In the early hours of February 25th, 2012, a fire broke out in the Machine Room and consumed practically all the facilities of the Comandante Ferraz Antarctic Station, resulting in two losses and paralyzing activities for an indefinite period. Ferraz Station would only return to operation, in new facilities, on February 15th, 2020.

     Our story takes place a year before that terrible fire in the old facilities. It should be noted, however, that all the events described in this book are fictitious, but the difficulties inherent to the continent, experienced by the characters, are more than real.

     A special thanks to Ulisses Capozzoli, who kindly allowed me to use his book, Antarctica, the Last Land ¹, as a source of reference and paraphrase, in particular the chapter Storm on the Drake Passage.
