This is my first piñata

I made this for my sister's baby shower

This piñata is made from 2 balloons that were wrapped in glue & newspaper strips.

The balloon for the head was inflated smaller than the body to make the proportions I'm wanted. The shape of the average balloon in perfect on its side to form the head in on direction and the body in thd other direction.

To attach the head to the body, I cut a circle out of the bottom of the head so it would rest nicely on the curved shape of the body. I then made 4 holes on the head & 4 holes on the body to connect the two parts using small zipties, making sure to cut any extra piece of the zipties.

I cut open the "tail" of the body for the candy slot. Make sure to cut the top part of the tail so the candy doesn't fall out. Opening the tail can help in attaching the zipties.

I also figured out where the best place for the larger ziptie to hang the piñata from. In this case, the back of the neck/shoulder area.

Similarly, cut 2 beak shapes out of foam and attack them to the face with glue gun. In the middle of the mouth I added a piece of black foam, & cut out 2 more circular black pieces for the eyes. You can use cardstock instead, too.

You can make legs out of toiletpaper rolls or cardboard, if you want your baby duck to stand.

You can also make a nest or basket for your ducky to sit that is attached or removable. We covered the old black Halloween bucket I had been using to hold the piñata as I worked on it with tissue. (I ran out time to do something better.)

The longer you work on piñatas the more you will learn about how much time any idea can take & how much material you will need.

To get that feather texture I use paper crepé cut in ovals, instead of just tissue. Places like the tail & wings had slightly longer feathers. I worked from the tail to the beak.

It might help to hold the piñata upside down during the tissue process.

As you get closer to tight spots you might have to cut certain feathers to fit, or fold them in half, like around the neck area of the ducky.
