chapter 51 | Baby

"I won't answer your stupid questions anymore, Joonha," she refuses to say it when I wanted to hear her opine herself on that, and before any of them could say one more thing, our guest rings the doorbell, and I become even more nervous. I move towards the door to open it myself, and once I face him, I catch sight of some features I did not expect to be like that.

"Good evening," I greet him and his daughters, and he bows back to me. "Good evening," he smiles, carrying the smaller girl in his arms while holding the other's hand. I let them come in, and once they are all inside the house, I close the door and peek at y/n.

"Good evening, it's nice to meet you, finally," Joonha inches closer and squats down in front of the little girls, and y/n hugs Moosaeng. "It's nice to meet you too. After all that I heard about you," he smiles, rubbing y/n's back and causing me to avert my eyes from them. "We heard about you too, you're the amazing man y/n often brings up," he already does his best to make him comfortable with us, and he responds pretty positively.

"Ah, I'm pleased to be seen that way," he shows some delight, and he takes his daughters' shoes off, both of them remaining very close to him. I do not say anything but observe the way he behaves near y/n, the way he looks at her, touches her.

"Are they both scared of dogs?" my son randomly asks, and he shrugs. "Well. They're never been close to any dogs, but I do believe they are. Why? Do you have one?"

"I have a puppy, but y/n told me it was better to keep him in my room at the beginning so that your girls can get comfortable," he explains what was said earlier, and he straightens up, but I set my focus on y/n's eyes, which are directed towards one of his daughters who is holding her hand. "Oh, you don't have to if it's a puppy. As long as they don't get too close to them, it should be alright. They might even like them."

"Oh, I'm going to come back with him then because he's my baby, and I feel bad to know him all alone upstairs," he hurries to go and get Choco, but forces me to be the one to speak now. While she is taking care of one of the daughters, he looks at them both with a smile upon his face.

"Would you like a drink?" I put my hands in my pockets, and he nods. "I'd love a glass of water for me, and one for my daughters, please," he picks his other daughter up. "Sure. You can sit down on the sofa or chairs, it will be much easier with the girls," I invite him to take a seat, and he sits at the table while I am getting him the drinks. I grab two glasses and fill them with cold water but listen to what is being talked about.

"Was the ride fine? Were they a bit curious?" her smile resounds through her delicate voice, and I turn around to go back to them. "Yes, they were pretty excited because they knew they'd see you," he looks up at me when I stand by his side, and I put the glasses down in front of him. He thanks me, and I go back to the kitchen to get a big bottle of water and another glass so that both babies can have one, then I join them at the table.

"Did you cut your hair?" he sips on his drink, his daughter sitting on his lap and drinking very carefully too. "I did a little bit, I needed to because it was becoming a mess," she gazes up at me, and I lean forth to bring the drinks down, and I sit down next to her but see Joonha coming back too, with Choco in his arms. "Don't say that, you're always pretty no matter what, and your hair was good the way it was before," he flatters her, telling her words that she will like to hear.

I will not be against it because he is being nice, not appropriate.

"Oh, here's the puppy," he gets slightly surprised by him, and Joonha sits down next to him, getting both of the girls' attention over him. "He's very kind and won't bite even if your daughters stretch their hand out towards him, so don't be worried," he reassures him, petting his baby. "Well, they don't seem to be scared, but I'm still a bit apprehensive,"

"I understand, it's okay. I'll keep him close to me, he loves to sleep a lot anyway," he smiles and makes him lie down on his lap, and I serve myself a glass of water. "So, just to make sure I don't make a mistake," Moosaeng gazes at me. "You are Jungkook, 'Mister Jeon' as I heard the most," he gets me to smile and nod, and he lays eyes on my son. "And you are Joonha, am I right?"

"You are," he confirms. "But let's hear about you. When did you meet y/n?"

"I met her back in two thousand and nineteen, she was an intern, and starting from that day, we never lost contact because I then hired her at my shop," he summarizes it to not give a long story. "And how was she back then? Was she even more shy?" he attempts to know the younger y/n we did not get to be with, and he chuckles. "She was. She's always been a very calm and lovely person, but she was more introverted."

"I'm not surprised," he grins and peeks at her, briefly. "Did you quickly get along?"

"We did," he smiles, often gazing at y/n and recalling everything for sure. "We got along very easily, I knew that I could trust her and count on her when there would be a problem at the shop, then I started knowing more about her, so I become very protective of her, and it just kept growing."

"Jeez, you're the best boss I've ever heard of, seriously," he glances down at Choco to fix his collar. "Well, I don't consider her as an employee anymore. I mean, she is, obviously because she still works for me, but I never call her my employee. She's like a third daughter to me."

