The electricity at my house just shut off, and... Bada Bing! New spiritual parallels opened up to me.

Electricity is something that we tend to take for granted. I try to list a lot of things I'm thankful for in my prayers, but I don't think I've ever thanked God for our electricity. I mean think about it. Electricity:

Runs your refrigerator, oven, and other appliances

Powers the internet

Lights your home

Runs fans and clocks

And tons of other things we don't even think about. In a way, I think electricity is like the Holy Ghost. If we do what we're supposed to (like pay our electricity bills) then it will help our lives run more smoothly.

But sometimes we do things in life that shut it off.

When I first woke up, I didn't even notice that the power was off. It can sometimes take awhile to notice that the spirit is gone from your life. I went through my morning like normal, but started to sense that something was missing.

Once I figured it out, I became a lot more conscious of how much we use power and what a shock it is to lose it. The spirit is that way. It gives us early warnings of danger, helps us be kinder, and gives us comfort in hard times. Losing the spirit can feel just as bad as losing electricity. Actually worse.

I haven't committed any huge sins in my life, but sometimes I know that the spirit isn't with me as strong as it could be. I tend to feel lazy, kind of in a stupor, and passive aggressive when the holy ghost isn't with me.

But when I get it back, boy does it feel great!

So when you next pray, I challenge you to thank Heavenly Father for sending his comforter to us... and also thank him for your electricity. We are more blessed than we can even comprehend.
