"You've got to be kidding me!" I stare at him in disbelief.

"Ha! As if!" He eyes were focused on the road as he took a sharp cut, throwing me at his side. I yelped in pain as his shoulder dug in my arm.

"Can't you sit tight?!? Stupid!" I flinched at his angry voice but kept my mouth shut. For the next twenty minutes the car was adorned in silence, in the dim street lights I would see the stress in his hazel eyes. The sleeves of the dark blue shirt were resting on his forearms showing a visible nerve popped out on his well defined biceps. There was an aura around him, something I failed to understand.

"We are here." It took me less than a minute to recognize our location. The fir trees and forest track was the extended part of St. Joseph's park in the north of the city. At this time of the night, the place was deserted, deserted enough to make you believe in werewolves and vampires.

"I have to go. You can wait here and I'll send someone to drive you home." The anger in his voice was replaced my tiredness and frustation.

"And before you ask you, no you can't come. Not when you're dressed like freaking Katherine Heigel." He eyed me carefully with hints of anger sparking in his eyes before heading out and slamming the door shut.

What the caramel fudge!

The jhumkas itched my ears and left me no choice but to took them off and placing them on the dashboard. Curiosity got the best of me as I tried moving at every angle to get a better look through the tainted glass but all I saw was darkness which tingled my toes. There was no way I would go out at this hour wearing these clothes but my heart was persistent to have a look. Feeling defeated I looked around and as soon as my gaze stopped on the back seat, an idea sprung in my brain.

Nayal

"Gloves." The second the gloves slid down my fingers, I bent down towards the dead body.

"From the bullet wounds the time window is around 6 to 10."
Dexter, the forensic guy informed checking the body for any further traces.

"Who called us?" As I traced the bullet wounds on the chest of the young man, a familiar yet cringing image appeared in my eyes. Amal lying in that dark alley, blood oozing out of her temple and her soul leaving her body.

"A young couple was walking by when they saw him here. The call was placed exactly half an hour ago." One of the junior lieutenants filled me in.

"We found his wallet, licence and some pounds. He wasn't jumped or the money and his £2000 TAG Heuer would be gone. There was a...."

"Where is Sean?" It perked up my anger that Sean who usually filled me in was absent.

"I...called him. His...phone was...it was switched off." A foriegn voice answered me making it impossible for me not to look up.
A chubby girl was standing behind me. Her glasses were bigger than her already big face. She was clearly over weight but absolutely beautiful with big dark eyes and short red hair framing her face. A timid expression was painted on her face as she answered.

"And who are you?" I turned back to the body searching for any residue of the gun powder.

"T-t-taylor Stanley, you're...assistant."

"Damn! I told the Chief that I will find one myself!" Once again my anger shot up.

"I-I-I..." She started but I beat her to it.

"Save it!" I snapped quickly getting up.

"Already did!" Once again I stared at her as she wrote something down.

Did she actually write it down?

"Yes I did. I'm your assistant it came in my job requirement." Her shy, stuttering self was replaced by a confidence.

Mumbling a 'whatever', I fixed my eyes on the body with 9 bullets. Seven straight in the chest and one in each eye. The moment I was called I knew who was behind this, yet I had no evidence to link. It was their old style; the bullets. The man was no older than thirty with numerous tattoos on his arms.

Before I could call Sean, the scene in front of my eyes took my breath away. Zeeniya stood under the dim street light in my maroon shirt and black sweatpants with the same hijab as earlier. Everything around me blurred, highlighting her but it didn't last long as she galloped towards me. The large shirt that easily fit my toned body swallowed her and the sweatpants, God! They were hanging loosely around her waist and took more than my strength to tear my eyes away.

"Nothing is impossible for Zeeniya Tahan." With fury in her blue eyes she stared straight at me.

"You shouldn't be here." I tried keeping my anger on leash, as I softly mumbled.

"Don't tell me what to do!"

I don't what it was the fact that she stood so beautifully in my clothes or she just snapped at me or the other reasons I rather not think about. I pushed her against the lamppost, a safe distance between with my hand gripping her arm. She was taken by surprise, I give her that, but couldn't help her eyebrows from twitching.