"That explains, but that's great. You were the good person she deserved and needed the most," he finds the right words, already seeming to be putting his trust in him. "Oh well, she was...She was the one I needed the most too. She came into my life at the right time, so I'm happy that I met her."

I scratch my ear and lean back, but feel a small hand touch my arm. I gaze down at the adorable girl who asked for my attention, but she grins and glances away as if she was playing and hides her face in y/n's chest.

This reminds me so much of when Joonha was as small as she is. I miss being able to hold my baby in my arms, no matter how proud I am to see him grow and become a good man, this hurts, somehow.

"What's her name?" I ask y/n, in a low voice. "Luna, she's the youngest one, and she's Lily," she draws attention to the one sitting on her father's lap, and I nod. "Those are pretty names."

"Yes, I love their names," she smiles and runs her fingers through the girl's long hair, but she raises her eyes up to me, fiddling with the flimsy neck of y/n's dress. "Are your daughters allergic to anything? Like, some certain types of food?" I direct my eyes to him, not remaining too quiet or looking like I am ignoring him.

"Lily is allergic to all kinds of tree nuts, but Luna doesn't have any problem with anything," he shows them to me so that I do not mistake them, so I memorize everything in order to make sure I do not cook anything they will not be able to eat. "Alright."

"How do you find out when a child has allergies though? Isn't it difficult to know?" Joonha's curiosity comes out, and I let Moosaeng answer him. "Well, in my case, Lily had a severe allergic reaction, so at first, she was complaining a lot and crying, but I didn't know the reason why she was behaving like that, and I thought she was just tired or a bit too demanding, but when I noticed that she had red spots on her body, then her lips started to swell, that I could hear in her breathing that something was wrong because she was having a hard time to breathe, that's when I hurried to the emergency, and they treated her and told me it was an allergic reaction. It's a very stressful and difficult moment for a parent, especially for a parent like me, I was worried sick."

"Honestly, I can understand because Choco was once— I mean, I'm not comparing your child to my puppy, but he's like a baby to me, and he means as much as a human does," he explains himself as I got a bit concerned since I know what it is to have a child, and Moosaeng chuckles. "I know, don't worry. My wife used to be the same with her dog," he mentions her, making me pray for Joonha to remember what y/n said about this topic. "Ah, I'm relieved then because he once was acting really weird and kinda breathing in an unusual manner, and I remember that I was already panicking and crying when I took him to the vet. I was freaking out, but so much that I was about to go to the emergency, but my dad was here and drove us to the vet."

"Yeah, the emergency wouldn't have helped at all, but I understand you, we do stuff we don't even realize when we're in a state of panic, and pets are as important as humans to some people," he shows empathy, not shaming him for feeling that way about an animal. "Exactly. And in my opinion, some animals deserve much more love than humans do. When you see the type of horrible stuff they are capable of doing..."

"I agree with you on this point, humans can be worse than animals," they both share the same opinion, making me feel like they are hinting at the one who made y/n go through hell. "But anyway, let's talk about great things in front of those innocent babies. What is your name, little angel?" he leans closer to his daughter, and this one smiles, shyly. "Lily."

"Oh, what a pretty name you have, and how old are you?" he gets her to be more at ease, to become more familiar with us. She does not answer but counts on her fingers, and I internally laugh at how adorable she is. "I am six years old," she shows the number with both of her hands, Moosaeng smiling at her. "Wow. You're a big girl then. You're soon going to be as tall as I am."

She giggles and looks up at her dad.

"I guess it's useless to try to talk to Luna," he attempts the get her attention, but Moosaeng affirms his assumption. "Yes. She's very shy, and she cannot talk like her sister does yet."

"Alright, I'll leave her alone then," he looks down at Choco, and he continues to talk to him.

8:20 pm.

I lay every dish on the table to serve dessert, and I move back to the kitchen to get the two smaller ones, and I bring them to the little girls, for who I baked their favorite dessert.

I place it right in front of them, remembering that Luna is the one with two ponytails and butterfly hair clips, and Lily is the one with space buns and two bows. "Thank you, Mister," she respectfully shows gratitude, in her small baby voice. "You're welcome, sweetie," I smile and sit down next to y/n. "I hope they will like it, I tried my best."

"Oh, don't worry. They're not picky at all," he reassures me, and once I see her take a second spoon of the banana pudding, the relief reduces the tension in my body. I dig in the tiramisu but check Luna's reaction, the two girls sitting on a chair to allow Moosaeng and y/n to eat. She plunges her spoon into the strawberry mousse and focuses on it, she carefully takes a big amount of it and brings it to her mouth. I watch her facial expression to tell if she likes it, and she does not wait before eating more.

