Not much else happened that night, to our displeasure. Soon after sharing a few more kisses against the wall of the dressing room, I realized Victor shouldn't be backstage and we would get in trouble if we got caught. Once we had made it out to the main area, I had been ready to go back and do my job, when I was stopped by Victor. He had asked me with big, sad eyes not to go and spend the rest of the night with him.
"I need to work though..." I had pointed out, torn between what I wanted to do and what I was supposed to do.
It was difficult to see, and if it wasn't for the flash of bright light shining from the stage, I would have missed the deep blush on Victor'sface as he whispered he would pay me. I wanted to decline the offer instantly, but Victor being himself, he was able to explain his reasons and once again, convinced me. In a way, that was awkward, but as we spent the rest of the night together, he had completely forgotten about it and just had fun.
I wanted to kiss him more, but we weren't allowed to get too close, let alone lock lips. In the end, we were doomed to touching each other's hand or chest every once in a while, teasing and tempting one another. It was good enough for me.
There had also been Jumin who we found busy with Zen. I was surprised to feel so happy to see them talking to each other, for the first time realizing how fitting they would be as a couple. Or well...aside from their jobs.
Thankfully, Jumin didn't seem to mind in the least about Zen's profession. If anything, he seemed accepting of it.
I had wondered what Victor thought of me. Does he think lowly of me for what I do? The idea was absurd. It didn't seem like something Victor would ever think.
Once the night had ended, Victor offered to give me a ride home. I would have declined and gone with Zen as usual but instead I was left facing the back of Zen's head as he left the club with Jumin in arm.
I had only shook my head in irony.
That night I found out Victor was surprisingly a very good driver; rarely ever went over the speed limit and we made it back to the dorms in twenty minutes.
After saying goodnight, I exited his exotic car and walked a bit to the dorms, since we had decided it was best he didn't get too close and risk getting recognized by a late-walking student.
Two weeks had passed since that night at the Legions Club.
That weekend was like hell for me. I hadn't heard of Victor at all until Sunday afternoon. It was a text from him, explaining how he had finally gotten his phone back and how he didn't mean to disappear on me the previous day. I was just glad he didn't regret Friday night and French class wouldn't be as awkward as I was beginning to imagine.
And it truly wasn't. The following Monday was the first time I saw Victor since Friday evening and the first time I ever saw him look so...well, not so serious. Although he didn't go out of his way to talk to me, he didn't fail to flash me a smile when he saw me walk in. We had talked a lot the previous night, and everything seemed well. There were some glances during the lesson but it was obvious he was trying his best to keep focused on his job. I chuckled, remembering he distracted me from doing my job.
The day after that and the days following were all the same -- for two weeks. Every day Victor and I would text in the afternoons and see each other during class. At first I thought it was fun, hot even, that we had this thing going on between the two of us while the rest of the world was oblivious to it. But with every day that went by without anything other than the same routine going by, I started to once again have my doubts.
And alas, here we are.
I was walking towards the dorms well after my last class of the day, gym--which wasn't as bad as I had expected.
I was walking across the campus, wondering where this was going (figuratively speaking). Like, What relationship do I really have with Victor? What relationship does Victor even want?
It was far too early for me to be asking these questions, but the anxiety and constant wonder was eating me alive. I needed to know what was going on between us.
The constant glances we gave each other during his lessons and texting were not enough in the end. I wanted to touch him again. To feel his lips against mine. To see that breathtaking smile. I wanted more.
The walk to the dorms was filled with constant thinking, the journey went by in a blur. By the time I was sliding the key into the dorm door to unlock it, I had made up a few scenarios in my head that revolved around Victor and myself. Not a sexy one, but some in which I confront him about my worries. But no matter how I put it, each scenario seemed stupid in the end. Victor would most surely make fun of me if he knew what I was thinking.
With a heavy sigh escaping my lips, I opened the front door and stepped inside, kicking my shoes off by the entrance. As I turned to head to my bedroom, I accidentally yelped when I spotted someone sitting in our couch.
"Holy mother of God, you scared me." I breathed out, trying to calm myself. Kyoya raised his eyebrows, giving me an apologising gaze.
