You were soaked. Yep. That kinda comes with the fact that you chose to literally sit in the middle of Faron Spring. You had needed time alone, and most importantly, away from the village. Ever since you had been relieved of your duties, the Hero of Time, also know as Link, had invited you to live in his home village of Ordon.
Now, what duties had you been relieved of? It was your commitment as a Ranger to Princess Zelda. Rangers were Hyrule's super secret service. It had been your job, along with some of your old companions to travel and spy, investigate, etc. etc. for Zelda, under her command or if you had discovered something of major importance. Ranger's were so hidden, they were a "myth" used to scare children or even as a threat... You had heard that somewhere and even wondered why that was.
When you met Link, you were in Kakariko Village, trying to assist with the major, shadow monster problem.
You and your, now deceased, father figure had discovered troubles in the desert and tried to make your escape and warn Zelda. Your father figure was killed by a stray arrow from the Bublin archers. And you... You were too late. The Twilight barrier had already been erected around the castle. The Bublins had stolen your horse and your last ditch effort had been to confront Lanayru.
Again, you were too late, those beasts came in before you could even demand an answer. In Lanayru's final moment's he transported you to Eldin. You had fainted, but the shaman of the village and his daughter cared for you and a bunch of other kids from a remote village called Ordin.
When you first laid eyes on Link, you dismissed him as another wannabe hero. But as it turned out, the kids from Ordin told you how he was the best in the village. You still refused to believe them...until he went into the FRIKING VOLCANO and somehow restored the peace between humans and gorons...
You demanded his motives. Questioned him. Who was he? What did he want? Why was he doing all of this? And that was how you met a little imp named Midna, who had gotten annoyed an tired of your obsessive questioning. She was also the reason you found out that Link was the Hero of Time.
You begged to join him on his adventure. You felt you had to redeem yourself. Not only had your father figure died, but you had failed in warning your princess. You had failed Hyrule and lost a dear friend in the process.
You did your best to help out in the temples. The only place you could not assist was the City in the Sky. In the end, you were forced to miss the final battle...well, Link begged you to stay behind with the Resistance. You agreed, only because deep down, you knew that this final battle was probably not to be witnessed by those not blessed by the gods.
Since everything was restored, you just kinda followed Link like a lost puppy. You wanted to keep exploring the world. At the same time, you were ready to finally settle down. Maybe even start a family with a certain someone. But your feelings and thoughts were a big jumble of whats, ifs, whys and maybes.
Considering you had traveled all the way to Ordin Village, just to be able to say you'd seen it, and on Link's invite, you decided to explore Faron woods as well. And that's what led you to Faron Spring. Fairies danced about, laughing and playing little games. Some even used you as an obstacle to get away from the others in a game of chase.
All of the peace pulled literal weight off your body. At the same time, it felt all too weird.
"Hey there."
...He just had to be the one to find you, didn't he?
Link was still dressed in his tunic from all of your adventures. The master sword was gone and so was his sarcastic shadow. But he still had those wild, blue eyes and that messy, dirty blonde hair that might as well have been a bed head. He sat next to you and joined in watching the fairies dance about.
"Is there something on your mind," Link asked you.
"Yeah," you admitted. "It's wonderful Ganon is gone. It's a relief to know I've finally accomplished what I set out to do. But now that Zelda's excused me from my duties as a ranger... I don't know what to do with myself."
"I know what you mean." He watched the water thoughtfully, "I never expected to be the chosen hero. Before all of this, I was just a ranch herder and played with the kids, sometimes even fished... But now that I've seen the world I want to see what else is there. All the same, I have this feeling that's nagging me to stay with the girl I fell in love with."
It HAD to be Illia. She was short and cute with emeralds for eyes. She loved horses and there was no way she could hide her crush on Link. The two of you had become good friends and she had confronted you about her feelings. You had honestly told her to be patient. With his plate full with helping the resistance take back Hyrule, love was the last thing on his mind. Maybe when it was all over, she could try.
You wanted him though. Link had been so kind, not only to you, but those around him. He played with the kids from his village; he took on each task given to him with a smile. Topping it all off, HE SAVED THE WHOLE FRICKIN WORLD. A guy who could pull that off and stay humble about his abilities as a fighter was kind of hot. Like... REALLY hot.
"It sucks to be in love," you blurted. "All you do is mope around with a stupid smile on your face. That person is just stuck in your head and they're like a god or goddess in your mind. You're stuck because you want one thing, but your heart is just sitting there, telling you that you can't leave them behind.
