Chapter 24: Therapy session, partying and love

"A therapist!? Carol, are you serious?" I looked at her as she was driving and I couldn't have been more mad at her.

She glanced at me, "You need this, Terry,"

I sighed and ran my hand through my hair, "I do not need to see a therapist," I looked out the window. "I can't believe you did this," I looked back at her.

She sighed but kept her eyes on the road, "I think it would help you, Terry. You haven't been acting the same, and I'm starting to worry," she looked at me and I could see the concern in her eyes.

I stared at her, "I'm fine. I just had a rough few days," I reassured.

"Terry," I looked over at her as she was glancing at me. "You've been like this for weeks," she looked back at the road as I continued to look at her.

I shook my head and stared out the window. I didn't need a therapist, and for all I know, this therapist could be a real nut job who only wants money and gives me some lame ass advice about how fucked up my life is.

News flash, I already know.

We pulled up at a house an hour later and I looked over at Carol, "I thought you were taking me to a therapist?" I questioned as she looked at me.

She nodded then took a piece of paper out of her pocket and looked at it, "This was the address that she gave me," she looked around then met my eyes.

"Well, she might have given you the wrong address," figures.

Carol opened her door and I watched as she looked at me, "Come on, let's go find out," she shut the door and I groaned as I got out of the car and followed her up the driveway.

She knocked on the door once we were in front of it and I couldn't have been more nervous in my life. I never went to a therapist, and if there is one behind this door, I don't know what I'm going to do.

We waited for a moment until the door opened and a woman with red hair was standing there, looking at us. "Hello, may I help you?"

I looked at Carol as she spoke, "Yes, we're here to see Tonia Jones?" I looked back at the woman as she smiled.

"Of course," she moved out of the way. "Come in," we walked inside and she shut the door afterwards. "I will go get her, you may have a seat in the living room," she showed us the living room and Carol thanked her.

We sat down on the couch and I looked over at her, "I hope this isn't a joke or anything," she looked at me as I stared at her. "I thought therapists were supposed to have offices?" I asked.

She shrugged, "I don't know,"

After a moment, I heard footsteps and I saw that red headed woman walk in, smiling, and another woman with blonde hair walking behind her. Although her blonde hair was fading into grey, but it was still blonde.

She smiled at us and shook our hands, "Hello, I'm Tonia," we shook her hand and she turned to the other woman. "This is my wife, Crystal,"

Crystal smiled and shook our hands. I stared at them as they were talking about something and I couldn't have felt a little better knowing that they were gay. I don't know what it is, but knowing that they're married kind of helps my nervousness.

Tonia smiled at me, "You must be Terry," she kept looking at me. "You may follow me," I stood up and watched her look at Carol, "You should stay in here," I looked at Carol as she nodded, then looked at me.

I smiled as I followed her down the hall. Soon enough, we were entering a room which had a desk and a chair. She told me to sit as she went around the desk and looked through the drawers. She pulled out a notebook and walked back around the desk and sat on the edge.

She smiled at me, "So, before we begin, I will ask you some questions just so that I could get to know you better and that will help me understand what you're going through, ok?" she stared at me as I nodded. She smiled, "Ok, so how long have you and your wife, Carol, been married?" she had her pen on the notebook ready to write.

"Six years," I watched as she wrote something down.

She looked back up at me, "Ok, and just so you know, the questions may get a little personal, but feel free to stop me at any time or if you don't feel comfortable answering them," I nodded and watched her. "How did you and her meet?"

I stared at her, "How is this going to help?" I asked as she looked at me.

She smiled, "I like to get to know you before we get into the other things,"

I sighed, "Ok. Um," I paused and stared at her wondering if I should tell her the truth or lie. "We um.. she was my teacher," I stared at her as she nodded and wrote something down. I was confused as to why she didn't freak out or gave me a disgusted look.

She looked at me for a moment, "Is there something wrong?" she asked.

I shook my head, "I was um, just wondering why you weren't questioning me when I told you that she was my teacher,"

She smiled at me, "Well, it's not the first time that I've dealt with these kinds of situations," she chuckled and I stared at her. "I'm a therapist, not a cop. I don't judge people on what they come to me for, and it's not my business to snoop around in their life unless they want me to," she shrugged and I watched her for a moment.

I thought that she was going to be a type of therapist that I have heard about, where they don't really care about your problems because they only want the money. But she's not like that at all, she's different.

She looked up at me, "So, tell me about why you came to see me,"

I sighed, "My wife thinks I need to see someone because of how I've been acting for the last few weeks,"

She nodded, "Any specific reason why she would say that? How have you been acting, and why?"