"I didn't mean to scare you. I'm sorry for barging in here, Phichit asked me to wait here while his last lesson finished." Kyoya explained in a deep voice. I nodded, smiling.
"No problem. Feel free to watch TV and get whatever if you'd like if you're hungry." I motioned to the kitchen. Kyoya gave me a grateful nod. "I'll be in my room then. Let me know if you need anything."
"Will do."
There was a bit of an awkward silence after that, so I took that as my cue and walked across the living room, going straight to my bedroom and closing the door behind me. As soon as the bed and I made eye contact, I flopped onto the mattress with a heavenly sigh.
The sheets were fresh against my warm skin and the mattress felt amazing; it was very tempting to just fall asleep after going through another long week of classes.
But seeing as the world doesn't want me to rest, my phone vibrated from my pocket, interrupting the serene moment.
With a bit of a pout, I reached for my back pocket and pulled out my cellphone, reading the new message displayed across the screen.
Victor:
are you free today?
Wondering what he might be up to, I unlocked the phone and typed a quick response, staring at the screen with an unconscious smile as I waited for another text.
Yuri:
yes, i am :) why?
Victor ^♡^:
i still have to take you to
that date, remember?(⌒♡⌒)
Yuri:
you really meant it?
Victor ^♡^:
Of course! Now, is 7 okay?
Hello?
Yuri, you still there? (・・ ) ?
Yuri:
ah sorry~ and yes 7 is fine
Victor ^♡^:
Okay, pick you up at 7
then! (⌒♡⌒)~
After staring at my phone in awe for about a minute more, I finally snapped out of it and rushed up from my bed to get ready for this apparent date. He didn't mention where we would be heading and it seemed pointless for me to ask, seeing as he probably wouldn't tell me, so you could say I had a terrible time trying to pick out something to wear.
After fifteen minutes of going through my whole closet and discarding fabric after fabric, I finally decided on one of my favorite outfits. A light blue button up shirt with some pretty-tight black jeans. Phichit has mentioned on various occasions that plain colors fit me well and that this shirt 'enhances' my features. I just kept repeating Phichit's words in my head, trying to keep my doubts from getting out of control.
As soon as I had my shoes on and hair fixed, I headed our of the bedroom, ironically running into Phichit in the hallway.
"Oh, I was just going to knock! Kyoya and I are going--... Wait, where are you going?" Phichit changed the subject like a switch, eyeing me up and down with a raised eyebrow.
My eyes widened. "Um...out?" I tried.
Phichit smiled, the type of smile a mother gives to his kid when they know something they shouldn't. The thought terrified me to no end.
Does he know about me and Victor?
"Oh, well, have fun then. We'll talk about this later." He gave me a pointed look, patted my shoulder and turned on his heel, leaving out of my sight with a skip on his step. I breathed again.
Phichit sure can be a handful; I'm impressed Kyoya can deal with him with only a few weeks of knowing each other.
Speaking of, are they a thing yet?
I have to remember to ask Phichit later.
I waited until Kyoya and Phichit left, even waited five minutes after that just to make sure, before I left the dorm, locking the door after myself.
I sent Victor a quick text as I walked to the stairs, leaving the dorms.
The little tingles that I had been trying my best to ignore the past hour and a half were progressively getting more and more difficult to put aside. Every step I took away from the dorms made my hands shake and my nerves rise.
I had no idea where Victor was taking me for this date. I don't know how this night will go or how it will end. Maybe I should have taken another shower before leaving even though I just took one after my morning run, before going to classes. Maybe I should've chosen something more presentable. Or maybe this isn't even a good idea to begin with.
With so many thoughts crossing my mind at lighting speed, I was too busy trying to ignore them that I didn't realize how far I had actually walked away from the dorms. What was an average ten minute walk went by in a flash. I was now near the campus main gates, where Victor and I had decided to meet since we both agreed it wasn't a very good idea to risk being seen together inside school where anyone could recognize us.
I rested against the school's gates, my head low and hidden from the few cars that were driving by. A minute or so later, I heard a car stop in front of me. Once I looked up, my eyes instantly connected with Victor's. He waved at me, the passenger's window rolled down.
