Chapter 17: Nightmare

Song^ I Killed a Man by Tedy

Harge pinned me against the wall while pressing down on my neck. His face was inches from mine and I couldn't get out of his grip no matter how hard I tried. It seemed as though his strength overpowered mine in these situations.

I heard Carol screaming in the background and I saw Harge smile in my face, "Don't worry about her right now," he pressed harder on my neck but I couldn't get his grip to loosen. He chuckled, "I told you that I was going to win, didn't I?" he came towards my ear and whispered, "I always win," he loosened his grip but then instantly punched my stomach.

I bent over in pain but he pulled my hair and made me stand back up. He started digging through his pocket and I saw an object being pulled out as my heart was pounding against my chest. When he pulled the object out in view, my heart stopped.

A knife.

He smiled as he opened it with his teeth while his grip never loosened. He ran the knife down my face and I closed my eyes as he started chuckling. He stopped the knife at my neck but soon started going further down and stopped at my stomach.

I opened my eyes to see him staring at me but soon everything happened in slow motion as the knife entered my stomach and I was soon falling to the ground.

As I lay there, I saw sight of Carol screaming and crying on the floor nearby. I saw Harge make his way to her and pick her up to carry her over his shoulder. She thrashed and screamed but he never let her go.

She cried out, "Terry! Terry!" as everything started fading black, he was walking out the door.

"Terry? Terry!"

I felt someone shake me but I was too weak to move. I kept hearing voices but I didn't recognize them. As I slowly started opening my eyes, I was met by a pair of blue ones who were hovering over me.

I felt a hand caress my cheek as Carol stared at me, "Baby? Are you ok?" she searched my eyes. I felt dizzy but didn't respond. "Do you want some water?" I slowly nodded as my eyes were closing and I heard her get up.

I laid there and thought about that dream I had. I've been having nightmares for a while now and it's terrifying when I wake up because I'm in a fog and I can't think right. It seems the nightmares take a toll on my body and mind, and it's messing me up.

I wish they would stop.

I felt a hand behind my neck and I opened my eyes to see Carol tilting my head up with a glass of water at my lips. I took a sip and laid back down as she sat the glass on the table and laid down with me.

We were both naked from last night, and our body heat was connecting with each other. I felt safe around her and it seems as though she's the only one who can do that.

She kissed my forehead and whispered, "I'm right here, love. I'm not going anywhere," I looked in her eyes as she was staring at me and even in the darkness, I could see her blue orbs.

"These nightmares won't go away," I whispered. I wanted to cry but held it together.

She tucked my hair behind my ear, "I know baby. They'll go away, I promise," she gently kissed my lips and I instantly felt better.

I snuggled up to her as I could feel the protection. I knew that my dreams weren't real, and they wouldn't be. But it still terrifies me that it's the same dream every time, and I don't know what to do.

These nightmares will be the death of me.

"How about this one?" Elysia held up a shirt and I looked it over then shook my head. She laid it down then picked up another one, "This one?" I shook my head and she groaned.

Genevieve walked in the bedroom and smiled at me, "Is Ely showing you her clothes?" I nodded as she sat down on the bed with me. "She does that to me too," she shrugged. I chuckled as we sat there watching Elysia show us some clothes. After a moment, Genevieve spoke, "I'm surprised Carol let you come over here," she looked at me.

I smiled, "She trusts you. After I told her that you and Elysia helped with all of that stuff, she was surprised and said that you two did a great job," I watched as she smiled and nodded.

"So, everything worked?" Elysia jumped in the conversation and looked at me. I nodded and she smiled, "I knew it would,"

Genevieve chuckled, "You know everything,"

Elysia shrugged then went back to looking through her clothes. We sat there watching her for a while and I was genuinely bored. I looked over at Genevieve, "We should go out and do something,"

She looked at me, "Like what?" she asked.

I sighed, "Anything,"

Elysia looked at us, "How about we go get a bunch of movies to watch?" she suggested. "We could get some junk food and everything,"

I looked at Genevieve and she shrugged. "Sounds good to me," I nodded and Genevieve stood up as did I. "We'll go get the movies and you can stay here," she smiled as Elysia stared at her.

"Why do I have to be alone?" she asked.

Genevieve chuckled, "Not for long, Ely. We'll be back soon," she kissed her cheek and I smiled at them.

We walked out of the bedroom and to the front door. As we walked out, I looked at the time and I had about six more hours until Carol was home, so I could watch a few movies.

We got in her car and I watched as she started the engine then backed out. We played some music on the way there and I was laughing as Genevieve was screaming to every song. It was funny as hell to watch her.

