"I will not take the part!"

Christine

The four of us sat in Mr. Ryans office. I resided on the couch in order to prop my leg up. Alyssa and Mckenna sat on either side. The director sat at his desk, looking quite agitated and concerned.

"Now, let's discuss this note business," he held up the note.

Alyssa immediately stood up. "It was her. That sneaky little toad!" she accused me.

I shook my head. "I didn't do it!"

"Don't play that innocent game with me. I know you are the Phantom!" she grabbed my arm.

Mckenna pulled her off of me. "Hey! Stop accusing her! We know she didn't do it. When the Phantom showed up, she was in a wheelchair. What could she have possibly done in the condition she was in?"

Alyssa looked rather embarrassed, seeing she was wrong. "Well, it is someone in this room."

Mr. Ryan took a long deep breath, turning to me. "Now Christine, did you or did you not write this note?"

"No. I did not write that note. I can't even write in cursive that well due to my dyslexia," I explained. "I can't even read it."

He thought about this for a moment. "Do you know anyone who might be behind this note, or have this writing?"

I pondered this question for a moment. There were still scenes of my past missing due to the fire incident. "I don't know. I'm sure I have seen it somewhere. But, there are still pieces of my memory missing."

He nodded in understanding. "Well, obviously whoever wrote this note wants you to play the part of Cinderella."

Alyssa stood up once again. "NO! That is my role! No Phantom is going to make me give up my role!"

"Alyssa," shouted Mr. Ryan, "This is not entirely your decision. Mckenna has a say in this matter as well."

She scoffed, letting out an obnoxious cackle. "Her? She is just an understudy. Since when does she get a say?"

How I wanted to tell her off. However, it was against my better judgement. "Alyssa, let her speak."

Mckenna took a deep breath. "Well, I don't know. But, whoever this Phantom is, we don't know what he is capable of. He dropped a large sandbag right next to Alyssa. It nearly hit her."

Mr. Ryan took this into consideration. "Yes, this it true. Well, Christine, we may have to put you in as the role of Cinderella."

Alyssa broke out into a raged tone. "WHAT! NO! Cinderella is my role! This is unacceptable!"

"Please let me speak," I shouted over her. "I don't want the role. I didn't audition for the play, therefore it is unfair for me to take the role."

Mckenna gave me a shocked expression. "What? You're not accepting the role? Why not?"

"Because it is not mine to take. I don't just take roles. I work for them. Therefore, I will not take the role. Besides, it's not fair to either of you."

The room was silent after my say in the matter. No one had anything to say. Alyssa was satisfied, as was Mckenna, I think. Mr. Ryan was still worried about my decision.

"If that is what you decided, Christine."

"No Phantom is going to force me to take a role I did not receive."

We left the office and proceeded to the stage. Everyone crowded around, hoping to hear some news.

I stepped forward. "I am not taking the role of Cinderella. Alyssa and Mckenna remain as they are. As do I."

All were disappointed, but accepted it in no time. I proceeded to my work station, getting back to work on other costumes besides Alyssa's. The orchestra began and the dancing commenced. Everyone was doing great, except for Alyssa.

Rehearsal ended, and what a relief it was. Raoul drove me home while the rest of the gang went home. Victor lead me up to my penthouse.

"So, how was rehearsal Ms. Daae?" he asked.

"Strange. Many things happened today. But, I don't wish to discuss it," I explained, adjusting my crutches.

"Oh another thing," he added. "Someone left you something, and asked me to leave it in your penthouse. It's the same guy."

My suspicion was aroused. "Same guy? Who's the guy? I don't know what you're talking about."

"Oh right. Your memory is still whoozy. Well, a dude has been leaving you notes and gifts all the time. He left another one."

I took that into consideration, hoping I could remember that. "Right. Duh, I should have known that. Even though I don't."

"Have a good night Christine," he called as I exited the elevator.

"Bonne vainqueur de nuit merci beaucoup," I replied as he returned to the lobby.

At last I was home. I hated walking around on crutches all day. I still remember the pain I suffered under my arms. On my table, a red rose with a ribbon tied around the stem sat. My brow furrowed in confusion. Something as lovely as this was familiar. Though the vision was blurry, I did remember something with a rose. A note came with it.
Christine Daae,
You have refused to play the role of Cinderella. There will be consequences for your actions.
O.G.

It was a note from whoever was playing this Phantom character. I shook my head, crumbling up the ridiculous note.

"Bêtises. Je ne crains pas d'un fantôme. No phantom will scare me."

For hours I stayed up, catching up on my homework and eating dinner. I even finished a few orders of ball gowns. My personal tailor was helping me out. The whole night I was nearly up. I took a few naps every few hours, but not long ones.

There was so much homework I needed to finish, and so much for the show I still needed to do. It was finished around three in the morning. Gee, I was tired. So, for the remainder of the morning, I attempted walking on my knee without my crutches. It was painful, but the pain lessened the more I walked. It suddenly occurred to me what was going to happen at rehearsal.
