Episode 1 The Testing Ground

Home to office & office to home is the mundane boring life of Rick for years but time has come when his fortunes are going to change. For better or worse only time will tell.

His eyes fell on a newspaper ad.

Are you frustrated by your daily mundane work routine? Do you want a job filled with adventures and thrill? If your answer is yes then come and join our organization. Face the dangers every day and live a life filled with adventures. Call now.

He didn't waste a minute after seeing this. Picks up his phone and dials in but the boringness was not tired enough to leave him now. The phone cuts after many beeps with no answer. But he's not ready to accept defeat yet.

He dials again. No answer. 4th-time 7th time. As the count of calls kept going up the hopes kept going down. With obvious desperation on his face after the 9th call, he lets the phone take a rest. He looks at the clock showing 11.30 pm. "Might be sleeping," he says and goes to the kitchen.

The double door fridge is left with only one thing, a packet of bread. The bread would be at least 1 month old, from the time his mother last came. His mind slips into the memory of mom's last visit.

"You really don't care about yourself," she says taking rotten and expired food items out of the fridge. "You have a decent job, the salary is also nice and this house is also big enough. Why don't you get married, son?"

"Mom, I'm already so tense in my life right now, I can't take anymore," he says from the kitchen making the best dish he has learned: Omelettes.

"What is your problem exactly, someday return filing, someday audit the pressure of work stays the same, you have been giving the excuse of pressure all the time."

He keeps his lips sealed as always.

"I brought some fruit, milk and bread packets that I'm putting here. Do finish them in due time. Don't leave these too like the last time."

"Okay, Mom I'll keep that in mind."

"What are you cooking. It's taking forever, let me get it done." She gets up and goes into the kitchen.

The memory of his mom lightens up his face with a smile. "You'll be glad to see this mom. I've finished everything this time and today's the turn of this last packet of bread"

After rummaging in shelves of the kitchen, he finally takes out an old bottle of jam with a rusty cap. He cleans a plate and walks back into the bedroom.

He checks the phone to only find desperations going up. He puts the bread on a plate and tries to open the cap of jam. No luck here too. He takes a knife out of the drawer and puts it around the cap.

His phone rings. The cap opens up. In the hurry to get the call he forgets to close the cap; jam drops all over the phone. The ring coming from the phone gets muted. "Oh, shit what did I do?"

He puts the bottle aside. Wipes the phone with his bare hands. "Hello hello can you hear me? I have seen your newspaper ad. I'm very eager to join. What do I need to do next, hello can you hear me?"

Nothing comes out of the jammed speaker. "Shit! looks like I lost the chance here."

10:AM Sharp 3, Falcon Road. Don't be late. A message pops up on his phone. "Oh my god really?" "wow...here comes my turn," he says looking at his mirage in the balcony's window. OK, he sends in reply.

"And now it's your turn, my friend," he says looking at the bread on the plate. He leans on the bed after finishing up his food but the sleep is long gone.

"What is it, is it a job of a spy, an undercover agent, or mafia, or will they put me in an amusement park...I mean there can be types of adventurous rides and if made a little complex then would be thrilling too. No, it can't be that bad." He thinks out loud.

"Oh what am I doing, I should be sleeping now, I have to get up early too. First I'll get my phone repaired else there can be many problems."

He puts in an alarm for 6'o clock and closes his eyes.

It's already eight when Rick wakes up in the morning. He rushes to the bathroom to get fresh and then puts on the perfect dress for an awesome interview: a white shirt, black trousers and a blazer.

"Do only people doing jobs wake up this early?" he says, looking at the closed shutter of the mobile shop. "I'll have to go like this only I think," he says, taking out his phone.

He puts on the address on the Uber to get a cab but no luck. "Why does tech fail in times of need," he curses as it shows no cars available nearby.

After a while, he manages to get one but worry takes him over as he sees 9.45 on his phone. Shit!! I would be late on my very first day, cursing he gets in the cab.

--------------------------

Near Falcon Road:

"Where the hell is this guy?" says Laura, taking the phone away from her ears.

She takes a look at the road through the rearview mirror of her car, parked near the falcon road.

