Lunchtime.  I watch Amber flip through the book with an abhorrent expression on her face.

"Oh my God.  Brendon killed all of these people?"  She signs, wanting to be inconspicuous.

"Yes." I sign back.

"Where did you get this?"

"I broke into his house."

"What?!"

"With good reason.  I have to stop Brendon before he commits another murder."

"Did you find anything else?"

I reach into my backpack and take out the gold pendant.  Amber looks at it.

"That was Sarah's, wasn't it?"

I nod.  "I also lied."

"How?"

"That day, I didn't have a fever.  I faked it so I could sneak over to the psychiatric hospital and talk to Gerard."

She flips to his page.  "This guy?  The one who didn't die in the fire?"

"Yes.  Also, about Ryan Ross.  Brendon made me help him."

"Are you serious?  How?"

"I was the distraction.  I watched him bash Ryan's head, repeatedly.  I would've said something earlier but -"

"He threatened you, didn't he?"

"How could you tell?"

"That's what psychopaths do.  We have to take this to the police."

"No!  Not yet."

"Why not?"

"Because... Brendon knows."

"Knows what?"

"He caught me sneaking out of the house."

"What?!"

"He's gonna be watching my every move and he's beyond technologically savvy.  I'm gonna have to find a way to get this to the police without him knowing."

"But as long as you have it in your possession, you don't think he'll do anything?"

"I can't say for sure, but I'm not just going to hand it over to him.  Too many people have died, and I've come so far. I can't give up now."

She puts her hand on my back.  "You're not going to.  We'll figure something out."

I smile.  "Thanks."

"Why is it always the cute guys that are psychopaths?" She says aloud.

"Dear God.  Wait."  I say aloud.  "I have an idea."
