Right on Time - Skyward! Link x Reader
You looked on dreamily, watching as your crush flew around lazily on his scarlet Loftwing. Even though the rider was relaxed, you knew his blue eye were on the look out. He was the best of the best out of all the sky knights. This sky knight, was none other than Link.
You and Link had gotten along very well while in the academy. You could relate when it came to Groose being a total jerk. You both enjoyed lazy flying, sleeping in, laying back and all of the pass time of the good old days. Through thick and thin, the two of you stuck together...and found yourself crushing on the dirty blonde.
On the day of the test, you had been unable to make it, due to coming down with a cold. You made Link promise that he would win so that way Groose would have to bow down. He had come back to you, for a little bit, to boast about his winning. From the over dramatics of getting hit with eggs to getting a hold of the special statue, then the near death experience when Zelda shoved him off of Hylia's statue.
Of course, you grew a little bitter at the mention of the headmaster's daughter. You and Zelda were actually good friends. In fact, she had confessed to you about her crush on Link. That made you realize something important.
You could never stand a chance.
Zelda was beautiful, talented, smart and hard working. She was the headmaster's daughter. While you never said it to her face, you thought her the slightest bit spoiled. She got everything she wanted. And in your mind, that also meant the boy you liked too.
After her disappearance, you saw your crush less and less and Groose more and more. (Apparently, with Zelda's disappearance, he suddenly found you the prettiest girl in Skyloft. Goes to show how loyal he was.) You always pushed him aside. It was a force of hand to get you to find better hiding spots. In fact, you had mastered the art of escaping Groose before he could even take in your presence.
When Link was around though, he would brush you off. He had something important to do. He was on a mission. He was traveling too and from the surface he had told you. He had promised he would get Zelda back... And it broke your heart.
You definitely wanted Zelda to return safe and sound. (You were not that cruel). You just wished he would do that for you. You were practically useless during that time. Groose even got to join the adventure, but you were too afraid. You were too afraid to get your heart broken. So you remained on Skyloft. Wishing you were brave enough to lend and hand and risk that broken heart. But you knew, deep down, you would be rendered useless if Link rejected your feelings. It would hurt too much.
Now that Skyloft was on the surface, you spent your time climbing trees, finding new hiding spots and whatever else came to mind. And as of the moment, you were sitting with your (f/c) Loftwing, (L/n), watching as your crush patrolled the skies.
"Hey, (y/n)!"
You had to roll your eyes, "Hello, Groose."
"Awe! You're not happy to see me?" He ran a hand through his hair, "Even after I saved the world?"
"You may have helped, but Link saved us, not you," was your counter.
"Please! I can run circles around him!"
"Last I checked, every time we had to go laps around Skyloft, you suddenly got sick!"
He sputtered, "T-that's not true!"
(L/n) screeched at him and you laughed, "See! (L/n) knows what I'm talking about."
"Your bird is just ruffled feathers! You should ride on my Loftwing sometime."
"Pass!"
"Come on, (y/n)." For once in his life, Groose looked desperate, "Go on a date with me!"
"ABSOLUTELY NOT!" You stood and pointed at him, "All you've done is bully me and the moment Zelda is gone, you suddenly think I'm the goddess Hylia herself! I'm not a toy! I'm not going to be used. Especially not by you!"
A new voice joined in the conversation, "Is something wrong here?"
Low and behold, it was Link! He looked as handsome as ever in the sky knight uniform, wind blown hair and blue eyes as bright as ever. You blushed in embarrassment. This was just a great time for him to come to your aid. You knew he was usually late. For once he was early, and you wished he was not there.
"Oh! Hey Link!" Groose put an arm around your shoulder, "My girlfriend and I were just having a little fight. Nothing to worry about."
Your loftwing squawked at the same time as you screeched, "GIRLFRIEND!!!"
Even Link raised a brow, "Girlfriend? Since when are the two of you dating?"
You could tell by the tone of his voice he was angry. But at the same time, he looked a little hurt.
Before you could speak up, Groose spoke up again, "Yeah! (n/n) and I were just talking about when we'd fly on my loftwing together."
You were beginning to seethe, "Groose, I-"
"But as you can see, everything is going alright."
"Goose, just-"
"Now, if you excuse us. We-"
"SHUT UP!!!" You turned an punched him in the jaw, "I NEVER SID I WOULD BE YOUR GIRLFRIEND AND I NEVER WILL! SO JUST GIVE UP AND LEAVE ME ALONE!"
You hopped onto (L/n) and took off before either on of the boys could stop you. You were angry and the best part was that Link had been there to see it! This day was just going swell!
The wind tossed you (h/l) (h/c) around. Your (e/c) began to fill up with tears. It was not fair. Why did you get tossed to Groose while Zelda got the sweetest boy in all of Skyloft? Why could you not be blessed like she was? Maybe if you were prettier, or smarter, or richer, or anything, then Link would have like you more?
You buried your face in (L/n)'s (f/c) feathers. It cooed in concern, but you just laughed bitterly.
"It's not fair, (L/n). It's not fair."
"Do you want company?"
You shot up, your (e/c) quickly met that beautiful blue. Link was riding his scarlet loft wing beside you. Hid face was full of concern. You blushed. He probably came after you because you were friends. But even this moment was enough for you.
You rubbed the tears away, "It couldn't hurt..."
He tilted his head, adding to his attractiveness, "Do you want to talk about it?"
"No..."
He nodded, seemingly disappointed, "Alright... Let's just fly around then."
Suddenly, everything was like before. The two of you were together, flying in no particular pattern or for any reason. The wind threw your hair around. The two loftwings seemed to chat like old friends. For that moment, everything was as it should have been.
It was nearly dark by the time the two of you landed. You had to run your hands through your (h/c) to get the knots out and flatten it again.
Link smiled, "You need help with that?"
"I got it," you grinned, "remember the last time you tired to help?"
He blushed, "I didn't mean to tangle it more."
There was a pause and the tow of you laughed. It was just like old time. But shortly, you'd be left to suffer again.
Link spoke up, startling you with the serious tone, "(y/n) I have something important to tell you."
You blinked, "Uh.... Okay?"
"...I..." He was quiet for a few seconds as his face turned red, "I...love you."
He said what?
Did he just?
HUH?!
The dirty blonde took both of your hands in his, "(y/n), I love you. All of my time on the surface made me miss you. I realized that and I had to be near you, but my mission to save Zelda kept me away from you. I missed your voice, your laugh, your (h/l) (h/c), your (e/c) eyes... It made me think about how much... It made me realize that I..."
You finished the sentence softly, "You love me?"
"Yeah."
"You..." You were trying to find the words, "You...missed me? What about Zelda? What about-"
"Zelda is just a friend and between you and me," he whispered the last part, "she's kind of pushy."
You laughed, "I guess so."
"So, (y/n), will you be my girlfriend?"
You grinned, "Absolutely!"
And suddenly, his lips found yours. You squeaked in surprise, but quickly melted. It was all a dream some true! He loved you! Link really loved you!
Someone screamed and the two of you parted to see Groose with his mouth wide open.
"(y-y/n)?! What are you doing," the red haired male demanded.
"Kissing my boyfriend," you asked innocently.
Your newly found boyfriend nodded, "Yeah, and I'm kissing my girlfriend."
The two of you locked lips again, chasing the narcissist off. It was kind of nice to hear the big guy cry over losing you to Link...not that your were his in the first place.
You smiled brightly, "I'd say that was perfect timing."
"Yep," he placed a kiss on your forehead, "right on time."
