter Parker, my first and only love, and one of the best people I've ever met."
(Y/n) set the piece of paper down and smiled at the camera, though Peter could see her eyes shining like they were full of tears.
"Remember me Pete, cause I'm sure wherever I end up going, I won't forget about you. I love you."
The video ended. Peter was going to take off his mask before he realized his cheeks were wet. That meant he had been crying, a lot. Maybe he should leave the mask on a bit longer, in case Tony or Nebula passed by. Not that Nebula would comment on it but he knew Tony would.
"Karen, can you- can you make sure that the video isn't deleted or anything?" Peter asked shakily. No matter how much of a tear-jerker it was, it was (Y/n)'s final message to him. He couldn't lose that.
"I've backed it up on all fronts."
"Thanks Karen."
"She was a great person Peter. I'll make sure you don't forget her."
"How could I?" Peter questioned.
"You never forget people like that, like her."
Peter pulled off his mask and looked up at Nebula in shock. She sat down across from Peter, sighing quietly.
"Gamora was the same way. Now they're both gone."
"I loved her," Peter stated.
"Love is a weakness they never allowed me to have. Although, I suppose I loved Gamora. Through all our struggles and arguments, we could never hate each other."
"I want to kill him, Thanos."
"You're too young to go down the path I did. Leave him to me." Peter nodded absently at Nebula's order, "Mourn, recover, but never forget. Revenge has always been my motivation. Now, she can be yours."

"Awaken."
(Y/n) could feel her soul return to her body before she actually woke up. It was as though someone had a grip on her heart and they were squeezing as hard as they could.
After her soul settled into her body, she was drowning. It wasn't just a feeling. She was really underwater. Underwater and alive.
(Y/n) burst out of the stone tub she was in, coughing and gasping over the side. Her lungs and heart burned from the strain they had been put under. She looked at her surroundings as her vision began to clear.
"Deep breaths, it will be a lot to take in."
(Y/n)'s head shot up. She remembered that voice. How could she not?
"Thanos," she growled, jumping out of the tub. She nearly slipped on the slick ground beneath her. Where was she?
"Calm yourself child," Thanos said calmly, "That's healing water from a planet called Shrobe. While your soul was unharmed, your physical body still had damage from your last battle after I brought it back."
"Calm myself?" (Y/n) yelled, "I was in peace! I accepted my death, and I said goodbye and- Oh my God Peter! He still thinks I'm dead! Everyone does! And you, you monster. You couldn't just leave me alone could you?"
(Y/n) raised her hand, expecting the water in the tub behind her to follow her lead. When it didn't, she tried pulling water from the air, to no avail.
"What did you do to me?" (Y/n) whispered, she pulled her hair and held it in front of her eyes. The blue streaks she was so accustomed to were slowly turning back to her natural (H/c), "Oh my God!"
"I stopped your mutant cells from communicating with the rest of your body. Temporarily. I had hoped that you would calm yourself so that I might explain, but it appears not."
"What is there to explain? You killed half of the galaxy, and when I died, you couldn't let me stay dead!"
"When your astral form first appeared on my ship, I told you that you would be my next daughter, when I sensed you died, I recreated your physical form and retrieved your soul."
"If you wanted a daughter so badly why wouldn't you just bring back Gamora? She was your favorite, wasn't she?"
"If I were to bring her back, the soul stone would be ripped from my grasp," Thanos admired the yellow stone before getting back on topic, "A new start would be best either way."
"New start? If you think that I would ever train and fight for you, then you're crazier than I thought you were. I have parents, and nothing you do to me will make me call you my father."
Thanos sighed, "I wished you would understand."
Thanos took a large step towards (Y/n). The young girl turned to run away, but her body froze in place. Letting out a whimper her eyes followed Thanos as he placed his hand on her head. She saw the orange gem, the mind stone, begin to glow.
"No... I told him I wouldn't forget," (Y/n)'s eyes teared up.
"You'll still remember your beloved, only under a different light."
It was like watching a candle melt. Her most precious memories melted away in front of her. They left one by one until all that was left was basic information and her first name. A blank slate that Thanos was more than happy to fill.
"(Y/n)."
(Y/n) blinked rapidly, looking up at the man in front of her. He was smiling slightly, giving her a sense of peace. She saw an orange gem glow on his hand and suddenly she knew who he was.
"Father," she said with a smile.
"Hello my daughter," Thanos put a hand on her shoulder and she was filled with a sense of power. She saw parts of her hair turning blue in her peripheral vision, "Come, you must be dressed."
(Y/n) looked down at herself, realizing she was only wearing cloth to cover herself.
"Okay, what will we do after that, Father?"
"I have balanced The universe, but now we must bring order," (Y/n) stopped, looking down at the ground strangely. A memory came to her mind. She was kissing someone, a boy in a blue and red uniform, "(Y/n)?"
"Do you have an ally that wears red and blue?" She asked curiously. That man interested her. Who was he? Why were they kissing? Was he important?
"No, you shall learn later," Thanos said after a pause, "Come. We have much work to do."
