Awe Jimmy James

James had heard stories about people with soul mates. Couples found each other in the strangest places. At movies, in parks. It's said that when you catch a glimpse of your soul mate, colour floods your senses. Hues of reds, blues and yellows brighten your world, making adrenaline rush, your palms to get sweaty, and you to feel absolutely helpless in love.

James thought it sounded terrible.

Sure, love was a beautiful thing, but he had love. His parents loved him, his siblings loved him, and that was all he expected that he would need. He would rather avoid awkward discomfort in trying to approach his soul mate. He swore that if he did ever find his other- which he doubted he would, it's mathematically pretty impossible- he wouldn't make a big deal about it. He would stay calm and collected, and see if the other noticed it too. He's not going to go around, throwing himself into a stranger's arms, just because he saw some colour.

That's when Mister Thomas Jefferson walked into his life.

It was cold November day, and James was walking to the store for- ironically- cold medicine. His hands shoved in his pockets, and 75% of his face covered by a scarf and toque, he walked hurriedly along the sidewalk, the cold nipping at his nose.

He crossed a street and walked up to the doors of the store,

When he heard a yell.

He spun around,

and his vision burst into red and orange, leaves scattered on the ground. The murky blue sky that hung above, the coloured jackets people were wearing.

It was beautiful.

But not in comparison to the man that was jogging towards him, a goofy smile on his face.

James briefly thought that he might faint.

A blue beanie was pulled over puffy brown hair, brown eyes shined as the man smiled at James.

"Hi." The other said when he finally caught up with James. He was a bit breathless.

James blinked. "Hello."

"You uh, see it too?"

James nodded.

The other laughed a bit. "Cool. I'm uh, Thomas. Thomas Jefferson." The boy said, holding his hand out for James to shake it. James stared at the outstretched hand for a moment before taking it. "James... Madison." He said, unable to tear his eyes off of the strange man. He had a smile that seemed to leave his face.

"So uh, am I gonna catch your number, or are you going to continue staring at me?" The boy giggled. James blinked, and progressively went a shade of pink. "Oh, uh, yeah. Sorry." He stuttered, pulling his phone out. The two exchanged numbers, quite timidly, honestly.

"Alright, cool," Thomas said with a smile. "I uh, talk to you soon then." James nodded. "S-sounds good!" He said, mustering the least awkward smile he could. Thomas gave a short wave and walked away.

Madison pulled his phone out and dialed a number.

"Peggy? Hi. It's James. Emergency. I'll be over in five."

He hung up and dashed off, quickly forgetting about cold medicine.
