Chapter 28- The Challenges (Part 2)

As the timer Saotome prepared on his watch went off, the students walked alongside their partners ready for the next challenge at hand.

"Time's up!" Raging Ootori announced as he swooped down from the ceiling and landed safely. Saotome followed suit and said "We have a list of music prepared for you all and we will be grading your stamina along with your ability to improvise. Once you've run out of ideas, you will be asked to stand aside. After each song, you can choose to switch partners, but you must do so quickly within the span of 10 seconds before we play the next song."

"The partners from either Academy can participate in a duel of sorts in which you may grow from each other's moves," added Ootori. "We are looking for things to spice up, so it is recommended that you don't stay with only one partner so that you can help your school become victorious."

The Heavens members looked deviously toward The Dream Catchers, who shivered and glared at most of them. The Starish boys looked to each other, confirming in silence that they would do their best to keep the girls safe.

"Everyone please come to the center with your partners," said Saotome.

Moonlight walked alongside Syo with their hands intertwined. Otoya and Taiyou gave each other a high five and walked together. Eclipse walked close to Francis, her smaller hand almost hidden in Francis's warm hand, their fingers interlocked together. Tokiya walked swiftly while Shay had a small skip to her walk as she practiced moving in a rhythmic pattern, her arm interlocked with Tokiya's. Shane and Masato walked quietly to the center, each determined to do well. Musical and Natsuki walked hand in hand where Natsuki squeezed Musical's hand which started to turn cold.

"Alright, ready your feet because we're going to start with some pop," said Saotome through a mic that dropped from the ceiling he came down from.

The music quickly began at once and everyone commenced their improvised dance moves.

(I'm not a dancer, so I apologize if I'm don't write elaborate details on le dancing, I'll try my best to make them interesting hehe)

"Here Shay, remember, follow my lead," Tokiya muttered under his breath.

Shay nodded and at once, they both started moving their body to the rhythm of the music. Tokiya grabbed the brown eyed girl's hand and brought her close. He immediately started stepping and twisting his legs to the beat of the song and Shay did her best to follow suite and made similar moves. Tokiya then moved her away, lifting his arm to spin her around. At once the girl spun around. As soon as she spinned a couple of times, Tokiya brought her close once more. Their faces were inches away from each other. Then Shay decided that she would do the dance moves Tokiya showed her. She moved away and started clapping and sliding in sync to the bass in the music. Tokiya smiled and did a couple of tricks that he had under his sleeves.

The song gradually slowed down and the pair got close to each other.

"You're dancing is really good," complimented Tokiya.

"Thanks Tokiya, I was surprised that I wasn't failing so far," said Shay.

Aside from your will, I'm helping you out child.

"Akiyume?!" Shay exclaimed while looking around. Tokiya looked at the girl, confused. Yes child, though speak with your mind, I'm talking to you through your mind.

Oooh, pfft, I knew that, Shay thought as she tried to brush it off.

"Shay?" Tokiya called out to the girl. "Don't stop moving," he said while taking the girl into his arms. He brought her up and Shay immediately reacted by doing some kicks in the air, trying to make it seem like she planned this with Tokiya. Turning around, Tokiya placed Shay down and pushed her away while she copied his actions. Then the two came together.

The principals nodded and looked around at the other dancers.

In any case, you're telling me that I can get tired if I try imagining the dance moves I want to do, so I should try not to use the powers too much, Shay reiterated to Akiyume.

Correct, now keep dancing.

You've got it!

Tokiya moved closer to Shay and said, "Were you talking to Akiyume or yourself in your head?"

"To Akiyume," Shay answered. "She explained some things to me which explain why I picked up on the dance moves quickly."

"Oh ok. I was just checking to make sure you're okay," said Tokiya.

The song faded away and came to an end. Everyone breathed more as a result of their quickened heartbeats and quickly braced themselves as they heard a more salsa based song.

Moonlight looked to her side and saw Syo already moving swiftly to the music. "You make dancing look so easy," she said in awe. Her face grew rosy.

