"It's a stalemate. No one is exiled," Preto declared, having counted the votes. There were grumbles of dissatisfaction from both sides, but they knew it was fair.

"They're going to kill someone else tonight, unless the shaman's apprentice stops them. I hope you realize that," Kapok hissed angrily, tail lashing. The small cub looked fierce, and definitely angry. It was almost hard to believe that the once innocent jaguar had turned into a paranoid victim.

The others didn't have anything to say to that, so Kapok strode away towards the nursery. He was sleeping by himself tonight. He felt disgusted by the other jaguars, and their lack of action. The others broke up and went to their dens as well, noticing how empty the camp looked. Soon, it would be emptier.

Kapok woke up in the same place as last time, but the shadow cat was already there. It immediately pinned him to the ground, snarling angrily.

"You got away last time, Kapok. But not this time. Not tonight. Tonight, I kill you. Then tomorrow, I win," it hissed. Kapok kicked at its legs and belly, but he couldn't do anything.

"No! I'm not ready!" Kapok wailed. But the murderer didn't listen. He felt a sharp pain in his throat, then he faded away. A bright light appeared, and he saw his family standing in front of him.

Masaya woke up to find Kapok's still body beside her, and let out a screech. Preto instantly shot up, and Machupo ran into the den.

"Oh no . . . they went after him again," Preto murmured, gently picking him up by the scruff. He carried the small cub outside, and laid him gently on the ground.

"This is it. The last time we exile someone," Machupo mewed solemnly. "This is the end. Either the right cat is exiled, or we all die". The gravity of the situation suddenly hit all of them.

"Well . . . then I guess we vote," Masaya continued. The three jaguars looked at each other, unsure what to stay.
