03. the boyfriend
"He's basically my boyfriend."
I heard the simple statement in a timid voice before a chorus of laughter coming from inside the canteen.
It's a new day, lunch time to be precise aka. the best time. I mean I could go through and talk you through periods one, two and three but I'm sure you don't want to hear about sin, cos, tan and how I fell asleep by the second period.
So, lunch. Day two.
I was happily pissing in the toilet as one does when I was called for saying that there was a situation in the canteen.
Which brings us back to where we started... me walking into the canteen hearing June Freebody say I was "basically her boyfriend".
Flattered. I really am. But saying June Freebody wasn't my type was an understatement.
I watched Charlee as she looked around in distress before running up to her sister whispering words into her ear. Apparently not words June wanted to hear because tears started to fall down her face as she sniffed uncomfortably. I watched Paisley run out of Ashby's arm to comfort a guilt stricken Charlee.
I looked at Ashby and he gave me a sad smile and shrug. His head then gestures towards Harri, who I realised was in the middle of all this. Anger burned through me when I saw Harri was still laughing in June's face.
"Well what's going on in here?!" I shouted getting everyone's attention.
"Frankie!" June gasped, staring at me intensely.
"Hey, Frankie! Stupid little June Freebody seems to think that the two of you are going out!" Harri greeted me with an sly grin on his face, expecting me to deny it all and further embarrass June in front of the whole school.
I looked to the side and saw Charlee giving a depressed look towards June. She was sad. I know, no need to congratulate me on stating the obvious but she was sad, maybe even sadder than usual.
"I'll have you all fucking know that we are going out and if I hear any of you talk shit about June Freebody again, well let me tell you, I'll fuck you up and it won't be pretty." I announced before taking June's hand and quickly dragging her off to the disabled toilets on the second floor of the school.
"Frankie. I'm so s- s- sorry about." June said taking herself away from my grip and stuttering as more tears fell down her cheeks. "I think I've always known that you don't really like me, like I like you but I've still tried. I'm such an idiot."
I rubbed her back softly, unsure of what to say.
"You're not being stupid June, you're just pursuing what you want and ignoring what other people say. And that's a pretty damn good quality."
"And I'm sorry that I forced you to pretend to be my boyfriend, but they just don't believe a word I say anymore. I wish I could be more like Charlee. Even though she's the younger twin she still manages to stay calm and collected around other."
"Don't wish to be like others June. Otherwise you wouldn't be you." June looked up to me with her big green eyes shining with tears. She sniffed and wiped her tears with her sleeve.
"I think I should just go now, Frankie. I think I can convince mum to pick me up earlier. I can just say that I feel ill." June said reaching for the disabled toilet door. I quickly locked it and spun her around.
"If you think I'm going to let my girlfriend walk away with tears in her eyes then you're bloody wrong, June."
"Girlfriend?"
"Of course. I'm not gonna go embarrass you anymore by telling everyone we're not dating. I'm not giving them the satisfaction of letting them laugh."
"You'd really do that, Frankie?"
"Only for you June." I said as I pressed my lips against her forehead, before immediately regretting my actions.
Stupid, stupid, stupid Frankie! What do you think you're doing?!
I helped her calm down a bit before telling her that we should probably get out of the disabled toilets before people start to suggest things.
"Bye boyfriend!" She said laughing as she exited the toilet.
"By girlfriend." I said smiling as I watched her walk down the corridors.
"What do you think you're doing?!" I think a bit of piss came out when I heard Charlee Freebody hiss in my ear and push me back into the disabled toilets with her.
Two of the Freebody girls in the disabled toilets, in a matter of seconds? Remind me to use these toilets more often.
"What do you mean what am I doing? You're the one that pushed me into the toilets! What would the people outside think?!" I said raising my brow at her. "What would my girlfriend think?"
"That's exactly I mean, Frankie. This. Pretending to be her boyfriend. She's going to start thinking it's real."
"Charlee, I really think you should just leave me and her alone."
"Frankie Tamsem, you are going to be the death of me." Charlee said in a furious tone poking a finger into my chest.
"Chill. It's just a faze Charls. No need to get so stressed out." I exclaimed stretching my arms.
"That's what I'm worried about. It's not a faze. It's like you've put her under some god forsaken spell that's made her like this. If it was a faze it would have ended years ago. This has been going on for nine years. Nearly a decade of her life dedicated to you. And don't call me that."
"What? Charls? It suits you."
"Frankie, you don't even deserve to say my name after what you did with my sister. Do you know embarrassing this will be for her when she looks back at this moment?"
"Charlee? Ever thought that I don't care."
"This is the reason. This is the reason why I don't want her to be so obsessed with you. This is the reason Jourdan broke up with you. It wouldn't matter if she was obsessed with a nice person but it's you. Frankie fucking Tamsem! I'm leaving, I don't know why I thought I could talk with you and try and convince you." Charlee shoved open the door angrily and stalked off.
"I'll have you know that what happened with me and Jourdan was a mutual agreement!" I called out from inside the toilet.