"Hi." I greeted as I hoped in, taking note of how clean the car was now that I saw it in the daylight. It sort of smelled like Victor, too. How did I not notice this before?
"Hi." Victor greeted back, beaming brightly. As soon as he made sure I buckled in, he drove off, the radio playing softly in the background to keep the moment from getting too awkward. "Sorry I haven't been too interactive lately, aside from texting. I've just been busy with grading papers and some home stuff." He softly explained without warning.
I nodded, slightly surprised at the information I wasn't expecting to get. "Don't worry, I understand." Victor quickly glanced at me and smiled, making my insecurities melt away. It's ridiculous how Victor has the power to change my mood and make any worry disappear with a simple look. What is he doing to me?
We fell into silence again and I looked out the window, watching the buildings pass by as usual. Then I remembered something very important.
"By the way, where are you taking me?"
Victor smiled to himself, keeping his eyes on the road. I noticed we were leaving town, the buildings gradually coming to an end as nature instead replaced our surroundings."I thought I could take you somewhere fun. It's actually one of my favorite places I found back when I was studying here before moving to Russia. So it's pretty special."
Even though he didn't tell me where we were going, which I had already expected he wouldn't since the beginning, I now knew this place was special to him for some reason. I smiled.
+++++
After about a thirty minute drive, Victor at last parked his car outside a building in the town over from home. Victor opened the door and rushed over to my side, surprising me by opening my own door. I gave him a one-sided smile, which he returned with a cheeky grin.
I looked up as Victor closed the car door. I read over the logo on the building and I smiled. My smile only widened as we walked inside, the colorful place holding up to it's name. I turned to look at Victor with a raised eyebrow.
"So younger Victor was a tag nerd?" I snickered. Victor looked down at me with a shrug, trying to hide his smile.
"More like a fun type of nerd." He corrected. "Its alright if you don't feel like playing, we can go somewhere else instead if you're not up for it."
"No, this is fine." I assured him, smiling. "I just don't know if you're up to getting your butt kicked."
Victor nudged my side with his hip playfully as we started walking to the front desk. "Keep dreaming."
Victor had brought us to a lazer tag arena for our firs date. I had only come to a place like this once before and it was a few years back with Phichit and a few other of our friends. I was pretty good at it towards the end, but I have now lost all tactic. So was I confident this was going to end well for me? Well...no. Definitely not. This will most likely end up a disaster, but I will make sure I have a blast at least.
After paying and getting all of our gear, we were told we had the option to play with this other group of people or we could wait until an area got unoccupied and we could play by ourselves. We decided it was okay to play with other people; this meant we would be playing together along with another couple.
Once we went through the process of putting on our gear and getting our weapons, we were escorted to the area where we would be playing. Outside the arena was a fairly large group of people siting outside, waiting for the game to start. The teams would be divided into four groups of four, the teams differentiated by the color of our guns; we were team blue. A quick scan of the group later, we spotted the other two members of our team.
They approached us as well and Victor greeted them, right away getting into introductions.
"I'm Lance, this is Keith. Nice to meet ya." The lanky guy smiled.
(A/N: and the dirty laundry fandom cries in the distance as I laugh manically, holding on to a half-empty box of tissues on my side--i had to do ittttt)
"Victor and Yuri. Nice to meet you, too." Victor introduced us, happily shaking the guys hands.
Our introductions were cut short by the lady who had guided us here. She quickly went through the rules with everyone, looking around at the teams as she explained the boundaries. The whole group of people simply nodded along to her words.
"Alright, get to your bases then. The game will begin in three minutes. You have half an hour, have fun!" The girl cheered and opened the door for us, cuing everyone to run inside and rush to their designated areas.
Clearly being the least experienced one from the team, I followed the others until we reached what was apparently our base. The four of us crouched down next to a big foam boulder, keeping out of sight from our rivals.
"Okay, have you guys played before?" Lance asked. I shook my head.
"Not together." Victor clarified.
(A/n: not yet-- if you know what I mean *wink wink* nudge nudge* haha I'll leave *drops mic*)
Lance looked at Keith for a second before looking at me with a raised eyebrow. I must've looked nervous because he seemed to know right then and there that I wasn't very good at this.
