For nball97 I hope you like it :)
"I am free," you say as you walk into your father's beach and surf shop. The one customer smiles in your direction as he puts his items, surfboard wax and a cold bottle of Coca-Cola, on the counter. You hear your father laugh.
"You think you're free," he says as he puts the price of the customer's items into the register.
"I am free," you say with a smile as you walk behind the counter, setting your backpack down. "School is officially out for summer and I can now surf my summer away." You had always loved surfing, ever since your father taught you when you were five. It seemed fitting that you would, your father owned a beach and surf shop at the beach.
"You are not going to spend your whole summer surfing," your father says before turning back to the customer. "That will be three twenty eight."
"Why not," you ask as the customer hands your father four crisp one dollar bills.
"Because I need your help here at the shop," he says as he opens the register to put the money in and get change for the man. "Summer is the busiest season for us."
You sign in relief. "I thought you were going to say something much worse," you say as you look back at your father with a smile. You loved working in the surf shop; you loved helping people find the surfboard that was the best for them as well as helping teach the occasional surfing lesson to tourists, who you knew would never surf again.
You hear your father chuckle as he closes the register and hand the man his change. "I'm glad that you are happy about working," he says. "When I was your age.." You playfully groan before your father can continue.
"I don't want to hear another "when I was your age" story," you say with a small, playful smile.
"That's fine," your father says. "I guess that means you will have to stay in and help me more since these "when I was your age" stories have a life lesson. And that means less time for you to surf."
The smile you had vanished as you saw your father smiling his big smile. "Please tell me that you're joking," you ask, which causes your father to start laughing.
"Of course I am," he says, causing you to smile. "Now go put your bag in the back and we will go get ice cream to celebrate your last day of school."
The smile on your face grows bigger. "Thanks dad," you say before grabbing your bag and rushing to the back. Once you set your bag down, you say to yourself, "This is going to be a good summer." You nod to yourself before turning and heading back out to where your father is.
*One week later*
"That will be six dollars and forty two cents," you say to the woman as you place the six pack of Coca-Cola into a brown bag. The woman hands you a ten dollar bill and you open the register, getting the woman change.
As you are getting the woman her change, you hear the shop door open. You couldn't seem to get a break; people had been flooding the shop all day. Your father was out teaching a surf lesson, so you were left to watch the shop. You always knew that summer was the busiest season, but that did not make it any easier.
You close the register once you have the woman's change. You hand her the change and hold the handles of the brown bag in your hand as she places the change in her purse. "Thank you," she says once the change is in her purse.
"I hope you have a great day," you say as you hand her the bag.
"You too," she says as she takes the bag and leaves.
You watch her leave and take in a deep breath. The most recent customers had been in the store for the lunch rush, buying bread, meat, cheese, and other sides so they could continue to stay on the beach instead of heading back to the house or hotel they were staying at. Thankfully, she was one of the last few customers from the rush, meaning that things would start slowing down a little.
As you wait for another customer to checkout, since there was still a few more people in the store, you heard the door open again. Looking the direction of the door, you feel your heart stop. You see a very attractive boy who looks to be around your age, maybe a year older, wearing a blue button up shirt with a pair of white shorts . He had short, curly brown hair, beautiful blue eyes and pale skin that was a lightest shade of pink from being in the sun maybe a tad too long. The boy looked in your direction and flashed you a smile, that caused your heart to speed up. You smiled back before he turned and walked down an aisle.
Once he was out of sight, you looked back at the register to try and get your mind focused back on work, but it didn't work. You felt your mind drift back to the attractive boy. He was very attractive, but he was probably like every other boy, arrogant and thinks that he can have any girl he wants because he looks good. Sighing, you decide to restock the Hershey bars that were at the register since there were only two more bars in the box.
You grab the box of bars that was behind the counter and walk out from behind the counter to the spot where all the candy was at the counter. You set the box on the ground before kneeling in front of the box to place the bars in their spot.