I shrugged, "I went through some things that put my life at risk, and it did something to me, and I don't know how to explain it,"

She nodded and wrote something in her notebook. "Ok, so tell me what you went through," she stared at me.

I sighed, "Well," where do I begin?

*

After I told Tonia everything, we sat there in silence beside the noise of her pen on the notebook. I watched as she was writing things down and I was curious on what she was writing.

She finally looked up and met my eyes, "That's a very interesting story and to be honest, I have never heard anything like it before," she stared at me. "I can understand why you're acting differently and why your wife is worried," I nodded and watched her. "So, what I got from what you told me, I understand that you were traumatised by the experiences, and that dream you told me about, was most likely from the drugs that were in that drink," she wrote something down then looked at me. "I want to know how you feel at this moment,"

I sat there, staring at her for a moment. "I feel fine right now,"

She nodded, "Explain to me how you were feeling a few weeks ago," she watched me.

"I didn't feel like myself," she nodded. "I felt different, but I had this feeling where I didn't know if I was really living or if I was just dreaming again," she wrote something down and I watched her.

"The only solution that I could think of, as to why you had that dream and why it felt so surreal, is probably not only from those drugs, but most likely what you went through. If someone goes through an experience in their life where they're put in situations that are entirely different and, or dangerous, then they could experience nightmares and be traumatised from it for a while until their subconscious mind settles back to normal,"

I stared at her as I was trying to process everything she just told me. It made sense, but at the same time, it didn't.

She smiled at me, "I know you probably don't understand what I just said, but know that you'll be fine as long as you take it easy and try to rest as much as possible," she suggested.

I nodded and watched as she sat her notebook down on the desk as she stood up. I stood up also and she pulled me into a hug. It caught me off guard but I wrapped my arms around her and hugged her back.

She rubbed my beck and I heard her speak, "You're going to be fine, sweetheart," she pulled back and looked at me. "Go get some rest, ok?" I nodded and she walked to the door as I was following her out.

We walked into the living room where I saw Carol talking to Crystal. When she saw us, she stood up and smiled. Tonia went to her wife as I did mine. I smiled at her as she looked at me, "Well?" she looked at Tonia as she was smiling.

"She's going to be fine," she looked at me. "Just follow my advice," she stared at me and I nodded.

We said our goodbyes and Carol grabbed my hand as we were walking out of the door. She stopped as we were in front of the car and she looked at me. "Did she help you?" she asked.

I nodded, "I think so,"

She smiled, "I hope so," she tucked my hair behind my ear and stared at me.

I smiled, "Everything is going to be fine," I reassured.

She nodded, "Ok baby," she pulled me into a hug and I hugged her back.

I knew everything was going to be ok.

*

"You went to see a therapist?"

I nodded as I took a bite of pizza. Genevieve looked me over and I stared at her. "What?" I said with a mouth full of pizza.

She made a face, "Gross," she looked away and I chuckled. After I took a sip of my drink to wash the pizza down, she looked back at me. "So, what did the nut say?"

I chuckled, "She wasn't a nut. She actually wasn't that bad," she raised an eyebrow. "She was pretty damn good,"

She nodded, "Well, that's good. At least you're better, right?"

I smiled, "I think so. It's hard to tell since it's only been two days," I shrugged.

It's been two days since I saw Tonia, and I followed her advice by resting, and I felt better. I didn't know if that was going to work, but it did and I owe her.

Well, I think Carol paid her, but whatever.

After a moment, Genevieve spoke, "So, what are your plans for this weekend?" she asked as she was watching me.

I shrugged, "Not sure,"

"Wait," she interrupted. I stared at her as she stared back, "I thought you were supposed to go to therapy for your arm?" she asked.

I nodded, "I was, but I decided not to go. I didn't feel like going, and I honestly was getting better anyways,"

Carol called off the therapy for my arm after I told her that I didn't want to go anymore. She told me that I had to not be doing a lot of things, and I agreed to that.

She nodded, "Well, that's good," she smiled. "Anyways, no plans?" I shook my head and she smiled. "Great. So, would Carol be ok with a party at her house?"

I stared at her for a moment. "I don't know, why?"

She shrugged, "I just thought after everything that happened, and now that it's all over with, we should end this thing with a party," she smiled. "The best damn party ever,"

I sighed, "I don't know if Carol would like that or not,"

"I will personally talk to her, because I am Genevieve Cantrell, and nobody says no to me," she smiled as I chuckled.

"I never knew your last name," she raised her eyebrows.

"Damn, I forgot that," she smiled. "Well, now you do," I chuckled as we sat there and talked for a while.

If she could convince Carol into having a party, then I would be seriously impressed.

