Prompto
For Whovian3135 cuz who doesn't want a cute little sleeping bean of their own ;)
"Alright, out you guys. Take care of your business then come back and help me set up camp," Gladio called as he parked the car at a campsite.
You chorused with the other three guys as you all rushed off to do just that. But you noticed something wasn't quite right with your blond haired friend. Prompto didn't rush into the little town you guys stopped at and find the first thing he saw and tried to take a picture with it. Instead, he walked slowly into a nearby bar/inn, his head hanging low. You caught up with him, placing a hand on his arm. Your eyes widened at how warm he felt to the touch. Almost like he was sunburnt.
"Whoa, hey you alright?"
Prompto turned to you, smiling weakly. "Yup. All good." Then he continued on his way to the back of the building to the restrooms.
You gave him a hard stare. "You feel really warm."
He waved you off before going into his respective restroom. "Don't worry about it. We do travel in a topless convertible."
You let out a breath as the door shut behind him. Since joining the group and traveling with them everywhere, you noticed Prompto sucked at taking care of himself. Had you not been there to tell him to drink, tie his shoes, and not toss his knives in the dark, he would be dead from dehydration, a trip during battle, and self-immolation. You can't help but question how the man survived before you came along.
The two of you were best of friends, but only recently did you start to feel something a little...different when around him. You couldn't quite place it but it made your worrying ten times more apparent and you couldn't get yourself to stop thinking about him. Sometimes you got the impression he may feel differently about you too, in a good way.
You had gotten sick recently and Prompto was ever the attentive one. Sleeping by you in case you needed something, getting you food, tucking you in warm when he thought you were asleep. He even made you food once when you woke up after your fever broke and you were starving. It wasn't half bad. Since then you couldn't stop getting his face out of your mind and his gentle brushes on your skin to stop tingling.
After doing your business and shopping around the town for foods and small trinkets, you came up to the camp, its familiar setup making you smile and feel right at home. Ignis thanked you for the food and got started on making dinner. Noctis was brooding about something Gladio said, his booming laughter filling the sky. You looked around for Prompto, his usual smile and jokes missing.
Just when you were about to drag Noctis with you to go find Prompto, your man in question appeared, his feet dragging as he walked up to the camp from the town. You gave him an odd look as you caught up to him, falling in step with his lazy strides.
"Don't wave me off again. You just came out of at hotel bar didn't you?"
Prompto didn't say anything to you, just glanced at you and kept walking. You reached up, placing your hand on his face and making him stop walking. His skin was burning up.
"You have a fever."
"I'm alright. Just tired is all."
You both made it into camp just as Ignis had finished making dinner. You all gathered and ate, the conversation lively and perfectly diverting everyone thoughts from the purpose of this trip. But Prompto stayed unusually quiet. You had finished eating and was just enjoying being around everyone when Prompto got up from next to you, his plate of food barely touched.
You looked up at him, touching his hand. "You need anything?"
"Just grabbing a drink." He afforded you a weak smile, your constant nagging for him to drink a now shared inside joke amongst countless others.
You nodded, turning to watch him grab something to drink from the cooler. But you shot up as your heart leapt into your throat. Prompto stumbled, falling to his knees before he stood, shaking slightly. You rushed over to him, wrapping an arm around his waist as you took his hand.
"Next time I say you are sick, maybe you should listen to me." You let out a breath as you felt him lean into you, his breathing heavy. "I think it's my fault, I gave it to you."
Prompto shook his head, his warm forehead touching your temple. "I'd get sick a thousand times if it meant taking care of you."
Your eyes went wide and you swallowed. "Yeah, you are defiantly loosing it."
"Hey, (Y/n), everything going alright there?" Gladio boomed.
You turned your head as best you could with Prompto practically laying on you. "Yeah, everything's fine. I think we are going to turn in early."
Noctis pointed to the setting sun. "It's still light out."
Gladio snorted. "Is that what we call it these days?"
Ignis nodded. "We plan to leave before dawn."
You just nodded back, taking Prompto with great effort over to the smaller of the two tents. Usually, you used that one just for yourself but after getting sick it was picked as the designated sick tent. As carefully as you could, you laid him down, his head lolling to the side showing off his jawline. You busied yourself with getting him comfortable, brushing his sweat stuck hair off his face and neck.
"Hey, Prom, you alive?"
He opened his eyes, smiling weakly as he lifted his hand to give you a shaky thumbs up. "Never better."
You smiled, glad he was in there somewhere. "I'm going to take off your winter stuff, you're burning up."
"If you wanted me to undress, you just had to ask. You have delicate hands."
"You are half delirious." You laughed as you pulled off his thick jacket and layered shirt, leaving him in a light shirt and vest. "Is that what you say to all the girls you are alone with?"
Prompto closed his eyes, leaning his head back with a shrug. "Only the pretty ones."
"I knew it. Flattery gets you nowhere, buddy. You are such a womanizer."
That made him chuckle but it quickly turned into a cough. It amazed you he hadn't passed out sooner. Then you paused before wrapping him in a thin blanket. You looked at him, reaching up to stroke sweat off his brow.
"You passed out in the bathroom, didn't you?"