As you finished putting the last bar in the box, you smile and stand up. You brush the front of your f/c skirt before picking up the box and turning around. But once you turn around, you accidentally drop the box since it hit someone. "Oh my gosh, I am so sorry," you say as you look to see who the box hit. Once you see who it is, you instantly feel your cheeks heat up.
"Oh, it's my fault," the attractive boys says as he runs a hand through his hair. He has a small smile on his face as he looks at you. "I wasn't paying attention to where I was going."
You smile and then notice that all the bars that were in the box were now scattered all over the floor. "Oh crap," you say as you get on your knees and start picking up the bars to put back in the box.
"Let me help you," you hear the boy say as he sets the items he had in his hands down on a near by shelf before kneeling down next to you and helping you pick up the bars.
"You don't have to help me," you says as you continue to pick up the bars.
"I want to," he says as he continues to help. "I was the one who caused this."
You look over at him and see that he is looking at you with a smile. You smile back. "Well, I really appreciate the help....," you trail off as you place the last bar in the box.
Once the bar is in the box, you notice that the boy is already standing and offering you his hand. "Danny," he says with a smile. "And you are?"
"Y/n," you say as you take his hand. Danny then helped you stand. Once you are standing, you realize that the two of you are still holding hands. You feel your cheeks heat up a little as you look down at your hands. Danny notices where you are looking and releases your hand, making you a little sad, but you didn't show it.
"Well, thank you again for helping me pick up the bars and helping me stand up," you say as you pick up the box of bars.
"It was no problem," you hear Danny say as you walk behind the counter.
"I guess this means that I should give you a discount," you say in a joking manner as you set the box behind the counter.
You hear Danny laugh a little as you stand. "I don't think that will be necessary," he says as he walks over to the shelf where his items are. He picks them up and walks back over to the counter. "But I would like to learn more about this," he says, pointing to the paper that talks about surfing lessons once his items, which are a comb and sunscreen, are on the counter.
You smile as you start to type the prices on the register. "Well, there's not much to explain," you say. "You tell us what day and time you like to have the lesson at and then we teach you how to surf. A surf board is provided if you don't own one and the lesson is an hour and a half."
You see Danny nod. "And who does these lessons," he asks as he sets his arms on the counter.
You smile as you press the button on the register that gives you the total for his items. "Either me or my father, depending on the day," you answer before looking at the total. "And this will be four sixty five."
You watch as Danny reaches into his pocket to pull out his wallet. "And, if you don't mind me asking, which days do you teach," he asks as he pulls out five ones and hands them to you.
The blush that was on your cheeks earlier was coming back as you took the money from him. "I teach on Tuesday, Thursday, and during the morning on Saturday," you say as you get Danny his change.
"I see," you hear Danny say as you close the register. "And I could just tell you when I want a lesson?"
If you weren't already blushing, you definitely were now. "That's right," you say as you hand him his change. "Are you interested?"
You watch as Danny removes his arms from the counter before he stands up straight. "I actually am," he says as he puts the change in his pocket.
"Great," you say as you reach under the counter and pull out the book that held all the open and taken spots for surfing lessons. Friday and Saturday were already full, Tuesday and Wednesday each had two spots available, Thursday had two spots, Monday, which was today, had one spot left as well, and Sunday was the only day you did not do lessons. Your father used to do lessons on Sunday, but not many people went to them so your father eventually cut Sunday out. "Okay," you say once the book is open and a pen is in your hand. "What day would you like your lesson?"
"What time are the lessons tomorrow at," Danny asks.
You look at Tuesday and look at the available times. "Tomorrow, there is a three o' clock lesson and a five thirty lesson," you say as you look back at him.
"I think the five thirty lesson would work best for me," Danny says , smiling at you.
You smile back before writing Danny's name down on the line next to the five thirty time. "Okay, I have you down for five thirty tomorrow," you say as you look back at him.