"I don't tolerate disrespect especially when I'm around with my juniors. So keep your tongue in check!" In a microsecond, I loosened my grip and staggered her way looking at me with a raw expression.

"And where the fuck is SEAN?" My voice echoed among the trees as I punched the pole.

I watched intently as Zeeniya gave me a dreadful look before tip toeing to the crime scene. Her hands curled into fists and her body slightly shaking. People like her tend to think that they have hidden their secrets and fears hence have no idea that there are people who can see and sense them.

She stopped a feet away from the crime scene tape, my maroon shirt was being rubbed brutally as her legs shivered. I knew that if I stayed a few minutes longer, I wouldn't be able to control myself from grabbing her in a bear hug.

Where the hell is Sean!

I looked around the dark night, the stars wondering what kind of life the man lived, how his family will take the news or how many lives were shot dead with those bullets.

"How do you do this?" I turned around, my hands stuffed in my midnight black pants' pockets.

"Why don't they realize that one bullet can killed tear apart so many people?" Her back was still facing me.

"I just...he seemed so young. His parents, siblings, friends maybe a girlfriend. Those bullets...their lives wouldn't be the same anymore." Her voice broke on the edge, becoming raspy. I smiled inwardly at our same thoughts.

"It's the cycle of life. You get used to it after a while." Turning around I came face to face Zeeniya whose face was red, either with the chilly air or the situation.

"I'll get someone to drop you home, wait here." I would never trust anybody except Sean with Zeeniya, and right now that son of a gun was nowhere to be found.

"Sir we need your signature to apply for the warrant." I scribbled my name on the sheet faster than you could say sabotage.

"I'm here!" I spun on heels to welcome Sean who clearly looked as of he had been disturbed at the wrong time. The top three buttons of his shirt were undone with his pants loosely hanging as he pulled it up. As he came up close I spotted a few lipstick stains on his collar making my ears perked up.

"I'm here, k? Don't give me that look." Running a hand through his hair, he rolled his eyes at me.

"After me."

"It was my only day off in the past...what...two weeks. Gimme a break!" His gaze wandered to Zeeniya who was giving him a suspicious look.

"I need you here. Every fucking time I call you. Always." Grumbling at his face I prodded ahead him towards the body.

Before I could bark orders at him, he took my arm pushed me to one of the department's car. Once he looked around for any intruder, his mouth opened.

"Are you sick?"

"What? No!"

"Did Chief fire you?"

"Hell no! He can't fire the best!"

He rolled his eyes but didn't keep his questions down.

"Then why the hell are you acting like the damn Hulk?" He poked a finger at my chest, blowing up my pressure cooker.

"You know what! That shit is gonna propose her! That's what's going on!" I punched the door of the car which caused a small dent but sharp pain in my knuckles.

"Who?"

"Asad! That damned moron!" I turned sideways exhaling my anger, as I viewed Zeeniya talking to my newly hired assistant.

"Her cousin? What the hell?" Sean gave me a sympathetic look, "But why do care? Beacuse the last I checked you claimed to have no interest in her."

"I-I...she's in the middle of a havoc! Her Mum's murderers are chasing her a freaking Quaffle!"

At the reception, I overheard Asad talking to his sister about how amazing Zeeniya is and that he will ask for her hand before going back. When I first met that guy I found him okay unlike his mother but no my blood evaporates at his mere thought. I couldn't face Zeeniya throughout the night and the car.

"She doesn't belong to you. Jesus Christ Nayal! Either have the courage to claim her yours or leave her the hell alone!" He let out a dry laugh making my insides creep.

"I...I can't..." I felt defeated, as my voice drained.

"Dude, you think that douche can sweep her away to Pakiztan? That's Zeeniya were are talking about. She will reject freaking Prince Harry let alone that bloody idiot!" He patted my shoulder giving me an encouraging smile.

"If you're done being my therapist, we have work to do." I managed between a yawn getting out from the behind the car.

"I love you too." He came close to me and before I could stop him he placed a sloppy kiss on my cheek.

"You bastard!" I tried to chase him but he made a narrow escape.

