pls don't yell at me im fragile
An overwhelming numbness overtook James' body. It didn't hurt, it just made his body feel broken, like it was spitting, tearing itself apart. Every fragment of his body was ripped in two, untill he was seemingly a dust.
He felt himself start to float, like the pure essence of his soul was floating, he was scared a gust of wind would blow by and whisk him away from Thoma-
Thomas.
James desperately tried to search for Thomas, trying to yell out to him. An anxious feeling stared growing inside of James, knawing at his insides as he tried to move, yell, anything.
But therewas nothing.
He felt weak. Powerless.
A saddness brew in his mind. A deep depression that only death could bring.
So, letting his human instincts take hold, he burst out into a mess of violence.
Trying to kick, pucnch, yell, scream, anything to make it see like he was alive and real.
But he wasn't alive.
A feeling of kuebiko made him tire, and he hesitantly stopped attempting useless violence.
He let his guard dowm. His mind to stop racing. His soul to stop screaming.
He just, stopped.
His whole world was enveloped in darkness.
It seemed like an eternity until he became aware of his presence again. He quickly realised two things. One, he was in some sort of body. He wasn't just a drifting soul.
Two, he was laying on solid ground.
His eyes fluttered open, to a bright shining sun, glaring at him to get up.
His mind screamed at him to jump up as fast as possible, and find out where he was, but his body moved slowly, as if it was weighed down. He didn't feel pain. His entire body was in a constant state of feeling fine.
He couldn't describe it.
He no longer felt the blood pumping through his veins, or the muscles tighting and loosening when he flexed.
He stood up.
He now noticed his surroundings. He awoke in a bed of flowers. Different shades of blossoming colours made it devastatingly obviously to look at, seeing as all else he could see was all pure white. James spun on his heels to survey the place. He noticed a misty outline of a house not too far away. There were trees and flowers surrounding it. Weeping willow trees and blue bells, James noticed. The shades were seemingly extracted from the plant life, seeing as they were also a shade of white.
James looked down at himself, and noticed he wad also wearing white. The clothes he was wearing when he died. A oversized sweater and baggy jeans, only all shades of white and light yellow.
He couldnt form words. He felt faint. He didn't think he was going to pass out, seeing as he probably couldn't, but the feeling was overwhelming.
"James?"
The call was uncertain. Scared and soft. But James recognized it instantly.
"Thomas?"
James spun around, to see Thomas, in much like the same clothes he was in.
He barely notcied that, though, as he ran towards the other and flung himself into Thomas's outstreached arms, causing them both to fall onto the seemingly dreamlike ground.
James clutched to the other like there would be no tomorrow. The familiar feeling of Thomass arms soothed him in this confusing place. It made him feel at home; though they were far away from where home would be considered.
Thomas pulled back, and stared into the others eyes. There were tears streaming down his face. James only now notcied his was also crying.
"Where are we, Jemmy...?" Thomas's voice was soft, almost broken.
"I think we're... gone..." James whispered back. He noticed his voice sounded just as broken as Thomas's.
He choked back a sob, and pulled Thomas closer again.
"We're dead."
Their grieving took time, but they were eventually able to stand, both leaning on each other.
"Where are we?" Thomas muttered again, looking around the misty place.
"Theres a house. We should check that out first." James pointed out. Once there, Thomas could notice things about it. It was a small quaint cottage, seemingly built for two. He tried the door, and it flung open freely. The couple shared a look, before venturing into the strange house.
"Hello?" Thomas called.
No answer.
"Can anyone tell us where we are?"
Silence.
Thomas walked a little farther into the house. No one.
"So... we're dead?" James asked.
"I would assume."
"So this must be... the afterlife?"
"I... guess."
"Maybe this is where we live from now on."
Thomas turned to look at him.
"But shouldn't there be like... more dead people? Like, I'm not religious or anything, but shouldn't there be way more spirits? Or... something?"
James shrugged.
"I mean, where ever we are, it seems pretty vacant."
The two stared at each other.
Thomas smiled a bit.
"What?" James asked.
"You're so beautiful." Thomas sighed dreaming, making James scoff and flush.
"Thomas, we are literally dead. Is now really the time?"
"Hey. We got eternity for it." He grinned. Thomas took a step closer, pulling James into a kiss. Soft, slow. Hesitant.
"Still can't believe we died." James whispered. "Remind me to never let you propose again."
"Oh come on!" Thomas laughed, making James giggle.
"This is your fault! You're the one who jumped on me!"
"I was happy! Ecstatic, even! Don't blame my emotions." James giggled.
"So... are we still married, then?" Thomas asked.
"...Hm... I'll think about it." James teased, making Thomas pout.
"I'm kidding! Of course we're still married!" James exclaimed, grinning.
"Good." Thomas smirked, picking James up bridal style, making James laugh.
"Lets find a bedroom in this place."
"What for?"
"Oh you know exactly what for." Thomas smirked, making James blush and giggle.
The two found it easy to live in the old cottage, not really needing to eat, nor sleep. Sometimes, years later, other spirits of friend and relatives would wake up in the same bed of flowers, just to say hello before finding their own cottage.
Thomas Jefferson, and James Jefferson, may be dead,
But they were at peace.
