George O'Malley

You felt a gentle kiss on your cheek as you snuggled deeper into your warm blanket, letting out a content moan. The smell of cologne and mint toothpaste made you smile as you kept your eyes closed against the early morning light.

"See you later tonight, Mrs. O'Malley."

Your smile grew as your husband kissed you one more time before you heard him quietly shuffle out. You giggled into your pillow as you let his words sink in.

Mrs. O'Malley.

Sure, you have been married for several months but having finally gone on your honeymoon and finally gotten a small apartment together it was all becoming real. It was no longer a fantasy or long drawn out dream.

You were really married to George O'Malley.

George looked at the ring on his finger as he placed his things in his locker, his mind still reeling after waking up to you sleeping peacefully next to him. Despite almost everyone and everything going against you two, you still wanted to marry him and it actually happened. He couldn't get his heart to calm down, not that he wanted to, and he couldn't wait to get to the part where he got to come home from long hard days at work to you cooking or just sitting there, grinning up at him with that smile he just couldn't get enough of.

The sound of the other interns entering brought him back to reality but not before Izzy caught him smiling down at his ring.

"I swear, you are more smitten with that band than most girls are with their rock."

George chuckled, twisting it with his fingers. "Yeah well, it's the girl it represents that I'm really smitten with."

There was a collective "awe" from the people in the room that ended in congratulations and welcome backs. George thanked them, his cheeks hurting from smiling so much. Meredith came in, grinning at him as she tucked the day's work of files under her arm.

"Welcome back, George. Congratulations on your wedding. She's one lucky girl."

George nodded to her. "Thanks. But I think I'm the lucky one."

You lifted your face and welcomed George's quick peck before he rushed out of the house for a red-eye shift.

"See you tomorrow, beautiful!" He called out to you.

You replied with a smile and wave but the moment the door shut behind him you rushed to the bathroom and puked. You hadn't even eaten anything yet and you felt like death. But you knew you weren't dying. You were quite the opposite.

You wiped your chin and looked at the mirror. You stood back and pulled your shirt close to your body and rubbed the small bump that showed. Your heart fluttered and you suddenly felt giddy. Even if you hadn't taken all the tests, you knew now for sure;

You were pregnant.

But you hesitated telling George. Not that you were ashamed or that it wasn't his. It was that so soon after the two of you had finally gotten to settle down, a child comes along. You just weren't sure how he would take it. George had such a hard time before; losing his dad, his first wife to another woman, several close patience and having his heart played with. You had never seen him so happy than you have these past months after getting married. You didn't want to have him stress over you and your unborn child.

You had no idea how far along you were and you didn't really feel like getting seen to yet, not without him there with you. But you weren't sure how much longer you could keep your bump hidden from him.

For the rest of the day, you sighed about, your emotions about your bun in the oven staying as constant as a rollercoaster. It wasn't until well into the night that you sat in the dark with a bowl of ice cream, hot cocoa, and pretzels that you decided it was time to just get it over with and tell him. Not having any room in your gut to wait for him to come home, you figured now was as good as time as any. With shaking hands, you picked up your phone and dialed the hospital, asking for your husband.

George nodded thanks to the nurse who held a wall phone out to him, his mind reeling with questions. Where you hurt? Did the oven lock the food inside again? Did you forget how to work the TV? Did you miss him as much as he missed you?

"Hello?"

"Hey, honey."

George smiled at the sound of your voice. "Hey there beautiful. Is everything alright?"

He heard you take a deep breath. He waited patiently as you would start but not finish any of your sentences. Worry bubbled up inside him but he didn't want to let you know that. He smiled and let out a little chuckle.

"Take a deep breath. I promise not to get upset because you can't figure out how to get the TV to work."

You let out a little laugh and his shoulders relaxed. He tried again.

"But if it's the oven I can't help you there. I know we need a new one but I think getting a better mattress is a must. I mean, unless you wanna-"

"I'm pregnant."

George stilled at your sudden interruption. He could see you in his mind's eye biting your lip and closing your eyes as you awaited his reacting. At first, he didn't know what to think. But then he imagined you all big and rosy-checked and he couldn't help but laugh out loud, smiling wide.

"(Y/n)! That's-that's amazing! Our own little kid, running around and making messes. Honey-"

"You're not upset?"

George blinked. "Upset? Why would I be upset? Mrs. O'Malley, we are going to be parents!" He practically jumped up and down like a little school girl. "You are going to be one fantastic mother."

He could hear you holding back tears on the other end. His wide smile softened as he finally understood your swinging emotions and odd food cravings. He leaned his head against the wall and spoke calmly to you.

"I'll be home as soon as I can and we can talk, in detail, how you would like the baby room to look."

He could feel your smile radiate through the phone and he grinned at his success.

"Alright."

"I love you, beautiful."

"Love you too."

He hung up and then didn't care what else was asked of him; he clocked out and hurried home. You were doing the dishes, humming to yourself, when you felt strong arms wrap around you. You froze but soon relaxed as you felt kisses start at the base of your neck and gave you goosebumps as they trailed up to behind your ear. You leaned back into George as he told you sweet things about you and the coming baby.

You turned in his arms and laid your head on his chest. He sighed, resting his head on yours. "Why did you wait to tell me over the phone while I was a work?"

You winced, having already mentally kicked yourself for doing that. "I don't know. I think I was just worried about your reaction and I couldn't' chicken out if you couldn't see me." You buried your face in his chest. "I'm sorry."

George kissed the top of your head and moved back enough to look you in the eyes. "Don't be. You still have a baby in your tummy and we are still going to be parent whether you told me over the phone, in a letter or with sigh language."

You giggled, feeling a bit better.

He lowered his face and pressed his lips lovingly to yours, pouring his love into the kiss.

"I love you so much more now than I ever thought I could," he whispered against your lips, "thank you for being you."

You smiled wide and kissed him slowly, the two of you never leaving each other's arms for a long time.
