3. Union of Hearts

(Originally titled 'Union of Hearts- Doc meets Author')

The digital clock on the stark white wall blared a flat tone as it displayed 7:00 p.m.

Cayanne sat on her favourite chair, taking a break after writing 400 pages on her newest project, 'The Langer- Longman Mystery'. As she relaxed, thinking of suitable ways to helm her story, she had an urge to speak to Angela.

The powerful urge propelled her to pick up her phone and look for Angela's contact. She called Angela, who had reached home at 6:00 p.m. and sat watching TV.

"Hello. This is Dr. Angela Varnier speaking."

The very voice seemed to send jitters down her spine as Cayanne was overcome by joy. Forcing back hysteria, she spoke into the phone.

"Hi. I'm Cayanne RS."

So many things she could say. Yet she couldn't articulate anything more than that. She tried to shove the words out her throat until Angela spoke again.

"I- Wait a second... Cayanne?" Angela exclaimed, drawling out the caller's name in what was clearly a voice dripping affection.

"Yeah, babydoll, it's me. How's life?"

Cayanne surprised herself as she spoke out. A strange sense of deja vu overtook Angela.

"Nice. But I feel something ominous is gonna happen..."

"That's probably nonsense." Cayanne was quick to wave away her thoughts but, deep inside, she felt a sense of eerie terror.

"Okay, maybe... So how's your famous life, Pandora Ramen?" Angela quickly changed the subject, not wanting to upset Cayanne. The last time she'd done something of the sort had ended in a grisly spectacle which was the standout consequence.

"It's awesome!" Cayanne blurted out, glad to have skirted around a topic that fazed her. She didn't want to have a repeat of what had happened the last time, especially since she was alone. Her previously hunched shoulders now smoothened back as she visibly relaxed.

"Of course! I heard you're working on a new book!" Angela said the first thing that came to her mind.

"Yeah, I am, Angela, I am. It's called 'The Langer-Longman Mystery'. Oh, and one more thing. Guess what?"

"You're getting married?" Angela smirked as she remembered the mortified expression that Cayanne displayed on her face everytime someone asked her about marriage.

"No. I'm in no rush to get married. Besides, I'm still 22."

Where in the universe was her Mr. Right? She wouldn't go hunting him down. If he came, he'd come in his own. And if he was a she, then so it would be.

"So?"

"Let's get back to the point, Angela, I have only 4 more pages to write!"

"That's so cool! I am your biggest fan and an avid reader of your novels, too, Pandora Ramen!"

"Thanks, Dr. Varnier! Hey, what do you say we meet at 8:00 p.m., next Saturday at the mall, near the parking lot entrance?"

"The mall?"

"Yes, our mall, Angela!"

"Sure, Cayanne. Ok, bye."

"Goodbye, Angela."

Cayanne called Marna and Syndi, too, and asked them to meet her at the mall at 8:00 p.m., the following Saturday.

"Isn't it gonna be amazing! After 5 years! Yeah!" thought Cayanne as she fist pumped the air four times.
