1. Prologue
"Good morning, Ma'am!" rang out the chorus of excited schoolchildren who felt both eager and sad about coming to school.
"Good morning, children," the thirty-something teacher gestured the children to sit down as her books clattered into their usual place on her table.
Marilyn Gordon, her name tag read.
When the students settled down, she continued, "Today, we have someone from Dreams Galore, a counseling company."
This announcement set forth a flurry of activity among the children, whose immediate reaction resembled the action of a single drop dripping onto still water and bringing forth ripples.
A girl sitting in the third desk in the middle row whispered to the girl next to her, "You feel like some counseling, Syndi?"
"Nah, I feel like sleeping," she heard a voice whispering behind her.
Turning around, she glared at the speaker who shrugged and indicated the girl who sat diagonally behind the first.
Turning back front, she raised her eyebrow at the girl whom she spoke to earlier.
"I think it'll be fun!" said the girl, twirling a strand of her light auburn hair about her index digit.
"Sydney, do you have any sense?" responded she, unable to restrain her voice from booming.
"Cayanne!" yelled the teacher.
Startled, she stood up. "Yes, ma'am?"
"Don't yell!" came the reply.
"Sorry ma'am."
She gave the teacher an apologetic look as she sat down.
Muffled laughter cut into her thoughts. Irked by this sound, she scribbled a note on a piece of paper torn from the last page of her notebook and threw it to the girl diagonally behind her.
The girl unfolded the paper and laughed even more upon reading the note.
Curious, the girl next to her snatched the note away from her and smiled when she read the note, 'Marina, please do SHUT UP'
"Typical Cayanne..." she thought as she refolded the paper and aimed it at the dustbin across the room. Perfect shot, as always. A boy on the other side of her noticed and mock applauded while she took a bow.
Just then, a slim woman walked in. Looking to be about twenty six, she had her waist-length blonde hair in a tight plait.
"Good morning, children. I'm Mikaela Skott, from DreamsGalore. I'd like you all to tell me your ambitions," she gushed, seemingly elated to be there.
Pointing at a girl in the first bench next to the door, she said, "Why don't we start with you? Tell your name, and your ambition. Go on."
Standing up, she smoothened back her obsidian locks as she said, "I'm Idina Specter. I want to be a fashion designer."
'Yeah, she's going to make it, this aspiring fashionista,' thought Cayanne.
The four were deep in thought. Cayanne heard only two more replies, as she was busy thinking. Then it was her turn.
"I'm Cayanne RS, and my ambition is to become an author," she spoke, loud and clear. She seemed happy to want this, and seemed like she would do anything for this.
"I'm Sydney KS. I want to be an astronaut," said the girl seated next to Cayanne, her eyes starry when she remembered her astronomical dreams.
"I'm Marina M Ray. I want to be a biological scientist," said the girl behind Sydney, finally over her fit of laughter.
"I'm Angela Varnier, and my ambition is to become a cardiologist," articulated the blonde next to Marina, unaware of all the heart strings she could pull...