"Tag and bag everything, contact the next to kin, I need the forensics report by tomorrow morning and also get every piece of information on this guy, from his last girlfriend to last morsel he ate." Even though he was mentally cursing me, he gave a small nod, "And try doing it without complaining like a pregnant lady." I yelled after him.

Sean

"I'll meet you at the office. I have to drop Ms. Tahan home." I told Nayal's assistant, Taylor before getting in the car.

"Let's go." I turned my head towards Zeeniya who was resting her head on the window, looking out.

"What is your say on relationships?" After ten minutes of silence I took the hammer to break the ice.

For a few minutes she didn't say anything just kept looking out but then spoke.

"Have long have you Jessica been together?"

"We were cerebrating our six months anniversary tonight." My mood saddened thinking about it. I hate ditching my girl, especially tonight but duty calls.

"And what's the thing you guys fight over the most? Honestly." She didn't look at me, snuggling deep into Nayal's shirt.

"We don't fight." I stated which made her face me with a 'duh' look.

"Okay...! She doesn't approve my smoking habits and some times when I get called from work like tonight. And you know her, she can't keep her hate to herself." I gave her an honest answer.

"What about you?" Her questions started bothering me.

"These days it's getting on my nerves that whenever I say that we should tell Nayal about us, she denys it. And also one of guy friend." I growled just thinking about him staring at Jess.

"In the next five years, if you guys stayed together you will propose to her. You'll get married, live in your dream house then trouble will simmer. When she finds cigarettes in your pocket or you breathe reeks, she'll blow up. Or if that guy friend of hers text her, you will lose it. A big fight, lot of cursing, digging up old grudges, her crying, you screaming. Then you guys will either live together with shattered and blackened hearts or you will separate. Then you'll look back and think 'damn I should've never wasted my time and money on this relationship.' That's what I think."

For a moment I wanted to stop the car and just absorb her words but I didn't.

"You're crazy." I muttered slightly shaking my head in disbelief.

"I've been called worse."

None of us said anything during the rest of the journey, I could see the reason why she was Jessica's best friend or why Nayal was so obsessed over her.

Next day
Adam

"Ady! Ma' boy!" His mouth spluttered more alcohol reek than words.

"I don't appreciate your people dragging me out of the university like that. Don't blame me if someone gets suspicious." I shrugged away from the m9nan's tight grip, scowling at him.

"Awww....little Ady mad at his Daddy? I'm sowwy." The whole room except for me chuckled loudly making me cringe.

"What'd you want?" It was crystal clear that he didn't send four of his precious men just to drag me here for a cup of chai.

Today I woke up with a contended smile realizing that only a semester is left before I can fled from this place. But just after noon I was brought to this disgusting place. No person in his right mind would call him by father, neither by looks nor by his affection and love for me. It all came back almost an year back when one day after returning from the tennis court, I was pulled into a van.

I believed the horror of my nighmares ended, when it was just a trailer.

"What's your final verdict?" He traced his fingers on the Cuban cigar, "And I hope you won't displease Daddy."

"You killed Amal, now you want my sister. Why don't you fuck yourself!?!" It took a second for them to register my words and as soon as they did, a punch was delivered right at my jaw. On touching, I found traces of blood spilled out of my mouth and pain that made me wonder if I broke my jaw.

"Take him away. I don't mind if he needs ventilator after this! Son of a bi*ch! Defying his own flesh and blood for that piece of shit he calls his sister! He doesn't know who I..." His voice trailed off as I was taken to the end of the hallway. Everything around me muffled into the background as a baseball bat hit me with all the might.

I prayed and prayed and prayed but they were merciless. In that moment I doubted whether there Allah was loved me or not because except for Him I had no one who could save me from these animals.

"What now Ady boy?"  If it weren't for the two men twice my size gripping each of my arm, I would've collapsed right now. A stream of blood was dripping down from my nose to my neck. The way he slammed his fist to my eye, I was suprised I could still see. The rest of my body was beyond broken, I couldn't move my legs and there were some cuts on my arms. They were ruthless. After a while, my brain could only manage these words before passing out.

"Okay... I'll get her to you."

A veryyy happy belated Independence Day to my dear Pakistanis and Indians!
