Not Without You | Kazimieras
Underneath the inky black sky, they lock their hands together. He feels her every tremble, every frigid exhale against his ice-cold skin. She whispers her love between them, a declaration that seems won't pass the night along with them. Chest aching with every shivering breath, he looks into her eyes defiantly. He has her make a promise; to live a life worth living, a life worth dying for in a warm bed of old age. Although the situation is fruitless, she promises.
In the dark of the living room, hands clutching within the blanket, you sniff. As their foreheads press against their locked hands on the screen, you discreetly wipe your fingers underneath your eyes.
No matter how many times you've watched the movie, you can't seem to hold back the tears as the story approaches the end. Your heart aches for them, aches for the unconditional love that they share. In the freezing waters of the Atlantic ocean, you cannot imagine the pain, the heartache, the coldness of the waters that the people on the Titanic had to endure on that chilly night.
You knew that the coldness was unbearable, however, you would never know the true extent of that statement until later.

Lips numb and teeth chattering, you close your eyes and huddle further into the all-encompassing heat that surrounds you. Feet shifting, the arm that wraps around you pulls you closer.
"Are you okay?" Kaz whispers.
You're both in a bed, heavy quilts and blankets are tucked tightly around you. Outside the window is dark. The only source of light in the bedroom is the small fireplace that holds a crackling fire.
"I'm cold." Shivering, you tilt your head back a little to look at him. "What-What happened?"
His eyebrows furrow. "You fell into the frozen lake. You don't remember?"
It takes a moment to reflect. You remember being excited to ice skate, chattering and laughing with the team as you laced your skates on. "Chase kept falling on the ice." Eyes closing, your voice becomes a soft murmur. "Oliver was laughing. Bree was chasing you." It becomes faint, and your memory flickers. Your eyebrows furrow together. "I don't... that's all I remember."
You open your eyes and Kaz is looking at you. "You fell soon after. You were..." Kaz closes his eyes for a moment. "We all ran after you. It seemed like forever, but we found you under the ice." His hand on your side closes in a soft fist. "Oliver broke the ice, and we pulled you out."
You've never seen Kaz so somber, so sad. There were moments where he got upset, yes, But never have you seen him look so pained at the thought of you almost dying. You relished in his joy and laughter, his cheesy jokes and terrible one-liners. You knew, however, that he would mask the depth of his feelings behind a false smile.
You reach for his hand on your side, bringing it up to hold between your chests. "I'm okay. I have my own personal heater, don't I?"
His smile is fleeting, once again serious. "I could've lost you."
"You didn't. I'm right here." You rub soothing circles on his hand. "I don't plan on going anywhere." He interlaces your fingers together, and you smile, soft and gentle.
"I have you."
He wants to say more. Wants to confess the feelings that he has for you. But he sees your eyes flutter with exhaustion, so instead of doing so, he pulls you closer to tuck your head underneath his chin. "Sleep now. You need rest."
Your breathing gets slower, deeper. He presses his lips on the top of your head as he closes his eyes, listening to the fire crackle. He sleeps with your hands still intertwined.

Excitedly bouncing on the balls of your feet, bottom lip tucked between your teeth, your eyes gleam as you take in the ice rink in front of you. "Gosh, it's beautiful."
Centium City sure knew how to decorate for the Holidays. They were wreaths and cutout snowflakes pasted to the lamposts and white-colored string lights strung above the ice rink, casting a warming glow upon the gleaming smiles that adorn people's faces. The ice was glittering underneath people's feet and you wanted to join them.
"Are you sure you want to do this?" Kaz scratches the back of his neck, eyebrows pulled together. "We could do something else if you want."
"Kaz, stop being such a worry-wart." Bree stands after lacing her skates. "They want to do this."
You reach and grasp Kaz's hand, interlacing your fingers together. "I want to do this, trust me." You rub your thumb against the skin of his hand. "I have you, don't I?"
Kaz swallows with a click, lips pressing together in a fine line. His voice shakes as he says, "Of course."
As the people pile out of the ice rink and the employees clear it out, you shiver with excitement.
Once they're ready, they let you all in. Chase sits out with Tasha and Naomi as the rest of you get on the ice. Bree and Skylar are off. Oliver pats Kaz on the shoulder in silent support, sending him a thumbs up before he's off as well.
Gnawing on his bottom lip, Kaz's eyes dart around to the people around him before you ground his gaze to you. "Hey, I'm right here. We're on an ice rink, we're safe." Taking his hand in yours, you both skate off slowly.
He feels better afterward, seeing the absolute joy that takes over your face as you skate with him. You're fast and light on your feet, legs gliding on the ice so effortlessly, so gracefully that he can't help but smile. He wants you safe and happy, and he would do anything to make you smile just like this.
On ice you skate circles around him, teasing him and laughing with him. Soon you both slow to a stop beside the wall to catch your breaths.
"I''m sorry for worrying so much," he says to you. "You, you mean a lot to me and I don't want you getting hurt." He clutches the wall for dear life. It's out there now, he can't take the words back, but you have to know.
"I know." You smile, placing a hand on his arm. "You mean a lot to me too, Kaz. But as superheroes, we're bound to get hurt. But being with you would make all the pain bearable." Your smile is small, nervous now. "I love you, Kaz. I wouldn't want anyone else to be by my side than you."
He embraces you, wrapping one arm around you and using the other to hold onto the wall. "I love you, too." His eyes squeeze shut to keep them from watering.
Heart racing, you pull away to look up at him. You hold his face in your hands, eyes glittering with unshed tears. "Kiss me."
He presses his lips to yours. You can't help but smile into the kiss, pulling away a few moments later. "My own personal heater."
The both of you laugh, smiling and kissing each other once more before you're dragging him off to continue skating. And with your hand in his, he knows that whatever obstacle comes your way, you're both going to face it side by side.