You were just getting faster and faster with your speaking, "And you just want to hold them, or let them hold you and reassure them that you love them with all of your being and it hurts because you know they like someone else!
Now you were crying, "And it sucks because you want to have them for yourself but you can't! I'm in love with a guy who has a beautiful girl waiting for him in his village. And then I'm here... I can't beat a childhood friend who has been there since he was born! I can't take back my time training to be a ranger!
You looked at Link, "I would never take back our travels for the world."
Link was floored by that confession! He never thought you would be a girl for romance. He admired how you were able to focus on the task at hand. You taught him how put together an easy set up/take down tent that was still protective against the elements. You always got him a discount in Hyrule Castle Town. You even stood up to some guards who were trying to steal from some kids. He never imagined you to even have the thought of love on your mind.
His heart hurt, seeing you so torn apart over this guy. You probably knew him for a long while. He must have been pretty special to gain your affections too. You were beautiful to Link. Your (s/t) may have been flawed with scars from past battles, but it was a canvas of your survival. Your bright (e/c) were the windows to your true emotion. And your hair...your (h/c) always looked clean and pristine in whatever hair style you chose, while his hair was always a mess.
He had only seen you cry the one night when you talked about your mentor. Your father figure had died, making sure you lived to get the message out. You let him down. And now, your were being vulnerable with the hero of time once more, allowing him to see how much one guy put you in such distress. This guys was enough to make you cry and Link hated it.
"I can relate," Link suddenly told you.
You stopped crying, listening closely.
"I love this girl," he continued. "I can't have her because she loves another guy. I know she wouldn't see me the way I see her. She's brave, courageous...by no means weak. She's not afraid to speak her mind. She's kind, but she can be a little scary. But I love her and I know I can't receive those same affections back... She's probably to good for me anyway."
You leaned against the hero of time. You were not usually so vulnerable, but when you were, you usually had no idea how to deal with your emotions. Yet you still gave your silent comfort to Link. You were both in the same boat with a bunch of problems. Love really sucked.
"Can I be nosy," Link suddenly asked. "You don't have to answer because I know-"
"Spit it out, hero," you stated, sitting up to give him your full and undivided attention.
"This guy you like..." He was twiddling his thumbs, "Who is he?"
Crap.
You must have made a face because he started to panic, "I said you don't have to answer! It's alright! I'm curious! You just-"
You sighed as he rambled on. You might as well get the rejection over with.
You took a breath and cut his rambling short, "It's you." When he froze, you continued, "I fell in love with you, Link. You're kind, brave, handsome... At first, I thought it was just a crush that might pass, but the more time we spent together, I realized that it wasn't just a crush. I fell in love with a boy who loved the thrill of the new adventure like me. I fell in love with someone who cares deeply about his friends. He's loyal. He's sweet. And...I'm so sorry I did. Illia's been waiting for you for so long and-"
"You're the girl I'm in love with." You stared as he continued, "You're not afraid of anything! You're brave and smart and clever and I fell in love because you are your own person. You believe in justice, stand on reason and you have more confidence in me than I've ever had for myself. You're this gorgeous woman and I-"
You cut him off by smashing your lips onto his. You never thought chapped lips would somehow have a softness to them. You held his face so that he would not move just yet. You felt his arms wrap round your waist and pull you closer. And all around you, the fairies laughed, probably happy the two of you were done moping about each other.
The call for air finally came around and the two of you parted. Link managed to get you back with a peck on your lips. The two of you rested your heads together, wanting the moment to last. But you knew it would not.
"Does this mean we're a couple now," you asked, almost breathless.
"If you'll have me," Link smiled.
You hit him upside the head, "Of course, you dork."
"Then would you come explore the world with me?"
"You know... Love doesn't suck as much when you've found someone who loves you back AND understands the calling for adventure."
You're lover laughed and you sealed the deal with another passionate kiss.

A/N:
HOLY CRAP THAT TOOK FOREVER!
Hey guys! I finally finished this tiny, one shot at almost 2,000 words. I don't know if I should be pleased or horrified. If any of you don't know why I say that, I repeat, a chapter with under 3,000 words is torture and it kills me.
But anyway, here's my first little sample of my writing style. If you're interested in my first person writing skills, check out Emrie the Witch. It's Fire Emblem, but it's the only first person sample that I have up.
One more thing, if anyone is wondering, the Ranger thing was an idea I based off of The Ranger's Apprentice. It is my favorite book series ever and if you haven't read it, I highly recommend it. It's my number one recommendation for any book series.
Anyway, I hope to see some requests soon and I love all my reader!
Tootles~