We didn't have to go get the movies first, then go and buy some food. As we parked outside of the movie store, I looked around at Genevieve as she was taking the keys out of the ignition. "I have to take this sling out," she looked at me. "It's bugging the shit out of me," I chuckled as I slid it off and saw Genevieve watching me. "Don't worry, I'm fine," I got out of the car as Genevieve got out and when we walked inside and it was like movie heaven. There were movies everywhere, and every genre you could think of.

We went down the aisles and looked around at all the different movies they had. I couldn't decide which one to get because they all looked good to watch.

As we walked, I felt like someone was watching me. I turned around but didn't see anyone looking at me. I ignored the thought and walked behind Genevieve as she was looking around.

She picked one up and showed me, "How about this?" it was a horror movie but I shook my head. "Scared?" she chuckled.

I rolled my eyes, "I just don't want to watch them right now," I felt air on the back of my neck and I turned my head to look behind me but didn't see anything.

I watched as Genevieve placed the movie back and I walked behind her as she was still looking. I couldn't shake the feeling that someone was watching me but every time I looked around, nobody was looking. It was like my paranoia was taking over my head and it was making me go crazy.

Genevieve stopped to look at a movie and I looked around the store. When I looked around at everyone who was minding their business and looking at the movies. I didn't see anyone looking in my direction, but I still had a funny feeling in my gut.

I heard Genevieve say something and I turned to her as she was holding a movie out. I looked at it and thought it was a pretty good movie so I nodded and she stuck it under her arm and we started walking further down the aisle.

We picked out some good movies and I was honestly just ready to get the hell out of there. It gave me the creeps to have the feeling of someone watching me.

We walked to her car and she placed the movies in her seat and got in. I got in and she started the engine then we left the parking lot. I started feeling a little better as we were leaving.

As we pulled up at the store, I instantly didn't want to leave the car now. Genevieve looked at me as she was turning the car off. "You ok?" she asked.

I nodded and slowly opened the door as she got out. I stood there as I shut the door and I didn't know whether or not I wanted to walk inside or not. I knew my fear would get the best of me.

Genevieve had stopped at the matter store that I encountered Harge at, and if my paranoia wasn't bad at the movie store, then it sure as hell is worse now.

We walked inside and I didn't like the feeling in my stomach. I followed her down some aisles as she was looking, and I was looking around the store because my paranoia was coming back.

I still didn't see anyone as Genevieve was handing us some stuff and we were making our way to the counter to pay for everything. I didn't know if I should ignore this feeling or what, I mean, nobody was in here and nobody was looking at me.

Genevieve grabbed a bag and handed me one and we walked outside. She looked at me and smiled, "We're going to get fat," I chuckled as I nodded.

I followed Genevieve out to the car. I looked over at this car that was parked on the other side of the store and I couldn't figure out where I'd seen that car before. I stopped and looked at it then I heard Genevieve, "Hey," I looked over at her as she was staring at me. "What's wrong?" she asked as she was walking towards me.

I shook my head and looked back at the car. I instantly recognized the car and my heart started pounding. I looked around but didn't see him anywhere. I looked back at Genevieve as she was staring at me, "Go back to the car," I watched as she stared at me in confusion.

Before she said anything, I heard a car door shut and when I turned to look, Harge was getting out of the car with another guy. He was looking right at me and I knew that my paranoia wasn't messing with me.

Was he following me?

I looked back at Genevieve as she was staring at me and I knew that she needed to stay away from what I'm about to do. There's no way that I'm dragging her down with me if I go down.

As I turned back to Harge, he was leaning on his car staring at me. I knew he was waiting and I wasn't about to let him wait anymore. I knew that this was stupid, but I needed this to end.

It had to end.

I looked at Genevieve, "Go back to the car. Ok?"

She stared at me, "Why?" she glanced over at Harge then back at me. "Who is that?" she questioned.

I sighed, "Don't worry about that. I have to go talk to him and I need you to stay in the car," I watched as she gave me a confused look. "Please," I begged.

She looked at me for a moment until she gave it to me and walked back to the car. I watched as she got inside and that's when I turned to Harge and started walking towards him.

I am stupid. There's no way that what I'm doing is a smart choice because he nearly killed me last time, so what's the difference this time?

I held my breath as I was approaching him and he was steadily watching me as I was getting closer. I stopped in front of him and he kept staring at me. I watched as his eyes never left mine and my heart was racing.

His face was bruised and he had a cut on his lip. I smiled at the marks I made and I felt better now that I know I gave him a beating that he deserved.

"What do you want?" he asked. His arms were crossed and he looked like he didn't even care that I was here.