I can relax, both of them enjoy their food.

"This is delicious, Jungkook. Thank you for cooking all of that," he kindly comments, and I smile. "No problem. I'm glad you like it."

"What about Luna and Lily? Do you like your food?" Joonha asks the two, with who he played before dinner and dessert, and who now apparently like him a lot. "Yes," Lily answers, and Luna only nods to not stop eating. "I'm even happier then," I do not keep it to myself, and Lily smiles.

"Do they always behave like angels when they're home, or they're that calm just because they're here?" he suspects, feeling like they are too quiet to be real. "They are usually calm, but when we're home, Lily tends to talk a lot and be very curious about literally everything, which is not a bad thing, but she will question me about literally everything she sees," he laughs. "On the other hand, Luna is always pretty calm but still curious, and she loves to spend time drawing, but a lot, even if I give her toys, she'll always for some pens instead so that she can draw in her sketchbook, and that's why she reminds me a lot of y/n. Her personality is very similar to hers."

"She'll be a little evil in the future then," he teases her in front of Moosaeng, and he chuckles but looks at her. "That's not true. She's an angel."

"Hm, I see. You only show the cute and lovely girl when you're with him," he does not give her a break, not even when a guest is home, and she smiles. "Sure. Try as much as you want, but he won't believe you. He knows I'm a sweet girl."

"Sometimes a sweet bug, but still sweet," he grins and gets Joonha to be proud of himself. "Ah, see. Told you."

"I'm joking, sweetheart, I'm just annoying you," he quickly corrects himself, seeming as weak as I am for her, but she cannot even respond, Luna asks to get on her lap, holding her glass with both hands to not let go of her dessert. "Daddy's being mean to me, honey," she whispers to her in a loud voice so that he can hear, but the word she used gets me to unconsciously show some bother. "Be kind to aunt y/n, daddy," Lily gives a small tap on his hand, and he laughs. "I am kind. I'm just bugging her, baby."

I gaze at y/n to see her reaction but catch Luna staring at me, she quickly looks away and takes a spoon of the strawberry mousse. She is such a cute baby.

9 pm.

"See you next time," Joonha waves at Lily and Luna now that they are leaving. "Goodbye," they both answer with the same gesture, smiling at the one who made them both enjoy their time the most. "Goodbye, angels. Sleep well and have sweet dreams."

I smile at how gentle he is with them, and they both leave to enter their dad's car. Once they are in, Moosaeng heads towards us. "Thank you so much for everything tonight, I really appreciate it, and I'm glad I met you two," he addresses us. "You both are good people, and I wanted to thank you for taking care of y/n."

"Thanks to you, you're the most important person in her life, so thank you for always being there for her," I make sure he knows how significant he is, and he smiles. "Could we talk alone for a minute though? I need to tell you some things in private," I request, and he accepts without thinking twice. Y/n moves forth to hug him and says goodbye. "See you and have a good night. Be careful on the road."

"See you, sweetheart," he drops a kiss on her head, and she moves back, and Joonha tells him goodbye as well before going back into the house with y/n to leave us alone. "You can tell me," he looks into my eyes, and I put my hands in my pockets.

"I'm going to be honest with you because I don't want to hide it or anything, since I got into a relationship with y/n, I've been wondering about how you feel exactly with y/n. I just want you to tell me the truth, and you can tell me if it makes you uncomfortable or if you believe this is inappropriate, but I just want to make sure you do love her as a daughter and not more," I doubt, fearing that he might not like what I imply by it, but he smiles, calming my concern. "I understand why you ask me that, but I can assure you that I never, do not, and will never love her romantically, neither am I attracted to her in any way. She is just like a daughter, and she means the world to me, so do not worry, I promise that I have never seen her as more than a daughter."

"Alright, I just want to hear it from you and have your point of view since I've been dating her now, and I was just a bit unsure, but I'm relieved you didn't get offended or bothered by it," I relax now that he is showing no discomfort about this matter. "I'm not. I knew this would come at some point, and I don't blame you. You don't know me, so it's understandable to have some assumptions or be distrustful. No worries."

"Good, I'm not going to keep you for longer, your daughters must be waiting," I smile and notice them both looking out of the window. "I just want to thank you again, I'm glad I could meet you and see you in person since you're the most important person in y/n's life."

"I think the same about you, it helped me to relieve a lot of stress because I needed to meet you both and see how you are in real life, and your son is such a good person, you raised him well. He managed to make my little girls feel comfortable very quickly around you, and that doesn't happen that often, so I was really happy to see them enjoy their time," he expresses a lot of delight, and I smile. "I'm glad to hear it."

