Ben Cook ~ Snowed In

Requested by evpsd10

It's a bit early for Christmas, but here's a sort of winter/Christmas themed one-shot. I think my next one-shot will be Christmas themed too.

~~~
I sighed, walking back and forth in the same two foot square in front of my chair, trying to calm my nerves. And me shivering didn't help; it was close to the end of fall and was chilly out. I was about to audition for Mean Girls, hoping for the position of Gretchen Wieners. Even if I got the swing part for that it'd be just as great.
"Nervous?" a voice asked from beside me. I stopped pacing and looked over to my right to see a boy with blonde curls and the prettiest blue eyes I had seen.
Well if love at first sight's for suckers, I must be one of the biggest losers out there. I thought to myself.
"Oh! Uhm...yeah." I stuttered. The boy grinned at me.
"I'm Ben. Nice to meet you." he said, holding out a hand to shake. "Nice to see someone else just as nervous and willing to talk as I am."
"Emma. Nice to meet you too." I replied, shaking his hand. "Talking doesn't normally help me settle my nerves, though." I remarked.
"Oh." Ben said, his smile disappearing. "I'll leave you to your thoughts, then."
"Oh no! It's fine!" I hurriedly said, trying to cover up my mistake. God, why was I such a mess around people I like?
"It's just...I'm not used to talking to people to calm me down before auditions or anything. It's new for me." I explained. "You didn't do anything wrong. And who knows? Maybe I'll find a new habit that works for me."
Ben's smile appeared again. "Yeah. It's nice making new friends."
"Especially if you're a loner." I muttered.
"Well, you have me. So you're not a loner anymore." Ben said with a lopsided grin.
I smiled back, pacing again. A moment of silence passed before Ben spoke again.
"Hey, did you maybe wanna grab a coffee or something after auditions?" he asked somewhat hesitantly.
I stopped pacing and smiled at him again. "Of course! To celebrate our success."
~~~

Auditions didn't go so well, I knew that much. But that was okay, I always had another chance for another show. Ben was waiting for me by the doors as I came out. I hurried over to him. He looked up from his phone and smiled when he saw me.

"Come on. Let's get our 'coffee or something'." I said, quoting Ben from earlier.

He laughed as he opened the door and walked out, holding the door for me, and we were on our way.

We ended up going to a quaint little bookstore on the corner, grabbing a coffee from their self-serve coffee machine. It was nice to be someplace quiet; in my exploration of this town, I don't think I've ever seen this place.

"You've got to look for the un-special places, Emma. The places that nobody goes to." Ben told me. I must've said that out loud. "Those places are the best."

"Hmmm, I've got to take some advice from you, then." I laughed.

Ben laughed with me, his face slightly pink. It was only a few hours, but it seemed as if he had already liked me. No, that couldn't be possible. He was such a talented and funny actor, how could he like someone like me?

"Because you're amazing." Ben muttered quietly so that I strained to hear.

My cheeks went red, and I buried my face in my hands.

"Hey, don't go all turtle on me." Ben joked.

I raised my head, my blush still evident. "You really think I'm that great?"

"Hey, don't sell yourself short!" Ben scolded gently, paying for the bill and standing up. "You just need the right thing to do, with the right encouragement. But how about we put that aside for now? Let's have some fun."

We walked out of the shop, with me staying thoughtfully quiet.

Turns out, we got snowed in two days later, and Ben had trudged through the snow all the way from his apartment two blocks away just to say hi to me.

"Oh my gosh, Ben. Are you trying to kill yourself? It's freezing and snowing out there!" I exclaimed, ushering him inside.

The poor boy was slightly shivering, and was bundled up in jackets. Even after he warmed up, he was still shivering; though I couldn't understand why.

The weather report came on the T.V., saying that there would be more snow for the coming day, so we should all avoid the streets if possible. I put my favorite Christmas movie in, and played it.

"Would ya look at that?" Ben remarked, taking a sip of his hot chocolate I made. "We're getting snowed in."

I looked at him, and he had a slight smile on his face. I smiled at him knowingly. "Something tells me you planned on getting stuck here."

