Chapter 7

Sorry for the wait

Ash kept his eyes closed in thought as he swayed back and forth from the uneven road.

They had placed Ash in a van for the ride to his demise, he sat in the back on one of the two benches on the sides, inside of the van.

Ash had concluded so far that someone had organized all that has happened so far, and that they're responsible for his death penalty. As Ash was being assisted down the halls he had heard a couple guards, briefly chatting about how they were going to enjoy his death more than anything, mainly because of all the plans of theirs that he had put a stop to. Even with this information he couldn't determine who or, possibly what organization they're from, but it would seem that it doesn't matter anymore.

' If only there was more time '

Ash was immediately surprised as the car came to a halting stop and he was thrown to the side against the side of the van that divided Ash and the driver and passenger seats, fazed, he stayed still and listened as someone had slammed one of the doors and walked around to the back of the vehicle.

Ash sat up as best as he could with his hands still bound with handcuffs, and faced as doors as they slowly opened.

" Let's go. "

Upon closer inspection Ash noticed that it was the same guard that was always standing outside his cell, it took him a second as the guard was wearing a hat and a pair of sunglasses.

Getting to his feet Ash stepped out the back of the vehicle, he winced as his eyes tried to adjust to the bright light. He glanced around at his surroundings to find that he was in the middle of the forest.

" What th- " Ash whispered to himself, not understanding what they were doing out there.

" I believe you. " The guard piped up.

Ash spun around to face the guard. " I'm sorry, what? " He questioned. " Who even are you? "

Taking off the hat and sunglasses, Ash could better see what this guy looked like.

" My names Ren. " The guard started off, he had light blond hair, blue eyes and was most likely just a couple years older than Ash, not to mention he reminded him of a certain two siblings he traveled with through his journey in Kalos. " I had been there to witness your entire case, even though I haven't been with the police long, it just seemed completely unfair. "

Ash didn't really feel as if he could trust this 'Ren' character, not knowing much more about his reasoning. " And so... you're letting me go? " Ash questioned, not seeming so impressed.

" Yup, from what I can tell you'd be the best at finding out what really happen so you can clear your name, also this way you don't have to go through the death penalty. " Ren replied.

Ash was quiet for a few moments before speaking up. " Are you sure you're a real cop? "

" Yes! " Ren shouted, somewhat hurt. " Seeing the way you acted around your pokemon compared to any other person there, concluded my theory, that you must be innocent. "

" And so your just gonna let me go, with no idea as to what would happen to you? " Ash questioned, as Ren took the handcuffs off of him.

Ren thought about it for a minute before replying back with another question " If I were to let you go, what would you do? People might believe that you're a murderer. "

Ash stared at the ground to the side. " The people that did all this, the ones that want me dead, I don't think they'd be too happy with my return. They must hold a lot of power in order to have done all this, if I were to go, to go home, i'm afraid that I wouldn't be the only one in danger. I would have to say that if you were to let me go, then I would help them keep up this charade, while also staying alive in order to clear my name. " Ash slightly smiled before looking back at Ren. " Now you answer my question, what would you do afterwards? "

" Well... uh... either face the consequences or say you knocked us out and keep up that charade you're planning on continuing. " Ren nervously said as those were the only two things he could up with.

" Wouldn't you also have to be knocked out for the second option to work? " Ash said, moving his hand over his mouth to hide the smile forming on his face.

" Oh yeah...shit. " Ren sighed, not to thrilled about it. " But I guess it is our better option... "

...

...

Ash tried to hold back his laughter as he spoke. " But like, really? "

" Yes, I am a cop! " Ren shouted as Ash burst into laughter.

" Sure, sure. " Ash replied, calming a bit down now.

" Let's just get this over with.. " Ren sighed, straightening his posture.

"Fine by me. " Ash complied.

Ren thought about what else he should say now, when he had the chance. "Nothing will be like it was before, are you sure you're okay with that? "

Thinking about the last couple of days Ash replied with " Nobody asked if I was okay with the death penalty, so I think i'll be able to live with this new change, or at least i'll try. "

" Alright, I guess that covers everything for now. If you need any help, i'm sure you'll find some way of telling me. " Ren said as Ash stood in front of him.

After making sure his gloves were on tightly Ash decided to say one last thing, just to make sure. " Thanks... but like, really? "

" Fuck off Ketchum, just do it already! " Ren argued before Ash, in one word reminded his about his 'Language.' then had succeeded in knocking Ren out.
