Cayde-6 x Reader
Cute little oneshot
———
I found Cayde-6 sitting by the Tower wall one night, his gaze fixated on the stars.
With his legs dangling over the edge, as usual. He always had to have a sense of danger with whatever he did. It was stupid and reckless, sure, but at least I was confident that he wouldn't go jumping off the wall for fun. Or would he? Who knows. This is Cayde-6 we're talking about. Anything could happen.
"He looks lonely, doesn't he?"
My Ghost startled me enough to make me flinch. His blue iris glowed softly against his shell as he peered curiously under my hood.
"He's probably just watching the stars." I spoke in a quiet voice, hoping Cayde didn't overhear me. There was around 30 feet between us, but I wasn't sure how good an Exo's hearing was. "Are you trying to get me to talk to him?"
"Maybe." Ghost admitted with a playful shrug-like gesture. "You've been avoiding him ever since that incident on Nessus."
I inwardly cringed. "Don't remind me. That was the most embarrassing moment of my life."
"What about the time you put salt instead of sugar in Zavala's coffee? I've never seen him spit a drink out so fast."
"Okay, that's enough from you." I huffed, putting him away before he had a chance to say anything else. Sometimes I wish he didn't remember everything that ever happened to me.
Letting out a soft sigh, I slowly rose to my feet. I slipped two fingers under my hood and swept it off my head as I began striding towards the unsuspecting Hunter Vanguard.
Cayde-6 jumped with a light gasp upon hearing me plop down beside him. He turned his head, his signature grin plastered across his face. "Geez... you scared me!" He playfully elbowed my side. After things grew quiet again, he sighed and turned his gaze back towards the night sky. "I thought you'd be fast asleep by now. Then again, I don't think anyone follows that curfew ol' blueberry face put in place anyways."
I had to chuckle at that. "True. Especially you." I jabbed at him teasingly.
"Well of course. I mean, who goes to bed that early?" Cayde exclaimed. "Probably Ikora... But that doesn't explain why she's always so grumpy in the morning.. Do you think she stays up late reading those boring books of hers?"
I giggled softly and scooted closer, my shoulder brushing against his. "I think she does, Cayde." I said with a small smile. A moment passed where we were both just admiring the vast night sky before us. "So.. what are you doing out here all alone? You've seen the stars more than a million times."
Cayde-6 fidgeted with his fingers in his lap, his gaze still fixated on the stars. I could tell something was on his mind. "I don't know. It's... peaceful, I guess. Besides, you can never see the same night sky twice, right? Or is that just a myth? If it is, I'm asking that old dude on the corner for my glimmer back." He grumbled, his optic ridges furrowing.
"I say get your glimmer back anyways." I laughed, shaking my head. "I could've told you that, Cayde! Free of charge!"
"Oh puh-lease! Everyone knows old people are full of wisdom!" He exclaimed, dramatically throwing his hands up. "Wait, does that mean I'm full of wisdom too?"
"I mean, you are probably over hundreds of years old... I don't think it's that kind of wisdom though." I snickered and dodged an elbow from him. "You are wise in your own way, Cayde. Just think of it like that."
Cayde-6 blinked at me, those lovely blue optics of his wide with curiosity. Then, he smiled and laid his head on my shoulder. "Thanks. At least someone believes so."
I blushed, warmth spreading throughout my cheeks like a wildfire. After getting over the initial shock, I slipped my arm around him and held him close. I pressed my cheek against the top of his head, feeling the worn fabric of his cloak against my skin.
Nights like these truly made me feel like I belonged in this universe. Like I belonged at Cayde's side. And I wouldn't have it any other way.
