Safe and Sound
This one-shot was inspired by the song "Safe and Sound" by Taylor swift
Norway plopped down on the bed and Denmark plopped down beside her. The house was broken and trashed, just like every other house in the ransacked town. Chairs and other furniture was scattered around the room, burnt and broken. The dining room table was over turned and broken dish shards were scattered across the floor along with other broken things, toys, mirrors, jewelry and dolls, tons of dolls and Norway recognized every single one. The house looked the same as every house on the street, neighborhood and even city. It might be just another house to the government but to both Norway and Denmark it was different, it was Norway's house, Norway's furniture, Norway's jewelry and Norway's dolls.
"I hate this!" Norway spat. She wasn't built for war and nothing could change that.
"I know," Denmark spoke softly as he wrapped her up into a blanket. Against everything else they had gone through, ashes, hail and bloody death, Norway's blonde hair laid untouched, it cascaded down her back with her bangs hiding her right eye and her hair on the left side of her face was clipped back with her Norwegian cross clip. Denmark drew her into a hug. Norway didn't mind, she was cold and Denmark was warm; he comforted her. She started to cry. "Don't worry I'm still here and I won't ever go," Denmark reminded her.
"Takk," Norway replied.
Crack! Boom!
Norway shot up. "What's outside?"
"I'll check." Denmark got up from the bed and went to the slightly singed curtains. As he drew them back he was caught with shock.
"What? What is it?" Norway asked
"Nothing." Denmark shook his head causing his gravity defying, blonde hair to bounce.
"Come on let me see." Norway got up of the bed and walked over to the window and drew the curtains aside, but Denmark cover her eyes before she could see it. He didn't want her to see it.
The country side was a flame.
Norway cried into Denmark's hand even as he continued to cover her eyes.
"It's burning isn't it?" Denmark didn't answer her. "I know it's burning Denmark, don't lie to me! I've seen it before; I can handle it now."
"No, no you can't," Denmark replied softly.
"Yes I can!" She yelled back even as tears came from her eyes. The war had changed them both and now Norway didn't care how close Denmark was to her. She needed him.
Still covering her eyes, Denmark pulled Norway away from the window. He sat on the bed pulled Norway into his lap and allowed her to cry into his shoulder. He started to softly sing a Norwegian lullaby that he had heard Norway sing so often.
"Takk," Norway said again. The song allowed her to calm down and remember the peacefulness that both of them had once shared. After everything that the world forgot, the music, the sunshine and even kindness, this song still remained for them and they would hold on to it until the end of time, until they died, until never happened and until they couldn't sing it any more.
"We'll be safe," Denmark promised and then fell asleep.
A/N: Hey ya'll this is Mags and I am the owner of this account. Me and my friend Izzy will both write one-shots. Mine will be more about anime and hers will be more about youtubers and R5. Tell us how we did and if we messed up on anything. Also this is our first fanfiction so don't judge to harshly. Request songs and people we should do our one-shots on. Warning: some later one-shots may contain yaoi and colorful language.
- Takk means thanks or thank you in Norwegian