I looked over at the other guy and he was watching us. I didn't know who he was but he seemed to have an interest in me by the way he was watching me.

I looked back at Harge. "I came to talk," I watched his eyes.

He was silent for a moment. "There's nothing to talk about," he explained.

"I do believe there is," I stared at him for a moment. "I want to know what you told the police," I watched him as he stared at me. "When they came to talk to you,"

He stared at me for a while. "I didn't say anything to them,"

I watched him as I knew he was lying. "Stop lying, Harge. I want to know what you told them,"

He leaned off the car and stood in front of me. "I didn't tell them anything, Therese. What the hell would I tell them?"

"I don't know. I came and beat the shit out of you? Broke into your house? Whatever you would say because you're fucked up in the head?" I explained.

He shook his head and backed away, "No. I didn't tell them that,"

I stared at him. "Then what did you tell them?" I asked.

He leaned back in the car and looked at me. "What I told them is none of your business. Now leave me alone,"

I stared at him, not believing what I just heard. Is Harge telling me to leave him alone? What the hell has he been doing for the past few weeks?

I stared at him. "What's your problem?" he looked at me and I could see something in his eyes and he seriously didn't look like himself. He looked worse and he wasn't making eye contact with me or anything.

He wasn't acting like Harge.

I looked over at the other guy and he was watching me. I looked back at Harge and he wasn't looking at anything. He had his head down and I was wondering what was going on.

Since when did I care about Harge?

I was getting nowhere since Harge wasn't acting like himself and I knew that it was useless to keep on pushing him when he wasn't talking. I didn't know what was going on, but I couldn't trust him. This might just be one of his tricks.

The other guy spoke, "Maybe you should leave," he stared at me as I was staring at him.

I didn't know what was going on, but the smartest thing for anyone to do is to just walk away. But I couldn't. I wanted to know what was going on and why he was acting like this.

I stared at Harge for a moment until I decided that I should just leave. I walked to the car and got in as Genevieve was staring at me. I looked over at her, "Let's go," she nodded and started the car.

As we were pulling out, I watched Harge as we were leaving the parking lot. Something was weird about him and I couldn't figure out what it was. I knew that something was wrong, but I didn't want to push any further.

We pulled up at Genevieve's house and I grabbed as bag as I was getting out. I followed Genevieve inside and we sat everything down on the kitchen table.

I heard Elysia run into the kitchen, "Food!" she yelled as she ran to the table and looked through the bags.

Genevieve laughed as she was watching her and I couldn't help but smile. I really did love these two, and I was so glad that I met them. They can turn any situation into a better one.

We all grabbed some food and went into the living room to watch a movie. Genevieve grabbed one without us seeing it and stuck it in the DVD player. She ran back to the couch and jumped on it while making Elysia scream.

I laughed as I watched them. The movie started coming on and I instantly knew what movie this was. I looked over at Genevieve as she was pressing her finger to her lips and I chuckled as I shook my head.

It was a scary movie and judging by the way Genevieve is acting, I'm guessing Elysia doesn't like scary movies.

This should be fun.

*

Popcorn was all over the floor and on us. Screaming was probably heard all over the neighbourhood, I'm surprised that the cops weren't called on us.

Genevieve was laughing so hard that she started crying at one point. It was funny because she had to leave the living room from all the crying she was doing.

The movie was over and I think Elysia was the only one who was happy about it. She mainly did all the screaming while Genevieve was laughing her ass off from watching her scream.

"I hate you," Elysia said once Genevieve walked back in the room. She crossed her arms and Genevieve chuckled as she sat down next to her.

"It's worth it since I watched you scream and get scared," Genevieve chuckled as Elysia rolled her eyes.

I looked at the time and noticed that Carol was about to be home. I looked at Genevieve, "I have to go," she nodded and stood up.

I said goodbye to Elysia and told her that I didn't know Genevieve bought a scary movie. She forgave me but not Genevieve and I couldn't help but laugh.

As we left the house, I thanked Genevieve for an awesome day. She smiled while driving, "No problem. We should do it more often," I nodded in agreement.

We pulled up at the house and Carol was already home. I told Genevieve goodbye as I was getting out and walking to the front door. I walked in and found Carol in the kitchen sitting at the table.

I smiled at her but my smile faded when she had her head in her hands. I walked to her, "Carol?" she looked up and I noticed tears in her eyes. "What's wrong?" I sat down beside her.

She sniffed back some tears, "I got a call today," she stared at me as I stared back at her.

"From who?" I asked. My heart was starting to race as I waited.

She stared at me for a moment. "Harge committed suicide."