"I can't wait," he says causing you to smile a little more. "So should I pay now or tomorrow?"
"Whichever would work for you," you say as you close the book and set it under the counter.
"I guess I'll pay now then," he says as you stand back up. "How much is the lesson?"
"The lesson will be thirty five dollars," you say as you type thirty five into the cash register and pressing the total button, causing it to open.
Danny pulls out the money and hands it to you. As you pull your hand away, you feel your fingers graze each other. You smile as you place the money in the register, closing it. That's when you see the original items that Danny bought are still on the counter. "Oh let me get you a bag," you say as you grab a small bag before putting the items in it. You grab the handles and hand him the bag.
Danny smiles at you as he reaches for the bag. His hand rests on yours for a moment before he gently takes the bag from you. "Thank you," he says. "And I will see you tomorrow for our surfing lesson."
"I will see you then," you say with a smile. "Have a good day."
"You too," Danny says with a wink before turning and opening the door of the shop.
"Oh honey, that boy seems to really like you," an older woman says as she places her items on the counter.
You can't help but feel your cheeks heat up after the woman says that. "I don't think so," you say as you begin to type the prices of the woman's items in the register before placing them in a bag. "We just met today."
The woman smiles. "Then that may be the reason why he asked for those surfing lessons then," she says. You look up at the woman to see that she is still smiling. And that is when you realize that she could possibly be right.
*The next day*
Your eyes never left the clock as you waited for Danny. It was 5:28; two minutes until his lesson. You were already dressed in your f/c bathing suit, but you had a cute white cover over your bathing suit since you were still in the store. But even though you appeared ready for the lesson, your heart was beating fast. You were nervous. You had no reason to be nervous; you had taught many surfing lessons in the past, but the thought of messing up during his lesson.....
The sound of the door opening pulled you from your thoughts. Looking away from the clock and towards the door, you see that it's Danny, wearing a pair of f/c swim trunks with a white t-shirt. Danny looks in your direction and smiles once his eyes met yours. He walks over to you as you smile back.
"Hi y/n," Danny says once he is in front of you.
"Hi Danny," you say with a smile, pleasantly surprised that he remembered your name. "Are you ready for your lesson?"
"I am," he says. "But, are there any special tips I should know before hand that will help?"
You smile a little. "As long as you follow my instructions, you should be fine," you say reassuringly. "Now, you need to pick out a surfboard before we can start the lesson. Follow me."
You turn and head out the door that leads out to where you keep all the surfboards. You hold the door open for Danny before you close it and turn back towards Danny. You look at him and guess that he is around, if not, six feet tall. You walk over to one rack that has surfboards on it. "Pick one of these boards," you say with a smile as you turn and look at him. "These will work best with your height."
"Alright," Danny says as he walks next to you and looks at the boards. "Now, if you don't mind me asking, why did you start surfing?"
You smile as you remember the day you started. "Well, my father had always loved surfing, mainly since he grew up on the beach. And once I was born, he wanted to reach me. So when I was old enough, maybe around ten, he began to teach me and I fell in love with it."
"And you've been surfing ever since," he asks as he looks at you.
You nod your head. "I have and have loved every minute of it," you say, smiling.
"Then I think I will enjoy it as well," Danny says before he turns back towards the rack and taking the surfboard that was white with two blue stripes going down the sides of the board.
"I'm sure you will," you say as you grab your own surfboard which is also white, but has one f/c stripe going down the middle of the board. "Now, let's head down to the beach so we can start your lesson."
The two of you then head down to the beach. The beach is almost completely deserted. There were a few people still around; a family was finishing a magnificent sandcastle and a few couples were holding hands as they walked along the beach, causing you to smile a little.
"Okay," you say as you set your surfboard down on the sand before turning towards Danny. "Before you go out into the ocean, I need to see how well you can do on the sand."
