2. Cayanne Speaks- I

Scanning my palm for any signs of dirt, I got the overwhelming urge to call Angela.

I involuntarily smiled as the memories came rushing, gushing and bustling into my mind.

Marina, Angela, Sydney and I were quite close back in high school. Numerous memories of all the mischief Marina and I'd do, and Sydney and Angela would laugh at us, popped into my mind. I made sure to remember how everyone is at least once every week so I don't get unfamiliar. Jobless, wasn't I?

Marina (whom we all called Marna) was a fair and beautiful bespectacled girl. She had such beautiful hands! Her hands were always in someone else's as everyone was too busy admiring them!

She was like our own lovely Polack, our own lovely idiot! Her blonde hair was the

Moving on to Sydney...

Sydney (fondly called Syndi) was a lovely and fair girl. She was the CLASS MONITOR! Okey-dokey, just because I turned down the offer our class teacher made to me to be CM (I was actually happy when I did that)...

Anyway, Sydney was kind of like a vice-queen bee. Madelyn Sherman snagged the 'Queen Bee' title. Sydney's well styled light auburn hair was the object of obsession for Marna, who always dreamt of dyeing her black hair a light reddish orange. Finally, Angela...

Angela (no nickname as good as Angela) was a dusky and beautiful gal. She wanted to become an actress or singer actually, but assumed that she wouldn't ever be successful since she was neither fair nor a good singer, and lost hope in it. We grew up pretty much idolising lighter complexions. Now that we actually understand ourselves and better, Angela is quite proud of her complexion.

Needless to say, I was attracted to her like a firefly to a lamp, like a planet to a star. But, I wasn't the only one.

Angela, with her endearing attitude and behaviour was the one whom most of us orbited and became a satellite of. It didn't help any less that she had gorgeous blonde tresses that flowed down her back when she let her hair down and were nearly everyone's envy.

We were all together till we finished our schooling, and then went our separate ways. We still kept in touch though.

Syndi studied astronomy, Marna biological sciences, Angela medicine and then specialized in cardiology and I studied Eng. Lit. We all got the job of our dreams; eventually, we lost touch due to hectic and busy schedules...

Syndi worked for NASA, Marna built her own bio lab, Angela worked for a reputed specialty hospital, Cardiac+.

As for me? Well, what had started as a part-time hobby writing newspaper columns in a gamut of newspapers had turned me into a full-time writer. I released a new novel every year and plenty of short stories in between. I still wrote for newspapers and magazines, seeing that I didn't want to lose sight of my roots.

We were all happy placed where we were, but felt a small cavity grow into a deep void, gnawing into our peace. Then, all of a sudden, our world caved in on us; and it was then that we got together and destroyed the void, hand in hand, together.

A.N.:

I do agree that some parts of this story seem quite unrealistic...

Let me know what you think!
