17. Hanging out with a cute woman

Rylie met me at the coffee shop. She was wearing baggy jeans and a big sweater. Her hair was up in one of those messy buns girls are excellent at doing. She sat in front of me, and moaned.

" I'm so tired."

I smiled.

" Of course you are. You don't need to pull all nighter's to do a second novel, you know!"

Rylie groaned.

" I'm at my peak. Now's the time to do a follow up novel, to make one new and hope to be as good the second time 'round!"

She sighed.

" Anyways."

I glanced over her shoulder. In the booth behind Rylie, a woman I knew all too much was sipping  coffee in a 'I HEART NY' mug, hiding behind big shades and a leopard printed coat. Sarah really wasn't good at being undercover.

" You alright, baby?"

" Y— Yeah. Just tired too."

Her eyes seemed to analyse me, but she didn't say anything else. She was as pretty as ever, even in this Sunday 'fit. My girlfriend truly is a boss. A babe. A cutie. A princess. A princess that just happens to have been more a princess with a pee-pee. Take that, DISNEY!

" Look. About my father. I'm sorry that he did his number on you. My dad's a little psycho with my boyfriends. He's a bit anxious. He's persuaded that they'll throw me away because of who I am. Granted, it did happen a couple of times, and in real ugly ways, but..."

" They were all idiots, Rider. You're the most beautiful and most wonderful woman I've ever met."

" And you're the worst goofball."

" I'm not even allowed to tell you what I think of you!" I whined, pretending to roll my eyes

Rylie pursed her lips.

" I just don't like listening while you just treat me like a princess. It's weird."

" You're weird."

" I know that."

" Don't say that."

" Don't kill my fun."

I chuckled. She was such a kid when she wanted to be.

" Did you order? I desperately need caffeine."

" Yeah. Two black coffees are coming up."

" Thank you for being the absolute best."

" I know I'm the best."

" Big head."

" You're mean."

" We already established that, remember?"

" Killjoy."

"Meanie."

" You're the meanie!"

"Baby."

" That's a petname."

" What? You thought I was being cute when calling you that? I meant you're worse than a toddler, babe."

" No?! Seriously?"

" I don't know. Think a little, baby."

A waiter arrived with our two fuming cups of black coffee. I tipped him ten dollars and winked to Rylie. The boiling beverage was delicious and invigorating. Felt nice to feel awake— and alive.

" I love you JJ."

" Love you more."

" Not possible."

" Why not?"

" You'll know one day.."

" I'd kill for you. Pretty sure I love you most."

Ah, if only she knew... WAIT. Hope Sarah didn't hear that. She could think I actually had something to do with the murders I committed.