You see Danny look at you a little funny. "Why on the sand," he asks.
You smile a little as you walk over to him. "It's just to show you how to stand up on a surfboard and to see how good your balance is," you say.
"Oh okay," he says before he sets his boards down onto the sand. "What do I do first?" And with that, the surfing lesson started.
The lesson went better than expected. There were a few times where you had to either tell his to move up on the board or tell him to stand up faster, but other than that, he was great. You were about fifty minutes into the lesson when you decided that it would be a good time for him to go and try to surf in the water.
Danny seemed a little nervous. "You really think I'm ready," he asked once you told him.
You smiled. "Of course, I do," you say. "And this is the time of day when the waves are not big at all, they're perfect for your first lesson. And I'll be right here if anything does happen; you will be perfectly fine."
You see Danny take a deep breath. "Okay," he says. "I guess I can do I."
"You will do great," you say. "Just don't be nervous."
You see Danny smile again before nodding. "Alright, lets go surf," he says before he picks up the board and heads out into the water.
Smiling, you follow him until you get to the point where the waves hit the sand. You wanted to be close to the water so you could watch Danny, but also just in case something happened. You feel the water hit your feet as you watch Danny wait for a wave. You spot a small one around where Danny is and you can tell that he sees it too. You watch as he does everything he is supposed to do before he begins to stand on the board. You watch as he stands and smiles as he rides the wave perfectly to the shore.
You clap your hands once you see Danny climb off the board. "That was beautiful," you say once he's close to you.
The smile on Danny's face made your heart skip a beat. "That was so much fun," he says. "Am I allowed to go out again?"
You couldn't help, but laugh a little. "Of course you can," you say. "I only wanted to teach you the basics today, so the rest of the lesson can be you practicing them."
You watch Danny smile before he heads back out into the water again. You watch as he waits again. In the distance, you notice a larger than usual wave, but shake it off since those waves usually end up being smaller than usual. You see Danny notice it and sigh a little, "He is going to be disappointed," you think, but let him continue. But as Danny starts to climb onto the board, you notice that the wave was becoming bigger than expected. You began to get nervous as the wave continued to get bigger and that's when it happened.
As Danny climbed onto the board, you noticed his front foot was turned a little to the right, which instantly raised a red flag in your mind. You hoped he would move it back, but he didn't. You watched as Danny continued to surf, but then you watched as he right foot slipped on the board causing him to fall off the board and into the water.
You feel your heart stop once you see him fall off his board. "Danny," you scream as you quickly take your white cover-up off and sprint into the water. Once deep enough, you start swimming as fast as you can over to him. Soon, you are next to him. You quickly flip him onto his back so he can breathe before you wrap an arm around his waist and swim back to shore with him.
Once back at the shore, you pull him away from the waves and onto the sand. You quickly check to see if he's breathing; he isn't. Thankfully, your dad taught your CPR in case a situation like this ever happened. You begin to press down on his chest and, after a few presses, you press your lips to his as you blow air into his lungs. You pull away and press down on his chest again.
Danny's eyes shoot open as he sits up and coughs, a little water coming out of his mouth. You sigh in relief as you hurriedly move to his side and help him sit up all the way. "Are you okay," you ask, worry apparent in your voice. "I mean, do you need anything or end the les-"
"I'm alright," he says, cutting you off. "But, I might need to hear your instructions again."
You laugh a little before you put your hands on his cheeks and gently press your lips to his. You feel Danny's lips curl into a smile as his arms wrap around you, pulling you closer. The kiss was everything someone could want; it was sweet, but it was also full of a feeling you couldn't explain. You don't know why you decided to kiss him, but you were glad you did.
When the two of you pulled away, you see Danny smiling. "You know," he says. "I was nervous about this lesson because I wanted to ask you out on a date after." A smile forms on your face as Danny continues. "So f/n, would you like to go on a date with me?"
"I would love to," you say, a smile still on your face.
