Prolouge

Three demigods walked down the dirt path of Camp Half-Blood on the last day of summer. The blonde and the boy with a mop of jet black hair wore matching orange t-shirts with bold black lettering. The brunette, however, wore all black from head to toe. She wore a simple black tank top with three skulls on it that was tucked into black denim shorts that were being held up with a belt.

"So...where're you guys going to school this time?"

The blonde sighed. "Seaweed brain, don't use 'where're' in a sentence, it makes you sound dumb. And like I'd tell you."

The brunette laughed slightly. "Oh, he sounds dumb regardless. Hence the nicknames Seaweed brain and Kelp head." He let out a sound of protest as the two girls high five. "And Wise girl, I think you'll get a kick out of this. It's in Virginia." There was a dramatic pause before she continued. "I got accepted into the FBI academy."

The two other teens burst into overlapping shouts. They yelled a bit more — Percy in encouragement and Annabeth in utter disbelief — before Annabeth finally tried to get a word in edgewise. "You're not even sixteen! You lied about your age, didn't you?"

Ashley rolled her eyes. " Like no one's done that before. If that's illegal you might as well arrest everyone who's ever used the internet."

Percy scratched the back of his neck. "I don't know Phantom, that does seem a little sketchy when you use it to get into the FBI. Sounds like you could get in trouble for that."

Her green eyes narrowed dangerously. "I thought I told you not to call me that. And it's simple: I won't get in trouble, because I don't intend to get caught."

The son of Poseidon tilted his head and Ashley could practically hear gears turning in his head. "I really don't think it works that way."

She shrugged. "We'll have to agree to disagree. Give me a year, you'll see. If there's one thing I know, it's death."

Black wisps seemed to be pulled together and solidify to form a female figure. Will Graham tilted his head like one of his many strays as he approached her and the figure gained color and details.

The girl was young, but it was impossible to tell if she was twenty or sixteen. Brunette hair stopped just above her shoulders and her arms were crossed over her chest. She was clad head to toe in what could only be described as the goth version of Ancient Greek armor.

She turned her head to face him and he couldn't help but notice the freckles on her face and the cold, curious glance in her green eyes. "See?"

He tried to open his mouth to respond only to feel something grab his ankle. Instinctively, he glanced down in horror as the corpse of a dead girl seemed to pull herself out of the ground...no, she was trying to pull him down with her.

He let out a shout as another surfaced, clawing at his legs and pulling at him. Will reached out for the girl as his knees caved as two more latched on but she simply shook her head as if disappointed in him before turning away and disappearing into the shadows and fog.

Will fought and clawed and punched, but that didn't stop him from sinking lower nor did it stop the girls from dragging him under.

Momentary relief flooded through his chest as her figure returned to the scene, this time accompanied by a black, starved human-like figure with antlers. She glanced at him before turning to the other figure. The wendigo nodded once and the girl turned back to him with a sneer.

Will tried to talk, to plead with her, but his lips remained sealed as she swiftly dropped to a kneel, shoving his head and forcing him under once and for all.

Will Graham shot upright with a gasp and scrambled for his glasses. He was completely and utterly alone beside the pack of dogs that littered the floor like dirty clothes in a teenager's room.

Closing his sapphire blue eyes, he could still see the mystery girl raising one unimpressed eyebrow at him and asking the simple question: see? He could still feel her pushing him under with a cruel smile and a dangerous glint in her eyes.

It wasn't until classes started a week later did he finally see the girl in person. She was older than in his dream, but it was undoubtedly the same person. The same cold and calculating emerald green eyes. The same brunette hair that stopped at her shoulders.

Will furrowed his eyebrows as his gaze focused on her. Pay attention to her...she's important, a small voice in the back of his mind whispered.