"Oh Reid, what joker you've hired," she says and dials Reid on the phone.

"Hello, Reid, your guy hasn't shown up till now."

"Don't worry, he'll show up, it's his first day," Reid says calmly.

"Looks like the last one too." She hangs up.

As the clock ticks 10. Laura gets out of her car and goes straight into a building. She chips in 7th Floor in the lift. As the lift door opens, she takes the gun out from behind and stands near a room's gate.

A bullet on the lock and then a kick on the door makes the door open wide.

Two men inside the room altered by gunshot run towards the door.

She gets in, shoots the man standing in left, in his legs. A man in the right gets the bullets in his shoulder.

One comes running straight and dives on her. Her gun falls on the floor. She molds his both hands towards his knee as if the hands had no bones. She kicks in his belly, he falls behind on a room's gate, breaking it into pieces.

Another one comes out of the room. With a flying kick, she dusts him on the floor.

She goes into the room, and takes a man by his neck, puts punches on his face. "I need Mr. Frederick's file or I will throw you out of that window." Molding his face towards the big window on the balcony.

"It's on the 2nd self, green cover." He points towards a closet. She takes the file out.

The wounded men block the exit.

She throws a bomb on the floor. "It'll take 10 min to get me out of its range." Showing the remote of the bomb to them she says.

"If anyone follows me or tries to pull off any stunt, it'll be his last stunt." She looks into their eyes instigating fear. They all move to the side.

Sitting in her car she calls. "Reid the job is done but your guy didn't show up."

"Oh, might be stuck in traffic, you know traffic these days," Reid says.

"If he shows up now, I'll be the one to put bullets in his head," she says furiously.

A man appears to be checking out the building, as she looks in the rear-view mirror. "He's here I guess..I'll call you later." She hangs up and gets out of the car. "Hey, you."

"The address seems to be right but there's no board or something." Rick talks to himself, scanning the building.

"Hello, you, come here." she waves to him.

"Hello Ma'am, are you having car trouble?"

"I'm not an expert on cars but I'd certainly give it a try if a beautiful girl like you ask," he says in a gentle tone.

"Talk more bullshit and I'll put an end to all your expertise. Who comes this late on the first day?"

"Oh, actually i'm new to this area, won't happen again as I've understood how to come here?"

"You will come again? Here? I think I have something to put some senses in your head." She looks for the gun in her pocket. Then she goes to look for it in the car.

"What happened Ma'am? Have you lost something?" he comes following her.

She looks into the car. Oh no I left in that room, she recalls.

"Yes, I've left my gun on the 7th floor, left room of that building." She points towards it. "You have 5 minutes to retrieve it, otherwise." She looks at her smartwatch.

"Otherwise what?" he asks.

"The bomb will explode and you'll be blown up into pieces."

"Bomb will explode? Is that a test?" he asks in disbelief.

"4 Minutes and 30 seconds now."

He runs straight into the building. "O shiiit," he says looking at the elevator pan that says: On 25th floor. He runs through the entire staircase.

"She said left, or right?...right, I think," he says confused on reaching the 7th floor.

Inside the right room, two boys are watching TV, sitting on a sofa.

Tat- tat an Inspector knocks the door on TV. "Break the door," says The Commissioner standing behind him. Inspector takes a few steps back.

Rick goes running and hits the door with his shoulders. The door opens there and on TV at the same time.

"Oh! wrong room," Rick whispers to himself, noticing the boys still lost in TV.

He gets out and closes the door without making a sound.

He then goes to the left room. All the people there standing still like they've been frozen.

He takes the gun and runs downwards. At the main gate of the building, he stops to catch up with breathing.

💥Boom! The bomb explodes. Shards of glass and pieces of concrete rained upon Rick, who was panting near the entrance of the building.

He runs hurriedly to Laura. "Was that really a test?" Pointing towards the 7th floor he says panting heavily.

"We use real bombs in tests too," she says taking the gun from him and gets into her car.

"One second, can you tell me I am selected or not?" he asks.

"HR will let you know," making a face she says and speeds away.

"Oh god! if the interview is so thrilling, what does the job look like." Taking deep breaths, he walks.