*

This was actually happening. I couldn't believe it.

Genevieve walked to me and smiled, "Told you," she ran her hand through her hair as she kept a smile on her face.

I can't believe Carol said yes.

I stared at Genevieve as she smiled at me. "How did you do that?" I asked.

She shrugged, "I told you that nobody says no to me," she chuckled.

I rolled my eyes, "You know why?" she shrugged. "Because of those damn eyes,"

She laughed, "Whatever. What's so special about my eyes?"

Was she for real?

"Do you own a mirror? Your eyes are gorgeous," I heard someone clear their throat and when I turned my head, I saw Carol standing there looking at me. I smiled, "Not at gorgeous as yours baby,"

She rolled her eyes and left the room. I heard Genevieve chuckle and I looked over at her as she was smiling at me. "Nice one,"

I sighed, "Whatever, so, do you have anything for the party? A list of shit to bring? People to invite?" there was so much to do.

She nodded, "I sure do. I have everything we need and as for the people, you can do that because I only have like three friends, plus Ely, and you have like more," she shrugged as I chuckled.

I nodded, "I gotcha. So, call your friends, and I'll call mine, then we can figure everything else out,"

She nodded and took her phone out. I decided to call Richard, of course. Stephanie, Phyllis and Gregory. Oh, and Billy. Those are really the only friends I have, but I don't really care, because that's all I really need.

After we made our phone calls, Genevieve came back and smiled at me, "I got Ely to pick everything up. I trust her enough to not screw it up,"

I chuckled, "Did you get ahold of your friends?"

She nodded, "Yeah, they're coming,"

I smiled, "Good. I can't wait to meet them,"

She smiled, "Yeah, they're really cool. I think you'll like them. No, wait. I know you will like them,"

I chuckled as I watched her for a moment. "You know what, Genevieve," she looked at me as I smiled. "I'm really glad I met you,"

She smiled back, "Aw!"

I chuckled, "I'm serious. You and Elysia are the best people I've ever met, and you're my favourite couple, ever,"

She made a face then pulled me into a hug. After she pulled back, she smiled at me, "Thanks, Terry! That means a lot. We both feel the same about you and Carol. I'm glad I met you," I chuckled as she smiled at me. "Ok, enough with the mushy shit, let's get this party started!"

*

Everything felt too real.

The atmosphere was amazing. The music was awesome, and the food was delicious.

Everything was perfect.

I was sitting with Richard and Elysia at the moment, and everyone else was either dancing or talking. It felt amazing outside at night with the cool breeze blowing and the stars shining bright.

Genevieve and her friends were dancing and watching them was amusing. I met her friends when they first walked through the door, and I instantly liked them from the start.

There was Diane, Elaine and Rose.

I tend to get them confused, especially Diane and Elaine. But, I think I'm getting used to them and which is which. I really do like them though, and Genevieve was right.

I was watching Elysia as she was eating a banana, and I heard a voice that only belonged to Billy, "Damn girl, deep throat that banana,"

I looked at Billy as he was laughing and I heard Elysia start coughing and I couldn't help but laugh. She got up and walked away and I looked at Billy as he watched her then looked at me, "I need a girl that does that but not to a damn banana,"

I kicked his leg, "Ok, get out with your disrespectful ass," I chuckled as he held his leg and looked at me.

"I was only kidding," he rubbed his leg and glared at me.

I shook my head and ignored him as my eyes landed on Carol. She was talking to Phyllis and I couldn't help but smile as I watched her.

"Hey!" I heard a loud voice in my ear. I looked over and saw Genevieve smiling at me.

"Thank you for ruining my hearing," I rubbed my ear and she chuckled.

"This party is awesome," I nodded and looked around then looked back at her as she was smiling. "We did a pretty good job,"

I smiled, "Yeah, who knew," I shrugged and she chuckled. "Maybe we can get jobs as party planners in the whole rehab thing don't work out,"

She laughed, "Yeah! We can make a ton of money and get into parties for free,"

I chuckled and shook my head. I looked around at everyone and smiled. It felt good to not have any more drama in my life. It feels too real, but I know that it only gets better from here on out.

I guess you have to go through pain in order to see the sun shine at the end of the tunnel, and just because it seems like the tunnel never ends, doesn't mean it won't, because at the end of that tunnel, it's about what was worth it in the end.

"Let's dance!" Genevieve shouted as she pulled me up and dragged me to where everyone was dancing.

I laughed as she swung me around and we danced together. It felt amazing to not have a care in the world for once, and it was even more amazing being surrounded by family and friends.

I knew that this was only going to get better from now on, and I honestly couldn't wait for what happens next.
