The First Day

6th grade! The big leagues! I had skipped the bus ride over and got my dad to drop me off at school. When I got there we went through the front doors to the cafeteria. I walked on past it and headed down the fifth grade wing to the IMC. I saw nearly all of the 6th grade and realised that I was late. I couldn't see my friends so I sat down on a step in the back while Mrs. Racey, the vice principal, blew her whistle and yelled that that was the 4th time she had had to quiet us down and that if we weren't quiet we would get lunch detentions. We all knew this was a lie and that no one would get any punishment for the teacher were too lazy to try and write a slip.

After 10 minutes  which felt like an eternity of people seeing me sitting alone, teachers started to line up across the hall. Mrs. Racey got up in front of us and blew her whistle again shouting something incoherent.

"Everyone quiet down so you can hear your name as I call them out!" She screamed at us.

Mrs. Sprouse handed her the list of students. Mrs. Sprouse was hated by everyone, even the teachers. She was short, with shoulder length brown hair that she dyed to keep it from turning grey. She always wore sweaters and had a tiny office as her class room.

As the first teacher stood at the top of the steps Mrs. Racey started to call out names in alphabetical order to go with that teacher. After all the A's were called out, the teacher lead them off down the hallway and the next teacher stepped up.As Mrs. Racey started calling names the 2nd one was Barbe.

William Barbe.
