The Real Magic
I don't know about you, but I took it kind of hard when I didn't get my Hogwarts acceptance letter when I turned 11. I knew that Harry Potter was just a story, and didn't ACTUALLY expect an owl to come swooping in.
But a little piece of me just couldn't help hoping.
As it turns out, I did get a letter. My oldest brother wrote me one, on yellowed parchment in green ink. He told me in it about how he loved me and hoped I had a great birthday. He said he was glad to have another Harry Potter fan in the family and that it meant a lot to him.
And then he went on to describe the real magic in the world. It's found in our religion.
Do you ever stop and think about just how incredible it is? We will live forever. Forever. True love does exist, and can last through this life and into eternity. Our god has the power to create worlds, and perform miracles of all kinds. This is a power we will share if we live righteously!
How amazing is that? We spend our lives looking for magic and find that we've been staring it in the face all this time.
So no. I'm not a Hogwarts student. I don't have superpowers, fight monsters, or sing so beautifully it brings people to tears.
But I still believe in magic. The ordinary, everyday sort of magic that can bring a smile to someone sad. This is something real, and all of us are a part of it. It's part of our faith and part of being human. So use it for good :)
