Can you answer me the question I have been asking myself for a whole month: Are oranges called oranges because they are orange, or because orange is the color of an orange?
I just want to know the answer already😣😣😣
Well I never thought about that so I went to my second best source of answers and this is what they said. The citrus definitely got named first. The earliest recorded use of orange the fruit in English is from the 1300s and came to us from the Old French orenge, adapted from the Arabic nāranj, from the Persian nārang, from the Sanskrit nāranga ("orange tree"). It also states that the Persian word from which "orange" is derived did not refer to the colour of the fruit, but to the bitterness of its skin. Orange as a colour adjective dates from the early 16th century; therefore we can say that the orange is called orange because it is orange, as well as orange is orange because of the orange
In a way orange was well known as the fruit not ascolor. If I'm not mistaken the color wheel was discovered in the mid-1600s by sir Isaac Newton. So it understandable that they knew orange as food and not a color. Well that's how see it I hope this helps.
So before we wrap up I want to say thanks to everyone for their support . If you have any questions leave it in the comments section below and I'll answer it as soon as I possibly can. With that being said this is musicride singing off bye.
