"Fen, use Fire Spin!"

My best friend, Fen the Fennekin, and I were in a heated battle with an Elite Trainer on Victory Road. Fen had the type advantage; his opponent was a Honedge. Fen surrounded himself in a coat of flames, jumped into the air, and spun into Honedge at top speed, landing a critical hit and knocking his opponent down. The Honedge tried to stand up... and fell right back down. "Woohoo! I mean, good battle." I walked over an shook my opponent's hand. When I turned back around I saw multicolored stars fly from Fen. He'd leveled up! Fen stood up tall and puffed his chest out. He stood like that for about a minute before shrinking back and wistfully looking at the ground. You see, Fen, for some reason, had never been able to evolve. We could never figure out why, but every time he leveled up now, he tried hard to evolve. Suddenly, his ears perked up. Putting his nose to the ground, he took off at top speed.

"Fen! Wait!"

But it was too late. Fen was gone.

<Fen>

"Where is it?" I thought. "And what am I even looking for?" Something was telling me to follow the scent, like an instinct. With my nose to the ground, I ran around the cave. I wasn't paying attention to my surroundings. All I heard was Josie shouting my name. "I'll be back Josie. Don't worry."

After looking for a while, the scent got stronger. I knew I was close. Soon I came up to a small hole in the cave wall. "It must be in here. Whatever 'it' is." I scurried through the tunnel, which opened up into a large cavern. Inside the cavern was a large Pokemon. It was blue and black with two large antlers. On the anthers were shards of different color crystal.

"Xerneas. Are you the thing I've been seeking?"

"No. But I have what you've been searching."

Xerneas stepped to the side. Behind him was a stone made of pure flame. " A Fire Stone! Of course! Thank you Xerneas."

And with that, Xerneas turned and smashed into the wall, widening the tunnel I had come down. "Goodbye Fen. I hope we meet again someday."

I was running around the cave, looking for Fen, when suddenly a huge Pokemon broke through the cave wall. I just caught a glimpse of two antlers before the Pokemon disappeared in dust. As soon as it cleared, however, I saw the Pokemon I'd been looking for.

"Fen!"

He was in the cavern the large Pokemon had broken out of. Fen ran to me and jumped into my arms. "Don't ever run away from me again!" Then I saw the what was behind him. "A Fire Stone! You can finally evolve!"

Fen looked into my eyes and gave me a look that said "I don't want to evolve now. I want to prove that little guys can win big battles!"

"You don't want to evolve? Well that's fine by me. You're cuter this way anyway." Fen rolled his eyes.

"Alright. Let's go become Champions! Ready or not Pokemon League, here we come!"