I found Harri, Ashby and Caden sitting behind the school building, with the absence of all the girls.
"Frankie! I was wondering when you'd show up." Harri said standing up. I went and pushed him over.
"What the fuck was that, Harri?!"
"It was just a laugh, Frankie. Calm down. You do it all the time."
"That wasn't funny, that was just cruel, Harri."
"Oh come on, Frankie! Don't tell me you're actually going to take sides with her after years of taking the mic out of her."
"Just back off from me and her, Harri." I said turning around and beginning to walk off.
"You're just as pathetic as her then, Frankie!" I heard him call from behind. I turned around and delivered a good old punch to the eye.
"Frankie Tamsem! Principle's office immediately!" I heard a shout as I saw teachers run to help Harri who was moaning in pain.
Dickhead.

"Frankie! How could you let this happen?!" Maya walked round to where I was sitting outside of the principle's office and took seat next to me.
I shrugged my shoulders pathetically.
"Oh Frankie! I really wish you didn't get yourself into these things. I can't believe it was with Harri as well! He's been your best mate for years. What was it about this time?"
"June."
"Oh Frankie, I-"
"Frankie! What do you think you're doing getting in trouble on the second day!" I looked up cautiously to see my mum looking at me with a look I don't like to look at. Do you think I've put in enough "looks"?
After many threats about how she'll move the entire family away if my behaviour continues (the usual and harmless threat she gives when she's annoyed with me), she told me I was grounded for a week.
And to be honest, it didn't bother me because I didn't feel like going out with the lads, at least not with Harri.

"Frankie?" A soft voice came through and I looked up immediately.
The light coming from my door was blocked like a solar eclipse shutting off the sun. The uncertain smell of perfume wafted into my room.
That was some simile shit right there.
Charlee was stood in my doorway with a pained expression on her face as she saw me sitting on my bed.
"What are you doing here, Charlee? My mum's grounded me because I got into a bit of trouble at lunch. How did you even ge-"
"Your mum happens to like me." She replied, cutting me off. I nodded understanding immediately.
Mum never could stay mad at someone for too long although she'll keep the punishment going she'll probably do something to make it up to me, like buy me something. I guess I was lucky in that way.
"Thank you, Frankie." Charlee said looking into space or more accurately, my floorboards.
"For what?" I asked, confused and taking my eyes off of my phone.
"For doing what you did to Harri. I know I probably shouldn't be supporting you in what you did but... it was a really nice mean thing of you to do."
"A nice mean thing? I didn't think that was possible." I said smiling at Charlee.
She scoffed at me. "Of course, you would change the atmosphere of me thanking you."
I chuckled.
"Well, it's good to know that the guy June likes has a good side, even if it is pretty rare." Charlee said smiling back at me now - something that I wasn't used to.
"I'll have you know that all of my sides are my good sides. Except I do think I look better when I face the right in photos." I muttered the last line to myself trying to think. Or maybe it was my left side that was nicer. I'd have to check later.
"Whatever helps you sleep at night, Frankie." I resisted the urge to tell her what did help me sleep at night and instead bit my tongue and smiled.
"Well, I better get going." Charlee said awkwardly, swinging one of her legs.
"Yeah, I guess." I said unsure of what else to say.
"Thanks again, Frankie."
"You can stop thanking me now, Charls, it's starting to get a bit weird for me."
Charlee rolled her eyes and walked away calling out, "And don't call me that!"
"Sure thing, Charls!"