"Not really, you just have to be free and let loose," said Syo. He moved over to Moonlight and wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her close. "Like this," Syo whispered in Moonlight's ear. Moonlight felt a shiver run down her spine. This shiver was most certainly not an unpleasant feeling.

Syo brought his face away from the brunette's ear and then spun her around. Moonlight took Syo's advice and surrendered herself to the music. She pictured her dance moves within her mind. When she opened her eyes, she remarked that she was accurately moving her limbs to the choreography she created within her brain.

"You've got it Moonlight," Syo praised the pink eyed girl. Moonlight said, "I did it, didn't I?"

That's when she remembered about the powers given to them. I guess this means that we can make ourselves amazing dancers, Moonlight thought in her brain.

Correct child, a familiar voice confirmed within Moonlight's mind.

Akiyume?, Moonlight wondered within her head while she continued dancing.

That's me! I've granted you four a temporary power to perform your choreography, but let me tell you to not to use it too frequently since it might tire you all out more, Akiyume explained.

Alright, thanks Aki-chan, Moonlight responded to the purplette.

Of course! I wish you all luck!

"Moonlight, are you there?" A male voice called.

Moonlight shook her head and said, "Excuse me?"

"I was asking what you were thinking about since you stopped dancing for a moment. I had to improvise," said Syo. Moonlight realized at once that Syo was carrying her bridal style and that her arms were around his neck. She blushed and said, "S-Sorry, A-Akiyume started talking to me in my head."

"She can do that?" Syo asked, clearly surprised. Moonlight nodded, and a voice giggled within their thoughts.

That's right, now keep dancing!

Syo jumped, and said, "WHAT THE HECK?!"

Alarmed, he didn't realize that he caught the attention of the people around him. He blushed and said, "Nevermind, I just saw something dang it! Look away!!"

People looked at Syo weirdly, their eyes lingering on him for a few more seconds. Soon after, they continued to dance with their partners. Moonlight giggled and said, "Well, follow your own advice Syo!" Syo nodded and twirled Moonlight around without letting go of her hand. Their hearts beated in unison as they danced together. They focused on each other, Syo looking into Moonlight's pink orbs while she looked into his own pools of of blue eyes. As the song slowed down, Syo brought Moonlight close to himself so that he was embracing her.

"I'd like to keep holding you like this," he muttered to himself. Moonlight looked up at Syo and blushed. Feigning the innocent one, Moonlight said, "Could you say that again?"

Syo blushed and was about to deny that he said anything but he stopped himself. I should try to be more open about my feelings I guess, he thought to himself as he exhaled. He cleared his throat.

"I-I just said that I want to keep holding you like this, but we have to keep dancing," Syo repeated.

Moonlight's mouth formed the shape of an "o" as her cheeks blushed.

"You know, people tend to call me cute," Syo started, and leaned closer toward Moonlight so that only she could hear the rest of his words. "But I think you're the adorable one,  especially when you blush," finished Syo with a grin. He sweeped her off her feet and spun with her.

"T-That's really sweet Syo, thank you," said Moonlight as she tried to stifle her urges to squeal. "I could get used to that more open side of you."

"I'd have to work on it," admitted Syo.

The salsa faded away, and a more up beat classic rock song replaced it.

Musical was nearly all over the place. She tried to keep up but she felt like she was dancing with no rhythm.

"Mus-chan! Follow me!" Natsuki said while dancing over to a more open place. Natsuki seemed to have no problem with the change.

"O-Ok," Musical said. " I'm really sorry for dancing horrendously, I can't dance and I'm just barely keeping up. It doesn't help that I'm such a klutz." I'm probably such a burden to Natsuki, she frowned with that thought.

"Don't worry Mus-chan, you can do it!" Natsuki tried to encourage the short brunette. "Look, just follow my lead, I'll guide you!"