Prompto peeked an eye, his lips curving in a weak, guilty smile. "The sure did waste a lot of combat training on you when you should have gone into detective work. Maybe even a nurse." He closed his eyes again. "You are bossy like one."
"Yeah, well, someone has to take care of you."
With some of his clothes in his arms, you stood to leave. But Prompto reached out, taking hold of your wrist. Your skin tingled, like all the other times, but you ignored it as you turned to him.
"Thanks. It's hard for me to ask for help..." his voice faded off.
You gave him a sweet smile as you knelt down next to him. "I know," you whispered, "Now rest, I'm getting you a rag for your face and some medicine. Maybe even get some soup for you to take before going to bed with an empty stomach."
You leaned down and kissed Prompto's forehead lightly, his skin warmer now. You wondered if he tingled to your touch like to did to his. You hurried out and asked Ignis to whip up a small thing of soup. He gladly got to work on that as you told him, Gladio, and Noctis about Prompto and his illness. They agreed to leave the nursing to you, not wanting the rest of them to get sick. Plus you had had it already, so it was only fitting. But for some reason the look those three shared made you blush as you turned to get a cold, damp rag.
You decided to change too, into something a bit more comfortable. You grabbed your own blanket, the rag, some medicine, a pillow for Prompto, and the soup. With your load, you made your way to the sick tent. Inside, Prompto seemed to be fast asleep until he smelled the soup.
"At least you have your appetite."
Taking the soup, Prompto sat up with your help and the pillow you brought. "I may not love food like Ignis does but I sure do like eating it."
You laughed, handing him the medicine then let him eat as you laid out your blanket. The tent was roomy for two people, but Prompto was right in the middle so you found yourself relatively close to him. Not that you were complaining.
"Are you staying in here?"
You looked up and snorted. Prompto had some soup on his chin. You leaned forward and wiped the soup with the rag before placing the rag and taking his finished bowl.
"Yup. Just like you did for me."
Prompto just looked up at you as you stood. You looked down at him, a small smile on your lips. "What?"
Prompto shook his head as he got comfortable, a little cough escaping. "Nothing."
You raised a brown and laughed lightly. "Alright. I'll be right back, I need to grab some more things."
"Another kiss before you go?"
Your face reddened as you turned your back to him and left the tent. "Sleep!" You called.
You gave Ignis the cleaned bowl and left to get yourself a pillow and a bit of a thicker blanket. Prompto stole the other one. By the time you returned he was fast asleep, his full belly and medicine doing the trick.
Quietly, you set up next to him, yawning. Despite the light of the setting sun filling the tent, you found yourself growing tired. You laid down, looking at Prompto as he slept a bit fitfully. He kept coughing, but he was staying asleep. Soon enough you were fast asleep, your hand reached out and lightly placed on his arm.
~
You let out a slight squeal as you felt arms wrap around you. Your eyes shot open and darkness of the night blinded you, your heart hammering as your breath quickened. Taking a few minutes to get our bearings, you suddenly remembered where you were. And who you were with.
Prompto's breath tickled your ear as he pulled you a little closer to his chest. You closed your eyes and smiled, relishing the feeling of being in his arms. Almost like a dream come true. But it was all shattered when he started to shake from a cough stuck in his throat.
Gently, you turned in his arms, looking at him and stroking back some of his hair.
"Do you always cuddle with your tent mates?" You whispered, not really expecting an answer. So when you got one, you froze then smiled.
"Only the cute ones who take care of me," he whispered back.
"Don't tell Gladio, he'd be devastated."
You could feel Prompto smile a little bit. "We can't all be pretty." He then coughed, his body shaking.
You reached out again, cupping his cheek. "You need to release me just for a little bit. I'll be right back."
Prompto groaned good-naturedly but coughed once more. "If you don't hurry back I'll whist away into nothingness."
"Pffft. You'll live. If you die, know that I will mourn forever as I claim your vest."
"As you should. I'm kind of a big deal. The vest is yours, you would look better in it than the others."
You both laughed as you imagined the other three wearing his vest. Quickly, and without thinking you leaned forward and pecked him, thinking you would get his cheek. But you got his nose instead. Blushing furiously, you slipped out of his arms and left the tent.
You went to go wake Ignis and tell him that the group will need to wait another day before leaving, for Prompto's sake. Then you quickly made your way back to the tent, feeling your way around for Prompto. He reached out and took your hand. You laid back down and smiled to yourself as Prompto pulled you to him, your head resting on his chest with your arm over his belly with your fingers laced with his. He was amazing to cuddle with.
It was silent for a bit until Prompto spoke. "Thank you, (Y/n)."
You smiled. Still reacting to every prompt to kiss him, you leaned your head up and kissed under his jaw. "Of course, Prompto. Anything for you. Besides, you did the same for me."
"What did you get up to do," he whispered, his hand around your shoulders running up and down your arm.
You snuggled closer to him and let out a sign. "I told the others we were sleeping in."
Prompto chuckled but it turned into a cough. "Good call." You then felt a light kiss on the top of your head. "Goodnight, (Y/n)."
You couldn't stop smiling as you concluded that he, too, felt differently about you as you did of him. "Goodnight, Prompto."
