Newsies

[A/N: I used Wheel Decide to choose this request and I will keep using it. Yes, you CAN resubmit requests each week.]

Me: Hey, guys! Wow, it seems like so long since we last had an official episode... even though it was maybe a week.

Usnavi: Yeah... we DID have a great Thanksgiving break though.

Veronica: Yep!

Angelica: Well, now, it's time for Christmas!

Me: Okay, so today's winning request was by Random_nerd4

Benny: Oh! Newsies! I've heard of that one.

Me: Yep, it's about the newsboy strike of 1899 in New York.

J.D.: So ninety years before 1989.

Me: Yep! Let's listen to the soundtrack!

[Timeskip to "Santa Fe (Prologue)"]

Me: Heh... there is a song from Rent that's also called "Santa Fe".

Philip: So what's this song about?

Me: This introduces us to the main character Jack and his friend Crutchie and how they want to move to Santa Fe. They are selling newspapers in New York.

[Timeskip to "Carrying the Banner"]

Nina: Oh, so this song shows up the newsboys' daily lives...

Veronica: They might not have much, but they seem content.

Hamilton: Hey! No making fun of orphans!

Burr: It seems like a hard life, not getting paid much, they're orphans...

Jefferson: Yeah...

[Timeskip to "The Bottom Line"]

Peggy: Wait... Pulitzer's RAISING THE PRICE OF THE PAPERS?!

Philip: What exactly does that mean?

Eliza: The newsboys have to pay for the papers to sell them, but if the prices go up, that's not good...

J.D.: That ba-

Veronica: (Cuts him off) Hey! This is a PG show!

Daniela: He DOES seem greedy...

Catherine of Aragon: You said it.

[Timeskip to "That's Rich"]

Katherine Howard: So... Medda Larkin... is bragging about her promiscuity and wealth?

Me: Yeah, she's actually based of a vaudeville performer.

[Timeskip to "I Never Planned On You/Don't Come A-Knocking"]

Jefferson: Ha! "Please go away, I'm working" is sooooo Hamilton!

Hamilton: And? You got a problem with that?

Vanessa: Wait... two songs are happening at once?

Me: Yep! One is Jack trying to talk to Katherine, and the other one is the Bowery Beauties performing.

[Timeskip to "The World Will Know"]

J.D.: Pulitzer ACUTALLY raised the prices...

Usnavi: Ugh...

Me: Yep, and the newsboys are upset, and Jack is rallying them.

Hamilton: Yeah! You gotta rise up from UNFAIR TAXES!

King George: (to Hamilton) Hey! Just what are you insinuating?

[Timeskip to "Watch What Happens"]

Parr: Wow! It's great of Katherine to try to write about this for the paper! Another female writer!

Angelica: Her job previously was to review shows, but it's great that she wants to move into serious matters like this.

Hamilton: But it looks like words are failing her...

[Timeskip to "Seize the Day"]

Me: Ooh! This is a pretty well known musical-theater song.

Laurens: Yeah, guys! SEIZE THE DAY AND RISE UP!

The Hamilsquad: YEAH!

Madison: I'm actually curious as to what comes next for them.

King George: Hey! That's my line!

[Timeskip to "Santa Fe"]

Me: Okay, just out of curiosity, what's with New Yorkers singing about wanting to move to Santa Fe? First it's Collins, Roger, Mark, and Angel, and now Jack and Crutchie?

Carla: Technically, it's Jack and Crutchie first... because they were alive before them.

Me: True...

[Timeskip to "King of New York"]

Jane Seymour: Oh, no! The protest failed?

Nina: Well, Katherine DID get coverage for her newspaper...

Anna of Cleves: And they are fantasizing about getting famous!

Usnavi: This reminds me of when the barrio got crazy when I found out I sold that ticket worth $96000.

Benny: Yeah, it has the same vibe.

[Timeskip to "Watch What Happens (Reprise)" (Note: I'm using the Broadway recording)]

Jefferson: (Scrunches his face) "Dszahdh" [A/N: No, not a typo, nor did I just press my hands on my keyboard.]? What's that?

Madison: Beats me.

Laurens: Come on, they can't give up now!

Anne Boleyn: They should keep on going!

[Timeskip to "The Bottom Line (Reprise)"]

Laurens: Ugh! It's that Pulitzer guy again!

J.D.: I know, right?

Anne Boleyn: Yeah, and the deal Jack gets is a really bad one.

Me: Quit and get enough money to go to Santa Fe or keep going and get locked up... that IS a REALLY bad deal.

[Timeskip to "Brooklyn's Here"]

Anna of Cleves: Yay! Jack is gonna get reinforcements!

Me: Yep. Jack is part of the Manhattan newsboys, and their Brooklyn counterparts are going to help them with the strike.

[Timeskip to "Something To Believe In"]

Carla: Aww! It's a love duet!

Sonny: Jack and Katherine are a good match!

Heather D.: This is just cheesy.

Everyone: SHUT UP, HEATHER!

[Timeskip to "Once And For All"]

Heather M.: So they made their own newspaper?

Me: Yep!

Heather C.: Ha! Looks like the protest didn't do ANYTHING!

Me: (Gives Heather a death glare)

[Timeskip to "Finale"]

Heather M.: No! Don't leave, Jack!

Sonny: Awww, and Jack and Katherine are official!

Madison: Oh, and other songs are revisited!

[After the finale]

Me: So, how did everyone like Newsies!

Angelica: It was very interesting to hear what happened after our generation.

Veronica: Yeah, I remember learning about the Newsboys Strike in history class.

Heather C.: Oh, I remember... that was a boring class...

Usnavi: Yeah, it was a very good historical musical, and it reminded me of my own experiences in the barrio... all of us, too.

Katherine Howard: Yeah! I especially loved the music and Jack and Katherine's relationship.

Me: I'm glad you guys liked it! Okay, that's all for today! Feel free to comment and leave requests, and I'll put them in the wheel! See you guys next time! Bye!!

Everyone: Bye!
