thirty-two
"thank god it's the weekend," tyler muttered, throwing his backpack into the back seat of josh's car.
"long week?"
"you have no idea."
"well, lucky for you, we're going out to eat tonight."
"we are?!" tyler asked excitedly, squirming in his seat.
"yeah, but we have to take you to change first."
"change? why?"
"we're going somewhere fancy."
"ooooh," tyler coed, watching the houses they drove past. "how fancy?"
"just wear something you feel pretty in."
"i feel pretty in everything," tyler pointed out, making the older laugh.
"you are pretty in everything."
✨🌸✨
josh stared at the boy in awe the second he walked out the front door. tyler looked stunning, jaw-dropping. he looked a thousand times prettier than any boy josh had ever been with before. he was wearing a tight, black dress that showed off an excessive amount of skin, but josh was okay with it. the more people stared, the more he could prove that tyler was his and his only. the brunette was wearing black stilettos and held a shiny clutch in his left hand.
(IT'S CUTE OKAY?!?!?)
"you look amazing," josh blurted out the second tyler opened up the passenger door. the boy blushed, carefully sliding onto the leather seat.
"thank you."
"god, baby, i don't know if i'll be able to drive. i can't take my eyes off you."
"stoooop!" tyler whined, letting himself giggle. "i'm hungry!"
"okay, okay," josh smiled and finally drove off.
they spent the car ride singing along to the radio, tyler being way more into it that josh was. he was holding a pretend microphone and had his eyes shut tight as if he was lost in his own world. josh, however, was softly singing along and tapping his fingers against the steering wheel. he'd much rather listen to tyler than hear himself.
"we're here," josh spoke up, interrupting the chorus of tyler's new favorite song by billie eilish.
the brunette was annoyed that he was cut off, but perked up when he realized he was going to be eating soon. he quickly hopped out of josh's car and met the man halfway to the door. tyler intertwined his arm with josh's. he clung close to the man, as if to say "i'm with him so don't even try." josh grinned, feeling the smaller's arm around his tattooed one.
"reservations for dun," josh spoke to the lady that greeted them.
"ah, mr. and mr. dun? right this way," the blonde smiled, leading the two to their table. tyler wanted to correct her, but kinda liked to think he would be married to josh someday. why not pretend?
she led them to a booth, setting menus in front of them. "my name is jenna and i'll be your waitress today. can i start you off with drinks?"
"i'll have a coke," josh spoke first.
"me too."
"two cokes, coming right up. also, i love your dress!"
tyler quickly glanced down at himself and back up at the waitress. "thanks!" he smiled. he felt honored to be complimented by such a pretty girl.
she nodded and left the two of them alone.
"she said my dress is pretty!" tyler grinned, scanning over the menu.
"it is, baby. you look beautiful in it."
"thank you, josh."
"just stating the truth."
the two fell into a comfortable silence as they pondered over what to get. tyler ended up getting a plate of french toast since breakfast foods were his favorite. josh ordered some type of fancy fish tyler couldn't even begin to try and pronounce.
"french toast is better," he teased after jenna had taken their orders.
"maybe to you."
"to everyone. who would want fish over french toast? that's just wrong."
josh smiled and reached his arms across the table, his palms turned upward for tyler. the brunette happily placed his hands in josh's, finding comfort in such a small interaction.
"i love you," he reminded Josh.
"i love you too."
"i love you more, though."
"nah, i don't think so," josh grinned. he softly ran his thumbs over the backs of tyler's hands, unknowingly giving the boy goosebumps.
"we love each other the same," tyler decided, knowing he wasn't going to win this little argument.
"that's right, but i think i may just love you a tiny bit more."
"why do you think that?"
"well..." josh trailed off, reaching into his pocket. he pulled out a square shaped silver box and set it on the wooden table. tyler eagerly picked it up and opened it, as if he were a little kid on christmas. he gasped, eyes widening at the sight of the golden necklace in the box. it had a golden rose attached to a golden chain, but the petals of the rose were bright red.
"holy, josh... this is beautiful! you didn't have-"
"a beautiful necklace for my beautiful boy," josh cut him off, flashing him a big grin.
"gosh, i love you. thank you so much!"
tyler put it on himself with ease, not needing josh's help. the red and gold necklace contrasted nicely with his tan skin, and his dress was cut low enough to show his necklace off for everyone to see.
"i'm glad you like it."
"no, i love it!" tyler grinned, rolling the metal rose in between his fingers. he already knew he was going to develop a habit of messing around with it.
"more than you love me?" josh teased, watching his boyfriend with literal heart eyes.
"no, of course not. i could never love anything more than i love you."
end.
