Author note/Folklore/Disclaimer

Dear readers and friends,

"Ah! My first reimagined novel! I can't believe it, more than anything I've always wanted to do this but haven't had the time but with covid and unlimited free time on my hands beside my major classes online. I decided to work on this along with the first series here, "Obsidian" which with the first book completed. I wanted to push away those characters by making something completely new. As a active young adult reader and lover of fantasy and science fiction, the whole act of reincarnation really interested me along with the strongly emerging genre of "Urban fantasy".

This book has no reflection to the real people who are mentioned in the novel but yet only used so that the story can draw in a easier perspective of the real world around us. "Mr. Postman's teen spirit" simply poses the question of "What is the fine line between our world and the magic we create in our heads?" Still, this is not to defame anyone or any group of people and should stay that way.

As a creator, I respect the boundaries of real world and fiction meaning that the personal lives of anyone will not be added here nor any conspiracies etc. This is more of a historical fan fiction speaking that none of the real people mentioned are living (Which even by Culture.com that rules the exception of fics that have people featured that have been alive in the last ten to fifteen years, I would feel horrible by bringing any defame to any of these amazing people or their legacy.).

~Lots of love from your friend and fellow dreamer and goof.

The meaning behind the cover and title: The dog used on the cover is from the 1993 Bad Religion Album "Recipe for Hate" which pictures two dangerous appearing dogs in suit which represents the government and people in power. It was always a very eye catching cover to me as a teen and going through a emo fase gave me the urge to pick up the controversial album at the thrift store I just happened to be shopping at one day. Trust me, I do not regret pulling those two dollars from my pocket for the punk rock album.

Bad religion easily became one of my favorite bands because of their fearlessness towards speaking their minds towards anything that is sure to give them backlash for the sake their fellow oppressed humans. As for the novel, the dog easily represents and reflects back on the title. Postmen have been associated with dog even down to this early 2000's movie scene printed in my mind like my own name-

(See Spot Run 2001)

As the Postman mentioned in the song "Please Mr. Postman by The Marvelettes" which one of the main characters is the reincarnation of one of the original members is begging for a letter from her distant lover, Anne, the character is begging for freedom from the higher government of her kind. With the dog(Royalleaves who feel like fireleaves and the reborns are a lower kind) keeping the postman (Independence) from reaching them, she's put in a position that forces her to either become sheep-like or fight for rights.

(Anne Nightshade is the reincarnation of Georgeanna Tillman) I know many of you are asking who she is. She was a founding member of the 60's girl band, The Marvelettes which became the first Motown band to earn a spot on the Pop Billboards, especially for a African American female band in that time. I always found the band to be admirable.

The teen spirit part of the title falls back to Ash, the living replica of his past life when he was Kurt Cobain from Nirvana. This character of Ash is portrayed as a more free-spirited character than his close friend, Anna who grew up together after both met with the strange coincidence of losing their parents to what they call "Nytom", the punishment for learning too much about the past and causing a vengeful viewpoint towards everyone who wronged them in the past life.

Teen spirit represents his open-mindedness and will to keep his opinions to himself to avoid conflict while at the same time using snarky comebacks and pure proof in his thoughts and words to close the mouth of those who dismiss his belief.

The tale behind the new cover:

Font: The modern font gives away the knowledge that this story takes place in nor either of the lifetimes of the original people they are based off but rather a more futuristic style. Most of the details on the cover has significance. It can also stand for the subgenre(Adventure/Fantasy).

What does "Even dogs can be idols" mean?: In the first chapter, Anne proves to be quite critical of religion from the start, doubting the existence of the Christian faith in heaven. A theme that reoccurs in the story repeatedly is the character's constant letdowns in their beliefs. We see Anne doubting it, Jay seeing the flaws in the structures and Ash blames the death of his parents on a higher power. Other background characters need something to blame their problems on so they in a way, choose a god or deity to blame for their misfortunes.

Dogs in a lot of religions are associated with filthy things so saying even dogs can be idols is a insult. Jay says this as a final curse to her deities for not being the saviors that they were painted to be when she was a child.

Dogs: Dobermans. The dogs are actually just characters from the novel and spirit creatures that were reborn from allies killed in the tunnels years ago and adopted by a trapped ghost. Since animals aren't inherently evil, they can learn it but also lose it. That's why humans and fireleaves reborn as animals can't be afterghost.

Birds: (Spoiler)

Royalleaves:
The Royalleaves are groups of people who are said to have a closer connection to nature and it's elements. These people think of themselves as savors even though they are guilty in bloodshed even though they don't admit it any excuse their actions on "Doing the good of their kind" even though it's a complete lie.

Fireleaves:
Humans and hybrids who know of the existence of Royalleaves and crave to have them destroyed out of anger and grief from the death of their innocence relatives at the hands of royalleaves . They also call themselves the "Silent crowd" like the way that they attack. They disappeared for 865 years after the first battle, only appearing to show their strength and want to revenge. Fireleaves are also known for their love for science and academics that gives them an advantage. These people are also the born reincarnations of humans.

Thornleaves: The term used for humans. Some of them had become allies for Royalleaves in the past.

The three deities:
In Royalleaf folklore, there are three deities who give powers to guardians and royals in high positions. Sun, moon, and shadow. Sun guards over those who bring forth freedom of speech, fighters of honor, and the open-minded. She gains power from the sun. Moon is the one who prefers peace and the gentle-hearted ones, filling the weary hearted with courage. She only walks upon the stars at night. Shadow walks with those who cower in the shadows and lays with the underdogs and those who pass on. He even lends help to those who aren't Royalleaves.

Moonstone: A oddly shaped transparent stone in the mountains of Blackdown held by a keeper. The stone holds all the power to the Royalleaves power. It's impossible to know where it is hidden in the death mountains because everyone who attempted to retrieve it either went missing or came back in a state of insanity.

Newfars: The continuous holiday that comes every year during the human Christmas celebration where royalleaves celebrate the ending of year without war to commemorate all those who died in the first battle and their victory over the fireleaves.

Afterghost: A fireleaf who was killed with no one to give respects turning them into a soulless creature.
