Rwby's POV:
"She works hard to try to complete the assignment by Friday. She knows the boss will be pleased with her efforts. Why can't the others see this as more important than some stupid present? She honestly can't understand why they want to make so much out of the whole thing."
It was not as if she could have known the office personnel would plan to celebrate it. What was it called again? Ah, yes, Boss's Day. As if the boss would care about such matters. He never participated in the other holidays, so why should this day be any different?
She saw her boss as Scrooge because he never gave out Christmas gifts and seemed off-standish about receiving them. She knew this because that is what she heard from a former employee. Besides, did not the basic other holidays count for something? Why should she worry her little head about some notion that today was needed? Ha, she laughed at the very idea.
"At lunch, she had a brilliant idea, which upset the others. However, she was determined not to let them ruin her day. She was confident that nothing could derail her career, not even a tough boss or unpleasant co-workers."
When she set her mind to something, she stuck with it. She was determined to prove herself as the best worker, and deserving of the upcoming promotion. She would show them all, she has what it takes.
After lunch, she was so engrossed in her work that she nearly missed her boss's special announcement. He stood at attention with a microphone in front of him. The others snarked behind her back but she knew they were talking about her. That was as clear as it was that the boss was annoyed big time.
"It has come to my attention that not everyone understands what today is about. Well, I have come to share with you the exact importance of that day," He began.
Rwby felt she missed something important because his speech continued for two hours. How could he possibly have that to share about a made-up holiday, anyway? It is not as if it held any true value to it.
The boss finished his speech and the others clapped. Some cheered. A few even had tears in their eyes. Rwby sat there in shock. Honestly, can you believe him? The man who did not know an actual holiday if a toad spoke and said something about it was excited about today. Agh, had they all gone crazy? What was she to do about it?
Weiss walked past her and rolled her eyes. Blake gave her a sympathetic look. Yang shook her head, and Sun sneered at her. "Told you, new girl, but did you listen, no..." He says with a hint of sarcasm.
Rwby stood up and walked away. She entered the longue area. She needed time to think. Think about how to save her job and the promotion. Where had it all gone wrong?
She heard someone weeping and turned around. She did not realize she was not alone until then. She looked at him and gasped. Who was he? "Hi, I am Rwby, and you are?" She asked.
"Hi, I am Neptune. Nice to meet you, Rwby," He said. "Why were you crying?" She wanted to know. " It is a holiday, and I don't get paid enough for even one gift to give the boss. I know when he finds out he will be angry." Neptune says. "Well, that is hardly fair when you can't help it if he doesn't pay enough,' Rwby scoffs.
The boss, Mr. Juane Arc (pronounced John) enters the longue and smirks. "So, Rwby Rose, was it?" He asks as he approaches her. "Yes, sir," Rwby says. "I must say I am impressed with your hard work." He says."Why thank you, boss," Rwby tells him. "As for you, Neptune, why are you in here instead of out there with the others having a great time?" He asks. "Sir, I was afraid," Neptune says. "Afraid, you needn't be afraid, son, now get back out there," He says. Neptune nods his head and leaves to join the others.
"Rwby, it has been brought to my attention that you have not taken this holiday seriously, why is that?" He inquiries. "It is only that I don't have any presents and I was embarrassed sir," She says. "I see, well, I will tell you what, I will promise to overlook that since she finished Friday's report and you will go out there and strut your stuff," He says with a flip of his hair.
"Are you flirting with me, boss?" Rwby asks. She blushes. "What if I am?"
Juane returns to the festivities, leaving Rwby there with a shocked look. She can't believe it. Not only is he not angry, but he commends her for all her hard work. Plus, he encourages her to dance with the others. It is almost as if he...No, way. She shook her head.
It had been years since Prryha had gone missing. Only two years ago the Grime vanished causing them to revert to being normal people who had to find real jobs. Goodness, that was something else. She tries hard to read much into it. Sure her boss leans close to her when he speaks, sounds quiet when he says her name, and acts like he likes her. Doesn't he do that with the other lady employees too?
She enters the workroom and sees the others dancing since the chairs are all stacked up, the computers moved to the side, and a few are eating. She sees him glance at her with a grin. She shakes her head. The notion her boss is crushing on her is ridiculous, right? There was no way he saw her like that none at all.
She dances and starts to twirl. Neptune dances with her, then, Sun. Sun trades off with their boss when he slips him a twenty and whispers in his ear. Sun nods his head and goes to dance with Blake. He blushes when she winks at him.
Rwby dances and gets real into it. She has no idea how, but somehow this day turned out to be better than she imagined. How was that even possible?
The end...
