Dream

Walking under the midnight moon
Full as a ripe mothers belly
Wind playing with the branches
Of a nearby tree

The soft murmurs of ghosts
Talking of lost hopes and dreams
Soft footsteps grazing over green grass
The whisper of cloth against skin

Alone with the sound of swings moving in the wind
Like phantom children still at play
If you listen closely, you can still hear their laughter
Alone in this dreamlike world, but not for long

As the silence is split by heavier footsteps
In the light of the moon, a shadow reveals itself
Tall and lithe, moving with a purpose
The smell of a warm male wafts in the air

Stalking up to me
Ice blue eyes intent
He smiles and begins to speak
Talking of times past and a love lost

As we walk the moonlit pathways
Pacing side by side
I gaze up at the moon, only for a second
Looking back to see....nothing

I call your name
Looking in the laughing shadows
Peering through the darkest areas
I find you...Or do I?

You lie on the ground
A look of hate in your eyes
Men stand above you
Armed with clubs, knives, and a gun

A shot rings out into the night
A look of pain crossing your face
Blood seeping into the ground
I Rage

I shift
Into what all humans fear
A wolf made of silver
Eyes of slashing green

I run into the crowd
Ripping, shredding
Blood splattering on those frozen in fear
A broken neck here, a torn arm there

I howl as the last falls to the ground
His throat, gone, all ruined meat
My body covered in blood and gore
The taste on my tongue

A moon in red
I look to you
A look of pain in your eyes
But you know me, who I am

I lick the blood from your wounds
They began to seal and close
A whimper rises in my throat
As I feel them opening upon me

I collapse in pain as you stand
Pristine and anew
You say nothing as you walk away
Leaving me to my fate

I howl once more
Grieving my pain to the forgiving moon
Lightning striking the sky
Thunder rumbling in my body

I jerk awake
Not knowing where I am
I look around me
As it seems, it was just a dream

Or was it?
