Term was starting soon, and I would be starting my 1st year at Hogwarts! Exciting, I know. New classes, new friends, new professors, new everything, basically.

I made my way through Diagon Alley with my mom, my dad having been getting my older brother's supplies with my brother. We hurried to Flourish and Botts, that being our last destination for the day. We would meet the rest of our family there.

Right as I ran into the beloved book shop, I bumped into a boy of about my age. But he was a bit short, though, shorter than he should've for 11. But that just made him cuter in a brotherly kind of way.

"I'm so sorry!" he exclaimed, picking up his dropped books. "I'm just..." he trailed off as he looked up. His face immediately grew bright red, and he rubbed the back of his neck nervously. "Umm...er...I'm really sorry." was all he mustered.

I smiled at his nervousness. He really was an adorable younger brother kind of boy. "That's fine. I'm Adaline, but you can call me Addi! Nice to meet you."

"I'm Spot." he stuttered. "Spot Conlon."  Yep, adorable little brother indeed.

I ran into Spot again at Platform 9 3/4. Literally. Our trolleys didn't tip over or spill anything, though, so that was good.

"Oh, hey, Spot!" I greeted him with a hug. "How's the rest of your summer been?"

"Ehh, a bit boring, actually. I had nothing to do so my mum made me read my textbooks." he replied a with a hint of annoyance.

I laughed, gesturing for him to come with me. My parents had seen my brother and I off, telling him he had to keep an eye on me. But surprise surprise, he didn't. Not that I'm complaining. He's a 4th year anyway.

Spot and I heaved our trunks onto the train, and found an empty train car to sit in. We were joined a few minutes later by a boy and his friend. They didn't look very nice.

And surprise surprise again, they weren't. The started teasing Spot immediately.

"Well if it isn't the Conlons' biggest disgrace." the first boy taunted Spot. He fisted his hands in his jacket, his ears going red.

"What's the matter? Cat got your tongue?" The second boy teased.

"Shut up!" Spot shouted at them.

The two boys laughed. "What are you gonna so about it?"

"I'll-" Spot began, but was cut off by a voice.

"What's going on here?" Spot froze when he heard the voice.

"Uh...nothing!" the two boys stuttered nervously. "We were just passing by."

The mysterious owner of the voice came into view, and the older boy was a 7th year. It seemed they were head girl too.

"Joseph, we talked about this. Don't discriminate because of blood. Harry Potter established that when he defeated the Dark Lord." She added in a lower voice, "And just because he's a Conlon doesn't mean you can start teasing him. Sure, his family doesn't have the greatest reputation. But just leave him be; a few decades of wrong doesn't justify you teasing someone."

Joseph ducked his head and nodded, slinking away with his friend. The girl turned to us with a kind smile. "You guys handled that pretty well. Keep up the good work." She disappeared without another word.

Fast forward to Valentine's Day second year. Nothing exciting really happened during September 1st to end of term last year. Spot and I were sorted into different houses though. I was sorted into Ravenclaw, he was sorted into Slytherin. That was pretty much the only sad thing. 

Now, back to Valentine's Day, our second year.

As soon as I stepped out of the Great Hall from breakfast, Spot ran up to me as if the devil was after him. He leaned against the wall, catching his breath. He was still a short boy, still very adorable.

"One second." he panted.

A moment later, he straightened up again and looked at me with a sheepish smile, his face the same as it was when we first met. 

"Go on a date with me?" he asked so shyly, so quietly, that I had to strain to hear him.

I smiled teasingly, ruffling his hair. He shrank away from me, his expression slightly hurt. "I'm sorry, Shorty. Maybe when you're taller." I told him jokingly. "Shorty" was the nickname I had come up for Spot while we were on the train. Spot hated it at first, but he grew used to it.

Spot huffed and gave me a sad smile before hurrying off to class. My friends snickered at Spot while I watched him catch up with his friends. They patted him on the back consolingly, telling him that I'd say yes sooner or later.

Third year rolls along, and the same thing happened on Valentine's day.

"Come with me to Hogsmeade this weekend?" Spot asked hopefully.

I shook my head. "Sorry, Spot."

He was still the short, adorable little brother type. I wondered if he was ever going to grow any taller. 

Speaking of tall, I had a slight crush on this 3rd year in Gryffindor. His name was Jack Kelly, and pretty much every other girl in our year and any year younger thought he was hot. (I mean, they aren't wrong.) Any girl older than our year thought he was an adorable charmer who could weasel his way out of any sticky situation.

It was wishful thinking of me to think that Jack would ask me out on a date.

"Come on, Addi! Please?" he begged. 

I ruffled his hair again like last year. "No can do, Shorty. I'm going with a few other people."

Spot sighed and walked away sadly, the bounce in his step gone.

I turned to go up the staircase to my common room, and was met with red and black robes.

"Whoa." I stepped back, seeing who I was about to bump into.

Just my luck: it was Jack Kelly.

"Oh hey, Addi." he said a bit quietly. Not like his loud, usual self at all. "I wanted to know...uh...did you want to go on a date with me to Hogsmeade this weekend?"

I froze, blushing furiously. Never in a million years did I think that Jack would ask me out.

"Dzasdh....sure!" I stuttered.

Jack smiled. "Great! I'll wait by your common room at 9 on Saturday."

I waved him goodbye and turned back to the stairs. I saw Spot standing at the top of the stairs, his face holding an expression of heartbreak. I didn't see what he saw in me, and I only saw him as a little brother. He wasn't really the "boyfriend" type for me.

Saturday morning at 9, I walked out of my common room, and Jack engulfed me in a bone-crushing hug. 

"Ready?" he asked me, taking my hand.

And off we went to Hogsmeade.

Don't get me wrong, that Hogsmeade trip was great, but it didn't go the way I expected. Jack felt a little drawn away, and I could tell that he had some other problem to deal with. I felt a little of my crush on Jack disappear.

I made my way to the library to get an essay finished, but the Hogsmeade trip with Jack still didn't sit well with me. I put my head down on the table, and let out a sigh.

"Jack's date with you didn't go too well?" a familiar voice said.

"Hey, Spot." I answered tiredly, looking up.

Spot smiled sadly and sat down next to me, closing up my books and parchment, putting them neatly in a pile on the corner of the table. He pulled me into a hug, which I would've stayed in if Madam Pince hadn't shooed us out. I quickly gathered my things, with Spot patiently and politely handing me the things I needed. We rushed out of the library until we reached the entrance to my common room. 

"Good night, Addi." Spot said softly.

I smiled. "Good night, Spot." 

He turned to leave, but I stopped him, grabbing his arm. "Wait!"

He turned back around, and I kissed him on the cheek. He blushed furiously, and stuttered a "Thank you." before waving good bye and leaving to the dungeons.

I myself was giddy with what happened, having a idiotic grin on my face as I walked to my dorm. As I passed my friends in the common room, they noticed my grin and asked me about it. I only told them that I had something important to finish, and left them to their curiosity.

Well that took longer than expected. This was getting a bit long, so I'm extending it to two parts. Maybe even three. I don't know.