"Okay, so Victor and I will keep the base and the area nearby protected while Keith and Yuri try to attack the other bases." Lance decided. The lights in the room shut down, leaving us in darkness for a second before the blue lights turned on, the neon colors decorating the props and walls, glowing up. My glasses weren't of much help at this point for my poor vision.
My heart leaped up to my throat, his words correctly registering in my brain. "Wait, I don't think that's a good idea--"
"Don't worry, we'll stay together and I'll guide you through it. You seem like you've got plenty of stamina, so you'll be fine." Keith explained.
"I guess..." I trailed off, unsure. My eyes met with Victor's and he sent me a supporting smile.
"Remember you must capture the opposing team's base and stay alive. The game will start in five..." A voice from the intercoms announced, echoing across the fairly large arena.
"This is going to be fun." Lance promised taking notice of my nervous state. I nodded.
"Four..."
"Be careful out there." Victor added, his hand softly resting on the small of my back. My cheeks heated up and for once, I was thankful the room was so freaking dark.
"Three..."
"Don't get caught like last time." Lance warned, making Keith shake his head and stand up from his crouching position, laser ready.
"Two..."
"Ready?" Keith asked me as I stood up as well, fidgeting with my blaster. I hesitantly nodded.
"One...Begin."
Some techno type of music played in the background and the game began. My eyes widened when I heard a battle cry from somewhere in the arena. Keith didn't waste a second and I quickly followed him, holding the blaster up, ready to shoot.
It was difficult to move around, seeing as I couldn't...well, see. No pun intended.
It seemed like Keith knew the arena by heart and had a good idea as to where we were. Rushing through an open area, we slid behind a small wall, looking around the corner as we waited for a victim. Keith held up a fist before closing his eyes, concentrating.
Was he listening for something? With this loud music playing?
He snapped his eyes opened and raised three fingers, counting down. Then I heard it, another group of players were coming our way. It sounded like two people from the talking. Keith jumped out from our hide out and shot at them, barely hitting the sensor placed on their chests. He managed to hit one person, but the other one, a girl, was fast enough to move away and evade the shot.
"Ha! Told ya, you couldn't get me!" The girl cheered, holding her blazer and shooting at Keith. He managed to crouch down and out of sight, taking cover, a smile on his lips.
"Same old Rachel." He chuckled.
Realizing she didn't know about my presence, I quickly scurried away to the opposite side of the wall. Confused, Keith looked at me and opened his lips to ask where I was going but was interrupted by this Rachel girl.
Just as she jumped behind the wall, I swiftly jumped out of sight, holding the blazer in an awkward position. The thing felt like a distant memory in my hands, but I tried my best to remember and went ahead, going around the wall.
"Come on, just take me to the base like last time!" Rachel laughed. I peeked over the edge of he wall and saw them both pointing their blazers at each other, fingers ready on the trigger.
Keith snickered, "Sorry, but not this time, Rachel." He briefly met my eyes and I took that as my cue to attack. With my best aiming, I shot her back sensor, ending her game life.
Rachel's eyes widened and she turned to look at me, shocked. I gave her an apologising smile, and just when I thought she was going to fight me, she smiled.
"Back stabbing? Ouch... but I gotta hand it to you, kid. That was nice." My face heated up.
Keith stood next to her and nudged her side, "Told you I'd win this time."
Rachel laughed mockingly, "Ha ha, you should learn some moves from him instead." She playfully punched his arm and started to walk away, "I'll wait for you outside with Daniel!"
Keith and I watched her go and once she was out of our sight, Keith didn't waste a second before complementing me, in his own way I suppose. "I didn't think you'd be that good."
I shrugged. "I'm not used to this anymore, but thanks." He smiled and motioned for me to follow him, reminding me we weren't done just yet.
We went ahead in search of other players and hoping we would run into someone's home base so we could claim it.
After about two minutes if maneuvering our way around the arena, we came across a base. No one seemed to be guarding it, which was a clear red flag, so we stood back and thought up a strategy.