"Well, then, I wish you all a good night, and thank you for everything again," he bows to me, and I do it back. "I wish you all a good night as well," I let him leave in his car but wait before going back into my house, and once he starts the car, I wave at Luna and Lily, and they both do it in return to say goodbye, then Moosaeng drives away.

I step back inside and lock the door, but already get greeted by Joonha and y/n who are sitting at the table.

"So," he smiles at me, broadly. "That made you want another child, right?" he does not forget about this, and I shake my head out of disbelief but scoff. "Joonha...We had a talk about that already," I remind him of the other day's conversation we had together.

/ flashback \

"Dad, would you really be against the thought of having another child?" he asks me while eating the rest of his breakfast, taking the opportunity of y/n already being on the way to work. "I'm not against it, but you know very well that it's too early to even think about having a child."

"I know, but let's imagine that we're in the future, you both are enjoying your life together and stuff, and you're used to being with each other as a couple. Wouldn't you want to have a baby with her?" he makes me picture everything, and with no surprise at all, I am not opposed to it. "I don't know. We're not at that stage yet, I don't know if she would want to have a child—"

"She does, we were talking about it the other day, and she said she'd have loved to have a child," he reveals, letting me know about something pretty positive. I glance down at my glass and take a sip of wine. "Well, that's great then, but I can't tell what will happen in the future. So we'll see, but no, I'm not against it. The thing is that, even if we ever have a child, you'll be in college, so you won't even be able to see or be around them that much."

"Depends when you have them. I'm gonna start in March, and it will last for four years before going to Medical school, but only if I get the bachelor's degree, so since you'll take at least two years to settle down together and be ready to think about that stuff, and also, nine more months of pregnancy, I won't be far away for too long, especially if I come here every weekend."

"It's still almost ten years, if not more, and even if you only think about the first two years, I can tell you that a baby changes a lot, they are important years, but anyway, let's not rush anything or start thinking about it when we haven't even got used to telling each other 'I love you', so I'd rather take it slow," I give him my opinion since I do not know how y/n feels like that, and he nods, not expressing any disappointment.

/ end of flashback \

"I know, but I saw how much you were smiling each time they would say or do some things," he mentions what he noticed, and I do not deny it. "They reminded me of you when you were as small as them, so of course, I'm going to smile and find them adorable," I tidy up to feel more comfortable. "It made me want to have a daughter, they're so cute, and their small voices are so damn cute, dammit," he cannot restrain the softness he feels for them, and I smile.

"Before having a child, get rid of your arrogance, please, otherwise I won't ever come and see them," y/n stands up, and I smirk but see him throw her a death glare. "I'll tell them not to hug you."

"I won't want to hug them anyway," she smiles at him and drinks the rest of the glass. "See, you're mean, but I'm not even surprised. Anyway, I gotta get those uncomfortable clothes off and play games," he walks towards the stairs to leave, and she does not say anything about it.

Willing to stay here, I lean back on the counter, do not speak but stare at y/n, and she raises her eyes to me to make contact, and she walks up to me. Her rosy lips curving up, she wraps her arms around my waist and gazes up at me. "So? You trust him now?"

"I never said I didn't trust him," I reply, my hands remaining in my pockets. "I just wanted to see him to know what he looks like, the way he speaks, looks at you, and all," I do not specify more than that. "And? What do you think?"

I shrug. "Nothing much. He's a good man. That's it."

"Doesn't seems like it. What upset you?" she feels like I am hiding something. "Nothing," I take my hands out and place them on the edge of the counter behind me. "I'm not upset. I just heard something that stick to my mind."

"What was it? Was it from me?" she worries, but I refuse to say it. "I'm just losing my mind because I need a cigarette," I move away but do it in a gentle manner to not push her away, touching her back and stepping to the left. "Come on. I'm gonna throw those cigarettes out."

"They're too expensive for that," I take one out of the box, but she grabs it and snatches it away from my hold. "If you smoke one, I smoke one too."

I get it back in my hand, not liking this at all. "Do not say that, and you better not ever do this type of thing," I put it in the box, making her understand I do not want her to say these kinds of words. She stays quiet as if she was regretting, and I look into her eyes.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean it," she apologizes. "We can do something instead so that I can help you alleviate the need. We can draw together, we can take a bath and relax, I don't know, but we can try many things until you absolutely need to smoke one because you don't feel good. I don't know..." she does her best, and I lean in to press my lips on hers. "I love you."

"I love you too," she holds me tight. "Let's take a bath, it'll feel good," I slide my hands down to her lower back, and I take her to our bathroom.