He quickly took her hand and pulled her swiftly. Not being able to predict Natsuki's strength, Musical nearly flew into Natsuki's arms. She squeaked as she collided into his sturdy chest.

"Oh my gosh I'm sorry," Musical blurted out, her cheeks reddening at the close contact.

"It's okay Mus-chan, just follow your heart and let it move with the beat," Natsuki said nonchalant with a grin. He noticed how rigid the girl was in his arms. "You feel tense, that's the problem! Just let loose and have fun Mus-chan. Trust me," Natsuki said encouragingly to the girl. She took a deep breath and sighed. "You're right Na-chan, I'll try."

Using the close proximity of the brunette, Natsuki pushed Musical away with his hands clasped around her smaller ones and then moved toward her. Musical caught on and moved toward Natsuki and locked arms with him and the two diverted from each other, their arms moving in the position of an archer pulling back their arrow.

I managed to pull off that move from elementary school! Musical remarked. Well, it's an old rock song, some of my weird moves may be valid.

Do it child! You can do any moves you'd like, just don't use this power too much or else you'll get tired quickly.

Musical heard that voice and immediately recognized it.

Thank you Aki-chan!

No problem, now dance!

With more confidence, Musical began trying to do the dance moves she remembered seeing at some point in her life.

"Wow Mus-chan, you're dancing really well!" Natsuki exclaimed.

"Somewhat, but thanks Na-chan," the brunette said with a smile. Musical began twisting her feet and her entire body, which was all in sync with the beat. The pair held hands and combined the series of twists and turns. At some point, Natsuki held Musical's hands and swung her over him, and brought her down safely. She squealed through the process.

"I'm really dancing, oh my gosh!" Musical exclaimed. Natsuki beamed at the significantly shorter girl. "I knew you could do it Mus-chan. Plus you're having fun and you don't feel so tense anymore, I'm glad."

"Thank you Natsuki," said Musical with an appreciative grin.

Soon, the rock song ended.

Suddenly a more tango sounding song came up.

Eclipse looked up to Francis who had a twinkle in his eye. He extended his hand towards the brunette who accepted it and was pulled close to the taller boy.

"Are you ready~?" Francis whispered close to Eclipse's ear.

Eclipse shivered and laughed quietly. She nodded and shortly Francis held her other hand with his remaining hand.

"Did you just?" Eclipse started.

"Maybe~" said Francis.

With a small chuckle, Francis brought the shorter girl closer and turned her with her back facing his chest, their body's at a close proximity. She could feel his breath tickling her neck. She felt a pleasant chill run down her spine. His heart started speeding up considerably along with Eclipse's heart.

Leading the girl, Francis took small abrupt steps, beginning the Tango.

Eclipse was at a loss of words. She felt as if she was flying in the air with Francis every time he lifted her up. She kicked the air in a way that made her look like she was walking on air. Closing her eyes, she focused on the rhythm of her heart beating in sync with Francis', the beating drowning out every other noise except for the music.

"My dear little rose, I'm surprised at how well you dance tango," Francis nearly whispered. Eclipse chortled, and said, "Yeah, well, you'd randomly want to dance with me, so I might have picked up one or two things."

"Is that so~?" Francis hummed. "Then those little dances you were embarrassed of came to good use then."

"Oh hush," said Eclipse with a laugh. "That still doesn't take away the fact that I'm an artist, not a dancer."

"That reminds me, I was told by Akiyume that she'd help us out with the dancing just as long as it's used in moderation. So if you can imagine a dance move, you will be capable of doing it," Francis whispered as he brought the brunette close, their faces a mere millimeters apart.

Eclipse gasped slightly and said, "Well that's good to know. Geez, so that means we have to be careful." She pouted slightly, making Francis laugh silently.

"Oh my dear little rose, it's getting harder for me to refrain from kissing you here and now," Francis said as his laughing died out.

Eclipse looked up at Francis and then quickly closed her eyes. She was caught off guard, and wondered how she was still not used to Francis' tricks.

"N-No comment," she stuttered. Francis laughed and said, "You're still bashful as always~!"