"I'll go ahead and go around, then we can both move in from both sides and flag it as ours, yeah?" I nodded and Keith went ahead, doing as he had just said he would. I tried my best not to loose sight of him, which was a pretty difficult task thanks to the lack of light and not-so clean glasses.
I should probably clean them before something happens.
I set down my blazer against the wall and took off my glasses, using a small corner of my shirt to wipe off the fog from the glasses. I looked up in hopes I could see without them, but all I saw were blobs of neon colors, which were most likely not Keith.
"I found one!"
I jumped in my place, my glasses slipping from my grip in the process, as I quickly snapped my head in the direction of the voice. I narrowed my eyes, trying to focus my vision. I saw a person standing in front of me, their blazer pointed at me.
My first instinct was to reach for my own blazer in hopes I could somehow shoot my way out of this, but I stopped in my tracks, when they raised their voice.
"Don't move or I'll shoot!"
I raised my hands up in surrender, a bit disappointed the game finished so quickly. I turned to face them, which didn't make any difference to me since I still couldn't see them as anything other than a blob of color.
"Yes! I told you we would catch someone!" A new voice cheered.
"I'm sorry, could I at least get my glasses? I can't see too well without them." I interrupted, awkwardly pointing down at my feet where my glasses were probably resting.
"Oh crap, Pidge, I know him! You're the shirtless guy from college!" The first voice pointed out. My eyebrows furrowed, a wave of fear and confusion running through me. I wasn't expecting anyone from college to be in this town on a Friday evening.
"Um...I am?" I asked out loud.
"Ah, I'm the person who had asked you for the science building was." They hesitantly explained, clearly embarrassed. I thought about it for a bit, the scenario triggering a memory.
"Y/N?" I asked out loud, hoping I got their name correct.
[a/n: reminder Y/N means Your Name! i didn't plan to do this, it just kinda happened, but just go a long with it! and dont hate yourself, you won't get in the way of victuri!! so just enjoy it!!]
"Yeah, uh, hi. Sorry for scaring you, let me help." They moved over and leaned down, fetching my glasses and handing them to me. I gave them a quick wipe and slid them on, flashing the two people in front of me a friendly smile.
"Thanks."
"No problem." Y/N smiled sweetly. In the blink of an eye, their smile turned into a mischievous one as they raised their blazer up again, "Hope you know it's not personal."
"Just the game, pal." The girl in the back shrugged.
"Ah, shit." I whispered.
I was ready to give up and do my walk of shame out of the arena. All they had to do was pull the trigger and hit my sensor, which wasn't difficult at all since Y/N was literally three feet away from me. But instead, the least expected thing happened.
I heard the sound of the blasters go off, expect it didn't hit my sensors, yet the ringing sound that went off once you hit a sensor did go off. When I opened my eyes and looked up, I saw it was their sensors that had been hit.
The three of us stood still in shock, confused as to what had happened. In sync, we all looked behind them, our eyes landing on Lance and Victor as they lowered their guns, smiles wide.
"Nailed it." Lance cheered, high-fiving Victor. I let out a breath of relief.
"You okay?" Victor asked, going past the defeated duo and coming to my side. I smiled.
"Yeah, I'm alright, thanks to you guys. A second too late and I would've died." I exaggerated a bit, holding my hand up to my heart dramatically. Victor took my hand from my chest and brought it up to his lips, pressing a tender kiss to my knuckles, his eyes sparkling with amusement.
"Good thing I made it then."
I looked away sheepishly and my eyes connected with Y/N as they gave me a cheeky glance as they looked between Victor and I. They smiled and began to pull their friend away, waving at me.
"It was fun seeing you again, Yuri!" They stopped in their tracks and turned to look back at us one last time. "You look well."
I blushed, "Bye, Y/N."
Once they were gone, Victor took my blazer from the place I had left it leaning against the wall and handed it to me.
"Ready to win this?" Victor asked, winking at me. My face heated even further. I gave a nervous nod and Victor chuckled, leaning in to my side before we went ahead and went to look for Keith. "By the way, you look great with a gun in between your hands."
Jesus, how am I going to get through the rest of this game when Victor already killed me multiple times?
