Sky's POV
"What do you think we should do today, mama? Should we have a date for just the two of us?" I ask my mom after we finish our breakfast along with the conversation about my marriage.
"Do you think we should do that?" He calls out with a hint of smile.
"Hell yeah! We should!" I exclaim because he almost agreed.
"We'll then." He laughs which makes me laugh as well, "what do we do then? Go out somewhere?"
"How about baking?" I suggest.
My grandparents of mom's side used to run a bakery. My mom once told me how he wanted to join his parents and work along with them. And just when he started, he got the proposal from my grand mom to marry my old man so he couldn't continue to help his parents. He also shared how he likes to bake but he don't know much. when we were young, we used to visit the bakery and I used to stay with my granny in the kitchen. I learnt a lot from her, some by just seeing and some by making. She taught me things about baking, some trips and tricks as well. And I used to practice at home whenever I used to get time along with mom. It's one of our thing.
"Sounds fun. I'm in." Mom agrees to me.
"What sounds fun, Sidney?" I hear my old man's voice and turn to see my dad walking down to us.
Seeing him, my smile starts disappearing while my mom smiles widely. He's going to steal my mom again from me.
"We're going to have a date, Eli, Sky and I." Mom tells him happily.
"What? Well, I too want to join." My old man smiles at mom as he hugs him by his waist.
What a show off!
"Didn't you hear, dada? It's just MOM and I?" I emphasis ourselves.
"Is there anything your mom does without me?" He says to me with a smirk.
He's still thinking there's rivalry going on between the two of us regarding mom. Old man didn't realise I lost to him since day 1.
"But Eli..." Mom was ready to talk to him but he cut him off in between.
"Sidney, I'm hungry. Can you serve me breakfast?" He changes the topic before mom could finish himself.
"Yes, come on. Are you that hungry? You should have told me earlier. Why did you waste time by talking?" Mom nags at him but he's smiling like an idiot.
Mom holds his hand and takes him to the dining table to give him food. Is he 60 or 6? Why does mom need to hold him like a child and bring him to the table? Can't he walk by himself? Always troubling mom. Sighing at their lovey dovey scene, I shake my head and sit on the couch in the living room as my old man eats his food while my mom sits next to him and just watch him eat. I take my eyes away from them and grab my phone from my pocket before checking the mails and asking my secretary about tomorrow's schedule.
My secretary, Rui, messages me almost immediately saying I don't have any meetings tomorrow and it's just normal working schedule. I see and just leave it. I don't need to reply anymore. Now that work related stuff is done, I open my gallery and see the photos that I have in my phone. Almost all of the photos are my mom's, of course the old man tagging along in most of the pics but some are only him and I. Some are just random. Few are just mom which I took secretly when his husband wasn't around while the remaining are with the other family members. I smile as I watch him. My mom didn't change even a bit all these years, he's still so beautiful.
"Stop smiling, you look like a creep." Old man states as he and mom walks towards me, "did you find yourself a lover? Good for you then, you can now leave my husband alone."
"Eli!" Mom gently hits him on his shoulder.
"I'm just stating facts, Sidney." He mumbles as they both sit on the other couch.
"Sky, baby, when do you want to start our date?" Mom asks me curiously.
"Whenever you want, mama. You should be comfortable, okay. Don't tire yourself." I tell him, I don't want him to get tired.
"Then you shouldn't have asked for a date in the first place." Old man comments, he's holding his phone but his overall concentration and ears are on our conversation.
"I'm fine, Sky. Worry not, shall we do now?" Mom queries me.
"Okay, mama. Come on, let's go." I smile with a nod and stand up after closing my phone and keeping it in my pocket.
I hold out my hand for him and he smiles at me while looking up. He goes to place his hand in mine when the old man grabs his hand instead and helps mom stand up. I frown instantly.
"Eli, stop being annoying. Leave us alone, baby Sky and I are going to bake now." Mom scolds him and let go of his hand.
"He's not a baby anyone, Sidney." I hear him call.
"But my kids are going to be my babies even if they're 100 years. I think I already told this before." Mom counters and turns to me as he grabs my hand instead. I break into a smile.
"Let's go." Mom leads me to our kitchen and I go with him.
My old man is following us, obviously, he won't let the chance go. I don't mind though. I'm happy that mom is spending time with me.
"Calling our son a creep when you yourself is following us like a creep." Mom calls out the old man and I chuckle out loud.
"Sidney!" He whines like a child.
"Whatever, Eli, don't disturb us. Today is my day with Sky." Mom warns him.
He silently sits on one of the chairs and watches us.
"What do you want to bake today, Sky?" Mom queries.
"What do you want to eat, mama?" I question him back. I'm actually baking for him so it'll be good if I bake what he likes.
"Hmm...let me think!" He goes into thinking.
"How about chocolate fudge cake?" Old man suggests from his place.
And when mom and I look at him, he pretends as if he's not looking at us and goes back to his phone.
"We don't need your opinion, Eli." Mom mumbles and turns to me, "so, do you want to bake chocolate fudge?"
I chuckle at his request. He could have just said okay to dad. He wants to bake what dad wants to eat.
"Okay, mama." I nod and we start taking out all the necessary ingredients from the pantry and start making the recipe.
I know this by heart. My old man loves this cake and mom always request this since his husband loves it so much. I grab a bowl and beat the eggs while mom arranges the cake mould. Once done with eggs, I mix flour, coco powder and other ingredients before mixing the batter well. I then place it in the mould which mom has already prepared and place it in the oven. I set the time and leave it to bake. By the time it gets done, I work on the icing. My mom loves the chocolate decoration so I always pay extra attention to it.
When the ovens stops, I take out the cake and unmould it before placing the cake on the stand. I cut it in two and start spreading chocolate cream in between both the layers. I also cover the whole cake with chocolate cream and start decorating it.
"Mama, do you want me to write something on this?" I ask my mom.
"Hmm... How about mama loves Sky?" He says with a chuckle.
"No! I won't accept. Write I love Sidney instead." My old man interrupts in between.
I gaze at him and give him a look. He has been peeking at us since the beginning.
"Stop it, Eli. You didn't do anything. It's all Sky's hard work. Let him be happy." Mom tells him.
"I didn't do anything because you guys didn't allow me." He counters while standing up, "give it here, I'll write instead."
He takes long strides towards us and forcefully grabs the piping bag from me. I take a step back and watch him while folding my hands on my chest. Let's see how he's going to do! He doesn't even know A when it comes to baking. He's handing are shaking just by holding the bag and I swear it's because of his age.
"Eli, are you going to ruin the cake? Step away!" Mom scolds him worriedly.
"I'm not." He replies and tries.
The cream cuts off in between as he writes and thus it leaves dots, lines and unequal amount of cream on the cake. I can't help but chuckle.
"Oh! I can't do this!" He gives up finally and throws the bag a side.
"You ruined everything, Eli." Mom whines.
"It's okay, mama, it's just the decoration. Let's set in freezer and eat later." I assure him.
I know he'll be happy to eat something prepared by his husband, even if it doesn't look presentable. That's how much he loves the old man.