"And you're romantic as always," Eclipse responded back.

The tango ended and another song came.

It became clear that people were switching. There were already a couple of people standing aside, especially after the tango song.

Moments later, a pair of students from either school started the final round. Suspiciously, the Saotome students slipped at some point and Ootori Academy turned out victorious as a result. The victorious crowd jeered at the students from Saotome Academy.

"You're weak!" They called out. The principals tried calming down the kids.

"Calm down, we're not done yet~!" Raging Ootori's voice boomed.

"We still have the next activity~!" Saotome roared.

"This final one will test your ability to work well in your bands and or circle of friends. You must use any means possible to obtain the secret items."

"The secret items?" Both students questioned.

"Correcto," Saotome said.

"Each side has a special item and we've already chosen two of the teachers to give it to, the rest holding plentiful notes to give clues to either side. Everyone must figure out who has a secret item and take it from them and place the two items together. This requires communication and possibly acting so you don't let on that you have the item to your opponents. There are otherwise little to no rules and you must find the items first and place them together in the place the teachers tell you to."

"You may begin," said Ootori, his glasses glinting in the light above him. The students have become scattered, looking for the teachers.

"Where do you think the teachers are?" Shay asks.

"I-I have no c-clue," said Shane.

"They weren't truly specific up to where the boundaries are," said Tokiya.

"You're right Ichi," said Ren.

"Wait! Maybe they're around the whole area, not just in here!" Musical exclaimed. Everyone saw the Ootori students running outside.

"Looks like they reached the same conclusion," said Francis.

"We should try to speak lowly so they don't figure stuff out with what we came up with," said Eclipse.

"Yeah, we don't want them to steal our ideas and cheat," said Moonlight.

"Alright, we should split into groups and find the items and text each other if we have anything, that way we don't let our opponents in on any information," said Taiyou.

"Are you sure those are within the rules?" Eclipse asked.

"They definitely said that there were little rules, so it's not like we are breaking any rules," said Masato.

"Let's go then!" Syo yelled. "We've wasted enough time as it is."

The group of Saotome kids split up into 2 groups.

"We shouldn't stray away from the group. In any case, if one should leave the group for a moment, they have to leave with someone else so that they aren't completely alone," said Taiyou.

"Let's go then," said Francis. His group consisted of Eclipse, Shane, Taiyou, Shay and Tokiya. The other group was Moonlight, Syo, Otoya, Natsuki, Musical and Masato.

From afar, the Heavens group eyed the three bands.

"Look at them go, so determined, how cute," Nagi said, sarcasm evident in his voice.

"Who cares? Let's just go and find the items ourselves before they get them," Yamato spat, moving away from the wall he was leaning on.

"I say we follow them in separate groups as well," Eiichi said, a smirk plastered on his face.

"What are we going to do brother?" Eiji asked. He looked at his brother for a few moments and at once the idea popped in his head.

"You don't mean to-"

"Remember, they said that we must use any means possible to obtain the secret items~," Eiichi interrupted the boy.

"We're going to have two groups as well. Nagi, Kira, and Yamato, you're with me. Van, I hope you will be able to take care of Shion and my little brother."

"B-But big brother," Eiji attempted to say.

"Quiet, you'll go with Van. I expect you to not act in any way that goes against our band," Eiichi declared with authority. Eiji sighed defeatedly.

"I'll text you if we find an item or find any clues," said Van while waving his phone. Eiichi nodded and looked in the direction that the girls and boys left in.

"Let's bring victory to our academy," stated Eiichi.

Wasn't that somewhat climactic? XD It's become a habit to create suspenses and that's probably not good for you peeps. I apologize for moving slowly, it's been hard trying to update properly ;-;. I'll try to write the next part quickly. I wonder what Heavens will do XD lol, I think I made them too diabolically cliche, it's become too pretentious, but there's a reason for that XD Hopefully I'll make them less pretentious and stereotypical. Till the next update~!
