chapter 31: Baby!

Sky's POV

"Eco is taking a bathe, he'll be here in 10 minutes." Uncle David says as he comes back after going to call Eco.

"It's okay, uncle. I'll wait." I smile and relax myself in the couch because knowing Eco, he's definitely going to take a lot of time to bathe and get ready.

"Sorry about that, Sky. He was a little dull since past few days and not doing things on time. He bathes, eats and does everything whenever he wants." Uncle David sighs as he sits next to me.

"Is he fine?" I call out worried.

He must be dull because of me, I know that but I hope he isn't really that bad.

"Yeah, he's fine. He's so stubborn that he won't tell me what's the problem. I hope now that you're here, he'll open up to you at least." He states and I feel bad as I'm the reason for it, "oh, Sky, don't ruin your mood and don't feel down. It'll be fine, Eco isn't really a moody person so he'll get better."

Seeing my mood changing, uncle David encourages me as he smiles at me while tapping my knee. I return the smile with a nod. We just casually talk about things when uncle David starts sharing to me about Eco and his childhood stories. Uncle says Eco was a shy baby when he was a kid but he became stubborn and developed the attitude as he grew up. Uncle narrates me some of the funny incidents which took place during their stay in US. From those stories, I understand that even though Eco was shy as a kid, he was always a naughty boy from a child. We're both enjoying the stories with laughter and having a fun time when suddenly I hear the door sound. It's mild, almost inaudible but my senses could hear. I look at the direction not so immediately but a while later to see Eco standing at the start of the steps and looking at us. And when he sees me seeing him, he turns around and runs back into the room before closing the door back. I frown and get up immediately.

"Oh God! What's with this boy?" Uncle David stresses out while holding his head, "I'll go and bring him. Such a trouble!" He mumbles as he makes a move to go.

"Uncle?" I call him which stops him and he turns back to me, "can I go?"

At my request, he looks stunned for a moment before he glances up at the door which was closed few minutes ago and then back at me.

"Of course, Sky. You can go, no need my permission. I'm just worried that he might not behave well with you." He agrees with doubts.

"It's okay, uncle. I can manage." I assure him.

It's not like Eco never misbehaved with me. More like I can count on my fingers the number of times he actually behaved well with me. Forget it, most of the times it was my fault too so I shouldn't blame him wholly as I was the one who provoked him first.

With one nod at him, I grab the heavy box I brought and slowly make my way upstairs, towards the room to which the door was slammed closed a minute ago. Taking my steps closer, I reach the room and stand still for a moment. I let out a sigh which I didn't know I was holding and gather courage to finally knock on the door. It's just a small knock, loud enough for the person the other side to hear but not loud enough to disturb other people. My palms sweat as I wait for the door to get open. I don't know why I'm so nervous when I'm just meeting none but Eco. It's not our first meet or an encounter, we literally spent 2 months together, like staying in the same house, in the same room, eating together and sleeping together. We had numerous flights and countable happy moments. So why am I so nervous now?

"Eco, open the door, please." I plead in a soft voice while knocking again as he isn't opening the door.

And this time, a while later, I hear the sound and see the door knob turning around before the door gets open. He don't open it wide, just a little and he don't even stand in front of me as he's hiding behind the door.

"Eco, come out. Let me see you." I call out.

Slowly, he slides his face and peeks through the door. His face and his hand fingers which are holding the door for support are the only things I can see. It's so cute, his actions. I couldn't help but feel so relieved to face him after so many days. It feels I'm alive again.

"What?" Eco mumbles, his voice so soft and almost inaudible.

"I'm sorry, Eco." I apologise again, "and I'm here to take you back home."

"You said that many times. I'm still angry." His pouts speaks otherwise.

It's like a child hiding behind the door and being angry at their parent for not buying them the toy they asked for.

"Then how can I stop you from being angry?" I question him, surpassing my laugh.

"I don't know." He shrugs with a high pitched voice.

"But I know." I say and take a step forward, his eyes go wide at it.

"Hey, stop!" He screams in panic.

"Why?" I ask him.

"J-just don't." His eyes now look everywhere but at me.

I chuckle, this time I couldn't stop it from voicing out. He immediately looks at me with a frown before it turns to fury.

"You're laughing?" He gives me a hard look and I gulp down.

Did I do a mistake? Is smiling so wrong? Maybe in this situation.

"Sorry." I say sorry.

I don't know why I'm saying sorry these many times. The number of sorry's I've said all throughout my life are less when compared to the ones I've told only to Eco. I might have been indebted to him in my past life.

"First you make me angry and then you apologise. It's common now." He states, now coming out from behind the door and standing in front of me with his hands folded on his chest.

"Eco, I'm really sorry for what happened. I realised my mistake and I promise never to repeat again. Please understand and come back home with me." I urge him.

At my pleading tone, the hardness on his face disappears and he let his hands loose to his side. He stays quite for a minute as he thinks and I let him.

"Okay, I understand that you reflected your mistake. I forgive you but I won't return now. I'm gonna stay here for few more days. I can't return just yet." He replies, his voice strong but his eyes says otherwise.

Is he playing hard to get?

"Why? You're already here for three days. Aren't you missing our home, my parents and me? Because we all miss you." It's frustrating a little.

"You miss me?" He queries astonished.

"Yes, we all miss you." I repeat, not realising I didn't tell him what he wants to hear.

"Well, I too miss the house, uncle Sidney, uncle Elijah, River and even his evil husband Ivan but yeah I'm not returning." He says sarcastically, he mentioned everyone except me.

"Don't you miss me?" I ask shamelessly.

He just shrugs while avoiding my eyes again.

I sigh. It's like I'm getting back to where I started. Why can't I take things further? Apologise to him. Tell him about my feelings and then take him back home. Simple! Yeah, only in plans, in actions it's damn difficult.

The weight that I'm carrying reminds me that I brought something for Eco. I curse for forgetting about it but now that I remember I decide to give it to him.

"Eco, I brought a gift for you." I tell him while lifting the box and he looks at it with a stunned expression.

His eyes go wide and he watches the box without blinking them. He bends down and faces the glass box as he watches the thing inside with happiness.

"Baby, you really brought this for me?" Being excited and happy, he called me baby forgetting that he's angry at me.

Since our flight, it's the first he called me baby again.

"Yeah, do you like it?" I query with a nod.

"I love it, thank you." He thanks as he opens the door of the box and takes the cat outside.

I brought him the cat that he asked during our honeymoon.

"Now that you gave this, you can go back." He says and stunts me with his words.

Wait, what? Go back? I thought bringing him a cat which he wanted would make him understand my feelings? Wasn't my actions enough? What more?

He turns around and starts walking. I then remember one more thing and I know for sure it'll make him understand that I like him. So, I stop him by calling him,

"Baby!"