He didn't say anything, only stared ahead at the T.V. I sighed and got some blankets from the closet, throwing one at Ben. I wrapped the other one around me like a cape, and sat next to Ben as he draped the blanket over us.

"I know it's only been a few days since we've met, but I feel like we've been together for longer." I said.

Ben looked down at me. "Yeah. Speaking of which..."

I leaned back as far as I could to see him. "Hmmm?"

"D'you wanna be my girlfriend?" he said muttered quietly.

"What?"

"D'you wanna be my girlfriend?" he asked a little louder, his face growing pinker by the second.

I smiled up at him, giving him a kiss on his cheek. I felt a blush of my own appearing on my face. "Aww, you're so cute. Of course I'll be your girlfriend."

Ben gave me a proper kiss this time, his hands gripping my cold ones. "I've been waiting to do that ever since I've met you."

I smiled as I leaned my head back on Ben, who absentmindedly ran his fingers through my hair. The movie finished before I knew it, and I got up to make more hot chocolate. As I stood by the counter waiting for the water, I could hear a soft song being played from my living room.

I looked over the kitchen island to see Ben had figured out how to turn on my music system and play music. As more of the song played, I could hear that it was Pentatonix's song, "That's Christams To Me."

The fireplace is burning bright, shining all on me
I see the presents underneath the good old Christmas tree
And I wait all night 'til Santa comes to wake me from my dreams
Oh, why? 'Cause that's Christmas to me

I smiled, going back to making my hot chocolate. I had just poured in the water and started stirring when a pair of arms wrapped around me, and gently pulled me away from the counter and to in front of the fireplace. (I didn't have a table there)

I see the children play outside, like angels in the snow
While mom and daddy share a kiss under the mistletoe
And we'll cherish all these simple things wherever we may be
Oh, why? 'Cause that's Christmas to me

Ben twirled me around, an adoring smile on his face. I laughed, following his movements.

I've got this Christmas song in my heart
I've got the candles glowing in the dark
I'm hanging all the stockings by the Christmas tree
Oh, why? 'Cause that's Christmas to me
Oh, why? 'Cause that's Christmas to me

Ben held my hand as he twirled, pulling me to him before stepping away and dragging me to the slightly-unfurnished-except-for-a-small-Christmas-tree-that-I-put-up-every-year spare room I had in my apartment. It had a skylight, which I loved. I could just lie in there, staring at the sky.

I listen for the thud of reindeer walking on the roof
As I fall asleep to lullabies, the morning's coming soon
The only gift I'll ever need is the joy of family
Oh, why? 'Cause that's Christmas to me

This time though, the lights and sky were dark, the only glow coming from the tree's twinkling lights. Ben swung me around with a sweeping movement, and I fanned out with a flourish, coming back in to kiss him.

I've got this Christmas song in my heart (song in my heart)
I've got the candles glowing in the dark
I'm hanging all the stockings by the Christmas tree
Oh, why? 'Cause that's Christmas to me
Oh, why? 'Cause that's Christmas to me

I spun away from Ben, stopping right before the big French doors that opened up to a balcony. I smiled as I watched the snow fall, the streets already almost empty in the icy weather. My smile grew bigger when Ben came up behind me and wrapped his arms loosely around my waist, his breath tickling my neck.

Oh, all the joy that fills our hearts and makes us see
Oh, why? 'Cause that's Christmas to me

I've got this Christmas song in my heart
I've got the candles glowing in the dark
And then for years to come we'll always know one thing
That's the love that Christmas can bring
Oh, why? 'Cause that's Christmas to me

"Merry early Christmas." Ben muttered to me.

I laughed, leaning my head back on his chest.

"Merry early Christmas." I agreed.

ok so, idk what NY weather is like most of the time, so bear with me if the weather predictions are inaccurate. And correct me if need be; i don't want to have incorrect things in my writing whenever possible. It just takes away from the story.

But, hopefully, I got most of it accurate.

Hope you enjoyed! Tell me if anything needs to be changed! :)
